Talia Xerist in Dead Girl Walking, Veronica breaks into JDs house by coming in through the window. In this song, when JD says"sorry for coming in through the window, DREADFUL etiquette, I know," he's sort of making fun at the fact that's the way Veronica broke into his house
Whenever JD says: "Sorry for coming in through the window dreadful etiquette I know" it makes me entertain the idea that JD is just really bitter about Veronica coming in through his window and thats why he murdered everyone
I thought the way it was in the movie was a little more disturbing. Veronica comes home and her parents confront her about her depression and suicidal thoughts, then they tell her that JD left a note he wanted her to read. She opens it and (in her handwriting) it says "Recognize the handwriting?".
"Veronica's gotta be trippin' on shrooms now, thinking that she can hide." I think what's scariest about this line is that Veronica knows that her sins have caught up with her. She's going to pay for what she's done, and she's desperate to hide, but she can't. The only way to pay is to face JD, who basically started all of this.
isn't veronica's fault though? Like the only reason people are dying in this musical is because she wanted to be popular to "save herself from the bullies" or at least that's what I understand in the song beautiful. if She didn't become part of the heathers then the whole killing murder, betray your best friend thing wouldn't happen right?
@@marysworld9760 let's be honest here WHEN WE BOTH SAW THIS MUSICAL NEITHER ME OR YOU OR EVEN VERONICA KNEW SHE WAS GONNA KILL PEOPLE. I'm pretty sure every single time she killed someone it was by accident. And on top of that the person she killed WAS A HEATHER and she didn't even WANT to kill her. HELL the innocent girl was just gonna spit in her cup
"Come join Heather in Hell" Is what gives me chills. Its creepy and is finally addressing how severe what shes done and caused. Shes ruined lives and she can hide it all she wants but her victims know and she can't write that away.
The people killed were really JD's fault, not really Veronica's. I think that line was meant to show that Veronica blames herself for their deaths because JD made her feel like it was partially her doing.
Nealon Freire JD is very manipulative to Veronica That's why he got her to kill And he lied and said something me thing about fake guns but he lied to Veronica so she shot ram or Kurt
Is no one going to talk about that violin note when JD Climbs in the window? I mean, the "knock knock" is creepy, but that chord really gives me chills.
Well let's see. During the musical, Veronica ended up betraying her best friend to join a mythic bitch, ended up dating a whackjob, and inadvertently caused several deaths. So...no, it wasn't.
important lines: - now you're truly a heather - come join heather in hell - he's got your handwriting down cold - veronica's running on running on fumes now - he got in - knOCK KNOCK
I just realized that there’s another layer to her fearing him, it shows that he’s been practicing her handwriting and has nailed it so much that it fools her parents. Meaning that he can write a suicide note for her...
I mean, Meant to Be Yours is basically a whole song where JD can’t decide whether he wants Veronica to join him in his evil plan or to kill her as well.
I always thought that, since most adults in this story are unaware of how teens feel (The teacher basically turns the suicides of three students into a public show, Ram and Kurt's dads really didn't know if their children were gay, etc) Veronica's mom is just acting as if she knew what was happenning to her daughter to minimize her problems
Rocío Ferrari honestly I always saw it as her mom did have depression or suicidal thoughts at some point, and genuinely wanted to help, but Veronica is right-her mom probably was not dating a homicidal maniac, and so she can’t relate to the situation Veronica is in. Additionally, Veronica was not actually suicidal. In DGW Reprise she says that she deserves to die for her actions, but that doesn’t mean she actually wants to die. All evidence of her suicidal thoughts were faked by JD (“he’s got your handwriting down cold”) so her mom really can’t help her out.
I view it as her mom not knowing how serious it is, and really meaning “I know how it can feel like everything is a matter of life and death, I use to be dramatic too!”
Honestly, I love Heathers for being such good social commentary on the toxic social hierarchy of high school, as well as on society's twisted way of glorifying suicide and such while simultaneously berating those who actually experience mental health problems.
I went to a high school with a lot of lower-class families students. Mostly Hispanic and Filipino so culture may have been part of the reason. Everyone treated everyone like normal civilized people. I never understood the social hierarchy f high school that people talk about.
I love it for it's commentary on the "nerd mindset" that blames everything wrong with him on society and the people around him not releasing they are also affected by the same society and by that building his mentality that life is war and that he's a victim and everyone else is the assailant. Saying to show compassion to the strong just like they should to the weak.
How could you all be so Evil? I've seen Plenty of horrible things on RU-vid, Victim blaming included, But "ALL PEOPLE WHO COMMIT SUICIDE WEAK!1!!1!1" is just... Wow. I guess i can't do anything about it other Pray to god You suffer and victims of sucidal thoughts don't.
I love how absolutely raw Barrett Wilbert Weed sounds in this song. She sounds like she genuinely is being haunted by what Veronica has done. She sounds like she isn't acting. It gives me chills!
awkwardcupcake girl DUEL BEFORE THE SUN IS IN THE SKY pick a place to die, where its high and dry... Yet the sun is either not or hardly up whenever someone dies or tries to commit suicide
I hate how I NEVER EVEN REALIZED it’s the SAME EXACT MELODY I- “Veronica’s running on, running on fumes now-“ “Veronica, open the, open the door please-“
my favorite part is "Veronica’s running on, running on fumes now Veronica’s totally fried Veronica’s gotta be trippin’ on ‘shrooms now, Thinking that she can hide Veronica’s done for, there’s no doubt now, Notify next of kin! Veronica’s trying to keep him out now Too late! He got in!" It's to me the best part of the song
Imagine when Veronica is like ok her thirties relaying some childhood moments back to her parents, perhaps her trouble with men or something. Mum "Well that guy you dated in high school, what was his name? Jason Dean, he was nice" Veronica, "No, he was a serial killer" (nonchalantly said) Mom, "Come Veronica, he wasn't that bad". "Seriously mom, he killed people, and he tried to kill me, but when he couldn't he committed suicide because he was obsessive".
I always heard that part as the, “Veronica’s running on, running on fumes now, Veronica’s totally fried-“ part of the song... and I would sing that in my head. It has taken me a year and a half to see that that exact part of the song is exactly the same as the, “Veronica, open the, open the door please-“ part of Meant To Be Yours. Thank you for making me realize this.
The dramatic bass after "He even showed us your copy of Moby Dick" really does a good job of showing that drop in your stomach when you realise JD's plan and that he is coming
@@fangurks Don't quote me on this, but I believe shrooms are mushrooms that have the same affect as psychedelics, which are drugs that can make you hallucinate.
I think when Heather Chandler says “He’s got your hand writing down cold” and when they say “You have earned that red scrunchie” has a huge message in it. Like the fact is that Veronica is thought to about to be killed by JD, who is making look like suicide just like Heather. When Heather says “He’s got your hand writing down cold” it seems like Veronica writing Heather’s suicide note. But also the fact that Veronica is “truly a Heather” makes it seem like it’s indicating that Veronica has become what she hated in the beginning.
I love how in the beginning of this song she realizes how many lives she ruins. Veronica starts to go back to her old self. She starts to care about Martha and it's so sweet.
Oh my god Veronica's mom sounds so much like Ms. Fleming. And like, I know it's because they're the same person, but like she's not even trying to do a different voice
Corrine Stevens imo she sounds different enough in the scene where the Heathers are playing croquette at Veronica's house, but for some reason she sounds exactly like Ms. Fleming here
Keghan Tiernan Sometimes this thing happens where I'm scrolling through comments on my phone and accidentally click on a comment, which forces me to reply. This is one of those times. There's no option to click out and cancel the reply, so I usually write a letter, post it and then delete it.
1:08 I can just imagine Veronica looking into a camera like she’s on The Office.. also is nobody gonna talk about how heather chandler says “he’s got your handwriting down cold”?????
M: Try me! I've experienced EVERYTHING you're going through right now. V: Well, my best friend just attempted suicide because I was almost raped by the guy she liked... M: Well, honey... I- V: and then I killed him... M: *mouth drops open* ... V: And, did I tell you I killed my other best friend too? M: ... V: Oh, and my boyfriend's trying to blow up the school. I think he's going to break into our house school too. Got to run! M: HONEY! That's no big deal! It's just a part of being a teenager, that's all. It'll all be over as soon as you graduate high school. We've all been through that!
The part were thaey go "he got in" reminds of a kids show called codename kids next door. Their was this one group of kids called like the friendly neighbours or something. They sounded just like that. So creepy
The parts that give me chills are: "Guess who's right down the block" "Guess who's climbing the stairs" "Guess who's picking your lock" "Too late go say your prayers" "Veronica's trying to keep him out now" "Too late. He got in" "Knock knock" If you read these like a normal book they're creepy as hell.
The huge contrast in tone between "Yo Girl" and "Meant to be Yours" is completely horrifying. Since Heather C., Kurt, and Ram are singing this one, it's haunting and cold. It emphasizes Veronica's guilt, fear and horror at what she's done. However, J.D.'s solo is loud and bouncy and punchy, you feel like it's a party. Yet, the lyrics are giving off that edgy, terrifying vibe of a physcopath. These two songs perfectly describe how both characters feel at the moment. They are so well done, probably the best in the soundtrack.
Finally a character who never started as a bish (heather m started as a bish and later turned nicer, while Martha was just that sweet girl who didn't deserve hate)
Okay but can we talk about how they gave this song and "Meant To Be Yours" the same background music.....it makes it so much more intense and it's a cool detail
It's cool how the melody in the electric piano at the very beginning over Duke's lines, which they also sing in the "Veronica's running on, running on fumes now, Veronica's totally fried..." section, shows up way back in Our Love is God in the instrumental section right after JD shoots Ram and is hunting down Kurt... it's like a musical representation of JD at his most psychopathic and violent.
"Sorry for coming in through the window, dreadful etiquette, I know!" My Mom: "Well that was rude!" Me: * Looks at her a bit spooked, (I have earbuds in) * Me: *Awkward pause* "Oh you were talking about the washing machine beeping"
1:25 I picture the spirits of h.Chandler and the jocks expressing expectancy and joy at the idea of veronica hanging herself, as if they were ready to get their hands on her as soon as she gets to the other side.
I love Ryan's voice can go from angelic to totally demonic and the music in the background really brings out the insanity in his character love it so much
that “..everything?” is so soft but terrified that it seems like a cry for help. like she wants her parents to know about everything she did so she can be done with the nightmare
I feel like this is one of the best Heathers songs. Veronica sounds truly scared, and Heather C., Kurt and Ram's parts send chills down my spine. It's beautiful. Also J.D. is there, and I'll listen to him breaking in for hours on end
"Just another geek trying to imitate the popular people, and failing miserably." That quote hit me fucking HARD. Why? Because, if Martha was copying the cool folks by trying to kill herself, it really gives an insider about the lives of those types of people. To summarize what i'm trying to say, if committing suicide is something the popular kids are accustomed to seeing between each other- or at least something that happens- then it really shows how stressful their lives must be. You know, trying to maintain their image while dealing with their own troubles, often without support. That is all.
