It was okay considering qll the c0ntext but I was SUPER disappointed that so many returning Yo-Kai no longer evolve or fuse. Yo-Kai like Manjimutt, Tattletell, Noway, Hungramps, Walkappa, Dimmy and more remain stuck as unimpressive low Ranks.
Glad to finally see a video on this! It's my favorite Yo-kai Watch game! Believe me, The Cutting Room Floor only has a fraction of the pre-release history. There is so much stuff not on it that implies interesting things
I really liked the old style of yokai watch. Shadowside personally feels a bit edgy with the yo kai designs and the tribe mechanism being changed to simalar things in similar tribes kinda feels bad, my main intrigue of tribes was that it was each tribe felt unique as a talking man dog is in the same tribe as a Fat Thief Bird. Its trying too hard.
I love this series! It rekindled my love for this franchise. At this point, if they don’t translate or make a new game here in the states, Im gonna get a 3ds and play these games, they are just to great to pass up
I, now having played all the YKW games, can rightfully say: “Nate would absolutely CRUSH most fictional characters due to Hinozall(he has the powers of a writer) and Emma’s various forms(multiple entities on the same power level as God)
You know, I get that they probably just didn’t wanna disturb the neat ribbon that the second game ended on, but this feels like it could’ve been a great way to bring Nathaniel back into the spotlight as a playable character, and they could’ve done some neat stuff with him getting to not only see Nate again, but also meet his great granddaughter
i just got back into my yo kai watch phase and got this recommended lol, i liked the video a lot! i actually ordered 4 a bit ago singe i was learning japanese anyway, and i enjoyed it...although then i got stuck and am planning on playing it more today finally skhskssskshsj
The white whale stuck perpetually within a state of uncertainty whether it has localisation potential or not. Either way it's a very interesting and fun take on the formula which takes some aspects to new and interesting locations, and others which I feel didn't work out perfectly, if only we got a new game to tighten up the loose aspects and make a best version of this kind of Yo-kai Watch game... Well only time will tell that's for sure... Either way, thank you so much for doing this wonderful retrospective, it's been great as a diehard fan to almost revisit these titles once more, and see just why it is I love these games so much. Keep up the fantastic work, and have a lovely day.
Months late to this, but I genuinely absolutely love yokai watch. It wasn’t Pokémon that got me into playing RPGs, it was this game, and I love it so much for that. I cannot tell you how much this series of games scratches the itch my brain has.
I feel like being the first game in the series to cut the majority of the yo kai from previous games kinda prevented this game from bringing people back in.
Have you heard about the Tweet from the CEO? He said they're working on the next installment, and that they're also looking into Yo-kai Watch 4 and the Academy spin-off localization.
@@Chrominize Hino said: "Today marks the 10th anniversary of Yo-kai Watch. Time sure flies. We’re steadily working on the next instalment which incorporates the flow of the series. There’s still some time before we can make an official announcement, but stay tuned!" Acording to GameHub article. Also, the focus of the new Level 5 vision project, am sure you're aware of it, is world-wide releases. All the new games that got announced will get released world-wide. Level 5 has made basically a statement 'we're back', and their slogan is "Level 5 go to the future". Also Level 5 will be present at the Tokyo Game show later this month with its vision project, maybe more trailers? I was wrong to state that Hino himself said anything about localization, I apologize for the confusion on my part. However, given the fact that vision project (or the way the company wants to move forward) is about world-wide releases. And the fact that Hino has confirmed next Yo-kai watch game is in the works. It would be weird to get the 5th game in the West without the previous titles being localized first. So, although localization of these titles is still a speculation, I believe it stands on a solid logical ground given the vision project. Don't you think? 😊
Level 5 vision is level 5's version of the Nintendo Direct, but localizing games will a new standard for them. The new game sounds more like it'll be part of a sequel series or a reboot based on what we've heard. Honestly it's a matter of wait and see if Level 5 will bother to localize the old games
@@Diligentchi No, according to their website, and even their live stream video, it's how they want to move the company into the future. It's literally a showcase of their "vision" of how they want to run things from this point forward. It has nothing to do with news announcements or anything simmilar to it. And what have you heard? The only thing I've heard from level 5 were the words "next installment". Even if it's Yo-kai watch 2 or 3 remastered for the switch, that's still awesome, no? I would still be very excited for that. And then yet again, as we both know they want to make localizing games the new standard. So with this it would also be weird to get YW2 or YW3 and not YW1 for the Switch which has already released but wasn't localized.
Level 5 Vision has existed for years and was and always will be a place in where they announce new games The wording give more vibes of a sequel series and if you still don't believe it. Then the author of the YKW manga himself said an unannounced manga to be part of a "new ykw series" which most likely includes the new game
I really hope yokai watch 4 gets localized, because then I'd actually understand the language and probably have a great time with it, because not understanding what the characters are saying in this franchise can really remove some of the charm of this franchise. Not all of the charm, but I'd really like to have all of the charm. Hope i expressed that correctly
I don't like that there was a stronger emphasis on super humanoid, 'badass' bishonen yokai characters later in this series life kicked off by Enma. None of them have even half the charm of the yokai designs from the first few games.
The only think i didn't like a about the new busters, is that after the first battle with sproing, the mode becomes very grindy because missions start to have a difference of 5 levels or more between them, and if you are playing alone you need to grind for 4 characters, but that last one was always a problem with buster, but is more noticeable in this one.
Yeah, that's definitely a thing, it's particularly rough in the middle of everything because you jump from missions that are in the low 20's, to one that's level 40.
Tbh I like shadows side version of whisperer he’s more bizarre looking like a character from Soul Eater which goes for all of the shadow Yokai because of their peculiar and unique designs
I wanna preface this by saying: Amazing video! A lot of fans I see talk about the Switch games seem to get a lot of info wrong, so I like that you actually have it pretty correct for the most part. I will admit, just because I mod and translate this game, I probably know or enjoy a lot more things than other people do, so I was a little disappointed it wasn't more in-depth, but that's okay. If you don't mind, I also have my own thoughts on the game: I actually really dislike the Yo-kai-exclusive Equipment. The Busters grind for Equipment I enjoyed because anyone can equip it, but then I get cool stuff like the Oni Smashers that I can only equip on Yo-kai I don't really have an interest in using. I'm also not a big fan of how Soul drops aren't at the very least guaranteed - It makes grinding for Yo-kai kind of upsetting because you may not even get one Soul the whole time. There's also a strange bug, on Switch, at least, where visually things get displayed incorrectly on menus... Like required materials to create/enhance Equipment, Crank-a-Kai reward pools... It's frustrating to the point my most reliable source for Equipment recipes is a spreadsheet... But overall, I really enjoy this game, a lot more than the 3DS games. I'm really happy they adopted a Busters-esque gameplay style and even evolved it going to the next game, Y School Heroes. It's a shame that dev hell resulted in story rewrites and cut content, but at the end of the day, the end product is still really good.
hi, i know i'm super late but i know some info in japan the reason we only have 6 playable watch users is because a lot of people hate Inaho (idk her name in english but she's the weeb one) back when YW3 was released, many also feel offended by how she "replaces" Katie and disliking her personality even tho i found she amusing myself, some feels like she shouldn't be in children media . A lot of japanese youtuber growing up with youkai watch like yukkuri setsumei said that the reason youkai watch franchise started to falling apart is because of Inaho . Some even have nightmare after hearing her voice during playthrough. But since she's still a part of YW franchise and level 5 knows some do enjoy Inaho, they do the best they could is to make her almost irrelevant to the main story but still there as support character . Jinpei (Y gakuen) going to have his own game so he's just a cameo in 4++, plus the Y gakuen is different and they don't use the watch like the rest so we can understand why he's not a playable watch user. surprisingly YW4 is being loved by a lot of big YW youtuber and gaining millions of views , but the game barely sell because of the YW blaster 2, Shadow side scared a lot of people, people in japan just stop caring about YW so yeah, i love the franchise, it have a lot of up and down but hopefully new game in the future can help revive it. They doing quite good job with adding new protagonist instead of yellow rat and little kid for 20+ years
oh and the dragon quest part, level 5 is actually behind 1 or 2 games from the franchise so maybe they use the past experience working on dragon quest to implement it to yw?
@@JackSucksAtCIipshmm, i’m not sure myself. But from her family name “Misora” alone it already means unempty sky or could means something else related to sci-fi . I’m not familiar to it
Was excited to see you announce this was coming up, and it was another fun watch. (Pun not intended) Also, this wasn't the first tie in to the Shadowside movie. Busters 2 had some Yo-Kai Circles that referenced the movie, and the version of Enma in that game used his Shadowside redesign. Thought it was neat.
Thanks for watching! And yeah, that's true. I brought up the Shadowside tie-in in the Busters 2 video, I didn't know about the Yo-kai Circles though, that's fun.
One thing I found odd about the game is it’s the first game where until halfway through the game, it doesn’t relate to the other games at all. YKW1 had nothing to relate to. YKW2 literally had ‘you lost your memories of the first game’ as the whole plot in the first half. YKW3 (nothing is coming to mind, but I know there is something). Until Hailey shows up, the game feels like it’s cut out 3 from the story across the games. Nate is in the YKW1/2 outfit (yes, I know that post game he can wear the YKW3 clothes, but that’s dubious). Nate is using the Model 1 watch, which doesn’t make sense given that at this point, he has the Dream. It’s (to my knowledge, IDK Japanese) the only game to not have some plot reason you loose all the previous game’s medals. It feels disconnected from the rest of the games.
This video convinced me to import the game (still hunting for a good price CIB). Overall, how accessible is this game for someone who does not know Japanese?
Still haven't played yokai watch 4 my self mainly because I can't read Japanese but if there is ever a englsih translation be it fan made or offical I'll definitely pick it up
5:55 That’s one thing I don’t get at all about 4. How was this supposed to bring people back into the series? The word Id use to describe Yo-Kai Watch, specifically in Japan during that time period is cluttered. There’s a lot going, a lot of different movies games and products being released and the last thing needed was this huge reboot adding more complicated features to the franchise. 4 was definitely where Yo-kai Watch had an identity crisis. Not knowing wether to be too much or too little to it’s fans. Very excited for the spin off reboot happening in the future. as i think a fresh start is exactly what the series needs right now
If yw 3 is a masterpieces then yw4 was it master disappointment for me. Alot of popular yokai got heavily nerfed by removing their evolution/ fusing. The story was a bit of a mess to meby trying to shove the two movies story together not well. And the frame rate of this game on the switch are horrible early game it get better in late game tho. But it did the best thing in the whole series by getting rid of terror time.
i was very disappointed on the medallium, i dont care what people think the amount of yokais were meant to be small, the others had 200 minimum. 110 yokais feels so small compared to the others, and the amount of yokais i had to battle were just the same. The game is genuinely fun, but dang they could have done more, maybe they didnt have enough budget :(
@@lubbo5261 yea but at the time of release it was that small, and even with ++ it still feels incredibly limited because they keep reusing the same yokai's
I've only seen the games up until 4. I still have a long way to go with the anime and honestly, I hope Level 5 doesn't do another time skip for the series. It feels unnecessary and over the top to me. The series was okay in the present timeline imo. I have no clue as to what's coming next for the series but I hope Level 5 is going to reboot the series if needed. I don't think I can handle quick time skips like these. Funny though, it's not the first time the company has done time skips for their IPs. Inazuma Eleven also did it. This is my opinion though, I don't know if others like this decision.
@@Chrominize you need head to their head office and make them do it, they making some furry detective gaym for switch and can't afford one translator for free rice
Love a video, but just a minor little thing I get why cutting yokai is a disappointment but honestly in 3 it feels a little bloated. so it’s understandable that they would cut some of them and well not all of them are gonna be winners anyways. (even though most of the designs are pretty good though.)
Idk man, could never stand this game, the complete change in art direction is a huge turnoff for me, and i do not like the fact that humans get to fight along Yokais. Also not a fan of the combat system, running around and stuff. 4 was the parting point for me, as it kinda lost its originality imo.
I’m making three YKW/Pokémon/Professor Layton crossover Fanganronpas to try and bring back some attention to the franchise. For the first, the YKW characters are Nate, Katie, and Buck, for the second, it’s a bunch of Nate/Katie/Buck/Hailey’s classmates, and for the final in the trilogy, the YKW characters in the cast are Hailey, Bear, Steve Jaws, Eddie, Amy, and Waitington.
I’ll admit, I still really love yokai watch 4. Its a great game - and a really good evolution from handheld to console. I think the gameplay is good - along with it just being pretty impressive in terms of a technical and graphical leap. better than pokemon obviously But its great
