+Minigun101 A lightsaber fight should never have been necessary. You have two massively powerful force users and Dooku says that the contest cannot be settled by their knowledge of the force but by a lightsaber battle. Why? Is the force not adequate enough but flinging laser swords is? A lightsaber fight makes it a physical contest, rather than a battle between light and dark force power. And as I already explained. Yoda is above that. His physical smallness prevents him from competing against much larger opponents, so he has to do the flip routines to compensate. So everything he says about physical strength not mattering does indeed matter a great deal in a lightsaber fight. There's a reason why Yoda never takes the time to teach Luke anything about lightsaber combat when he trains him. How it should've played out would've been an epic contest of force power. Both Yoda and Dooku would've been fighting with the force alone, rather than flinging laser swords simply because they're popular scenes in these movies. And the character of Yoda wouldn't contradict his own teachings and be reduced to video game antics.

It is about Jar Jar, about Jake Lloyd and Hayden, and about the absolutely horribly cringeworthy scenes concerning how much Anakin and Padme love each other. In short: It is not about the plot, it is about the execution.

***** Firstly, he's physical flaws is weakness so that's not really an argument for his favor. Secondly, i really doubt he focuses more than 50% of his force to power his physique. I know you said it in his defense but actually you underrated his force powers. Yoda has vast amount of force more than any jedi of his era (excluding Anakin potencially), so he really doesn't need 50% of it to enhance his physique. I think you got me wrong let me explain. I don't think Yoda has little force reserves. I have enough knowledge of the franchise to not state something so obviously wrong. I'm just saying that even compared to such a great force user like Yoda, Sidious still obviously outclassed him in it. He's just that much powerful.

That's kind of a problem when you have sequel movies that show Yoda and the Emperor alive. Obviously he couldn't kill Sidious because he died in Episode 6.

+Henry Chavez Yoda was around 900 years old when he died. He's been living for *900 years*. It's not like humans where after 20 years there's a big difference in what we can do and how our bodies work, Yoda would have had around the same physical capabilities in Attack of the Clones as he did in Empire. It's not like the Original Trilogy was set 100 years after the prequels, it was only 20 years. Yoda would have started losing his strength at around 700 years. Even before then it'd be silly for him to fight, it might make sense for when he was 100 or 200 years old when he still knew little of the force's power but anything after that is just another ridiculous decision made by Lucas so you can have Yoda jumping around in McDonald's commercials and to make him appeal more to kids so they can sell toys.

Oh, get over it, you nostalgia blinded manchild. Yoda was described as a great warrior and here he is fighting like one.

First of all, I'm 17, not exactly a man child (plus this part of the comment is an ad hominem irrelevant to the argument). In the film the Empire Strikes Back, (also generally regarded as the best film in the series, although beside the point) they initially make Yoda out to be this character of great strength and fighting ability, as expected by Luke Skywalker. However, upon revealing Yoda's character, Yoda is shown as a small feeble old man, incapable of engaging in physical combat. They did this to show that having strength and control of in force is something beyond the physical, "not this crude matter". This scene completely contradicts the intention of Yoda's character and the entire point of the force.

Jolly Leprechaun Except here's the thing. The Jedi have always been warriors. They were the Jedi KNIGHTS from the first. As a Jedi Master, yes. Yoda is a great warrior. His line: "Wars not make one great", I read as Yoda's EXPERIENCES talking-- personal experiences. That he was once a great warrior and fought in the Clone Wars, and it was through /that/ that he gained the wisdom to acknowledge that it is not wars or battle prowess that make you great. It is through being humbled, and making mistakes we attain wisdom, afterall. Sorry that was a tangent. Point being: The Jedi Knights are KNIGHTS. They are warriors. Philosophers too, yes, in much the same way samurai are often portrayed in popular media, but warriors. As a Jedi Master, Yoda would have been a formidable warrior. Furthermore, Obi-Wan Kenobi himself states in ANH that the Lightsaber is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. As a Jedi himself, should Yoda not be familiar with the use of a "Jedi's weapon"?

It's a long quotation, but THIS is, to me, the defining moment of Yoda's character. It's where he becomes the wise mentor of the Original Trilogy. What people who are hung up on the OT seem to miss is that the wise mentor was not always so wise. They teach lessons that they themselves have learned through experience. They've made mistakes. For me, Yoda's portrayal in the Prequel Trilogy, is an act of showing how he BECOMES the character he is in the Original Trilogy. He doesn't have to start there.

"There was no depth to the character" which character? since you put "character" without an "s" and if you do mean "characters" watch episode III (espically the duel on Mustafar) then come back bitching. +Jason Pak an old butthurt fan. they fail to realise the emotion from the duel between obiwan and anakin. anakin has full hate and only sees the death of his master in his eyes, while obiwan saddened by what he has to do resists fighting anakin and keeps steping and moving back during the fight cause he can't put himself to do a blow on anakin until the end. OT fans refuse to notice emotion when they fail to realise that trilogy was made in a time where the story was the main focus and today it is both the fight scenes and the story but it wasn't perfected in the prequels

Obi vs Anakin was almost the only thing emotional in the prequels. I never saw any debt of Darth Maul for example. He had almost no dialouge either. People just like him because he looked cool. And as well, didn't Anakin spend almost the whole second movie bitching about Obi wan? And didn't Obi do the same? If we would have seen more friendship it would have been more emotional. But no, we are only told that they are friends. Anakin and Obi standing in the elevator in the second movie talking like friends, but everything shown after that showed the opposite.

+Dawn Of The Revolution (DTR) as George Lucas said himself: "it isn't all about spaceships." Star Wars was before about the characters, how the friendships grew between Han, Luke and Leia for example. It was about Luke and Darth Vader, the bond between a father and a son. It was an emotional story. Other stuff was more like elements to make the story very interesting and impressive. And the prequels should have emotions as well. Well, there are some emotions l guess. But it wasn't enough, CGI just compensated that. The prequels was much about the friendship between Anakin and Obi Wan, and how it ended. It was also about the relation between Anakin and Padmé. It was a sad story about a great man becoming evil. But you say it isn't all about emotions? No, not after the prequels. By the way, the jedi values emotions and feelings above almost everything else.
