I don't need to buy a laptop, bought the one I wanted at the end of 2021, but I still watch all your videos to stay updated on that's coming out and because I enjoy tech reviews. Love your videos man, they are short and precice, thanks for valuing our time Josh!
to me, my priority is performance, while staying cool to touch, battery life & fan noise come in second place. where I live is a noisy city, I work from home, and everywhere I go there is a power outlet.
Thanks for the objective review Josh. We have a Windows laptop, complete with fan noise, that does a very good job (ASUS VivoBook 15). My wife uses it these days because she prefers Windows, and I use my M2 MBA 13 because I now prefer macOS and the Apple hardware.
@@msp5138 The VivoBook S15 has a discrete GPU and when playing games the fans really ramps up. On the bright side, at least it can play games at modest settings.
completely agree about the sharp edges on some of the laptops out there. there are a few I would love but I have found them very uncomfortable in the past.
This laptop is very similar to the ‘best kept secret’ laptop of last year: the Yoga 7 14” gen 7 with the clever but almost unobtainable AMD 6800U. This CPU switches intelligently up to 28W and has an awesome iGPU for its class. The result is not only better performance than an Intel 12th gen P series CPU but less fan noise and better battery life too. Otherwise the chassis is almost as good as the Yoga 9 and it has the same screen, ports, keyboard, speakers, touchpad and 1080p camera etc. That laptop was not available in the US and scarcely seen anywhere else either. Hopefully later this year the AMD versions of this laptop series will get the wider distribution it definitely deserves.
I don't know why best buy is not available in other countries.....we can't buy this at best buy price anywhere else....even the price is down to 1050 now.....
Just bought the 7i with 1355U and 16GB RAM. Liking it so far but fan noise is noticeable. Before I watched Josh, I don't think I would care lol. Would love to see him review the 7i as well!
8 gb RAM was the recommended at around 2017. very soon after it started feeling a bit too little, and now the norm would be to buy laptops with 16 gb RAM. Do you think now, if possible, the 32 gb invesment is a good idea thinking of a laptop to last around 6 years, or is the move from 16 to 32 as the norm something completely out of the horizon?
@@JustJoshTech as a software dev student and hobbyst content creator (mainly 2D and 3D art, not video production). I'm looking more into your recomendations of the G14 and Mac Pro 14, and considering if I should commit to 32 GB considering the time frame i want my laptop to last for.
@@pseudolemon8272 If you are not in a hurry to buy a device right now and are able to wait, I believe (just rumors, nothing officially confirmed) that Microsoft will make a second gen of their "Surface Laptop Studio" later this year. That might also be a good option to consider for 2D/3D artists as on the first gen there was 32GB RAM option available.
32 is a lot of ram. I was definitely getting by with 8, I'd have like 40 tabs open with word/r studio/excel running simultaneously. I recently had to upgrade to 32 due to some of my research, but 32 is handling a LOT of data and intensive tasks.
@@andrewjazdzyk1215 getting more RAM might also futureproof the device so it last longer. Overtime memory deteriorates and reduces the available memory slots that are able to be utilized
Hey Josh thanks for the detailed video. You really help an indecisive buyer like me. If you get a chance, can you review the newly released Lenova Yoga Pro 9i (Global name)/ Lenova Slim Pro 9i (North American name)?
@Just Josh That sounds great; thank you for your work; I can't wait 🔥. The reason why I wanted the 16-inch is that I have my concerns about the 14-inch with an H processor in that thin chassis. Also, I am a software engineer, and I like a bigger screen without needing to connect to an external monitor, as I'm always on the move. Nevertheless, I hope you will have the time in the future, and I will be waiting for the pro 9i 14-inch review 😀
Thanks for the review I don't mind the fan noise at all is not hardly as bad as you mention. Your probably used to apple garbage anyways. This computer is way better than most apple laptop and the resolution is insane.
I got the 4k resolution one & now regret it after hearing you say it’s not worth it due to battery drainage. I got it because of the RAM: 16GB- Storage: 1TB SSD. Should I just keep it or get the less resolution one? I’m looking for a long term laptop to keep for as many years that I can. Thank you!
Keep it. Neither model is going to have long battery. You will have to bring a charger with you regardless. In the long term, you will likely enjoy the better screen more
You'd think that in 2023, power management on laptop CPUs would be good enough to eliminate the performance versus fan noise conundrum given that a laptop has a decent cooling system. Hopefully, AMD's 7040U chips can properly strike this balance.
Your reviews are always excellent. Any plans for a X1 Gen 11 review anytime soon? With so many different new display options, I'm curious what your thoughts are on battery life for the different display options.
@@JustJoshTech Thanks Josh! You can't imagine how helpful your super professional reviews are to those of us who have to buy from abroad, having to choose without being able to see and touch the equipment. I wish you all the success you deserve!
After so many different windows laptops I've come to the conclusion that I can no longer stand fan noise, short battery life, and heat, and It doesnt get better with each generation, just worse. Apple is on a whole different tier in these aspects, it's not even comparable anymore. If you don't have to have windows, buying a apple sillicon laptop is a no brainer.
In 2023, there is zero issue with fan noise on Windows laptops. This is why Windows laptops have 80% market share to MBs 8%. It is also why 99% of corporations, small businesses, educational institutions, government agencies, and nonprofit across the globel use Windws laptops.
@@JustJoshTechthanks josh. I really don't want to make a mistake on laptops again. I have been searching for the best. Am stuck with is dilemma of *Lenovo 9i and galaxy book 3 pro 360. People are saying that china made laptop are not good enough. I just want a proper laptop that is not too expensive. Galaxy book 3 pro 360 is £1846 and it seems too expensive. Does it work it? Lenovo youga 9! Is about £1500. Does it wort it? Am tired of searching. it seems I will give and continue with old hp lol.
As expected, Josh reviewed never let me down. Precise. On point. I'm looking forward to all of your laptop review for programmers. At the end of all those laptops list. I will buy the most suitable one. Given I already have bad experience with lenovo yoga cuz of its battery are so bad I use it as a desktop. Let's see which windows laptop is the best in this list. Thank you so much Josh for doing all of this. You deserved more than my like and subscribe!
Thanks Josh for respecting our time and dropping the conclusion at the beginning so we can know we're not interested on the laptop and continue to, now willingfully, watch your awesome review til the end just for the joy of watching a great video from the coolest reviewer.
Would be very curious to see your review of the Yoga Slim 9i Pro with the RTX 4000 series GPU. My guess is that you will be looking very closely at how a thin chassis can effectively cool the 13905H processor.
@@JustJoshTechcan u plz advice which is better lenovo yoga 7i i7-1360p or hp spectre x 360 i7-1355u...? No gaming..for normal work...good build quality...fast.. better battery life...future proof...plz reply asap
I think this laptop sounds exactly like the thing that i want to have I want a tablet mode to take notes with a stylus for university as well as be able to code compile and do some general office work. Fan noise rarely bothers me as i usually work with headphones in and some music in the background Also its lightweight and the battery size and performance should ensure that I can keep it a while I am 100% a PC guy but if there ever was a macbook with a stylus support that would be what I would take
Thank you for talking about the fan noise. I have an older generation Yoga and the fan is obnoxious, it's almost always on even with the most basic tasks. I'm going to avoid this model.
You deserve so much more recognition for your amazing work 👏 thank you for another great review! I need a thin and light laptop for some video editing so a MacBook Air with 24 GB makes more sense to me. Wish they release the M3 version this year.
Hello, about a week ago I bought the Lenovo Yoga 9i gen 8 4K. And since I opened it, I have used it for basic purposes such as surfing the Internet and watching movies. But the problem I encountered is the battery, the full battery life on my computer is four hours with absolutely basic use. I checked online and according to tests that people have done, the battery should last 9.5-11 hours of work, which is very far from what happens on my computer. I contacted Lenovo's technical support and after a thorough examination they said that the battery is perfectly fine and there is no problem but it still feels very strange to me. If I wanted a computer most of the time I need to be connected to electricity, I would have already bought a stationary computer and not a laptop... I would appreciate your help, thanks.
If you use this as an ultrabook, which is more basic tasks like office, media and browsing, it is excellent value though not really standing out in any metric. But if you need some iGPU grunt, or have intensive CPU work, then there are better options.
You didn't mention that this laptop has an Oled screen, that's a big difference compared to the HP model. Not to mention that most laptops only have 60hz, not 90. I have this laptop but previous generation, 12th gen Intel processor with the same screen and only 60hz. I'm happy with it, I watch movies and do office work, fan noise is 0, they don't turn on at all. I'm happy with it. Edit: after watching your video, I actually found out my screen is actually 90hz and not 60, I just had to change it in the settings
Only tech tuber on youtube for laptop, most people talk about just specs but forget about major details about experience that makes the real difference , you are truly a gem for youtube tech viewers
I like Josh reviews because he always spend time talking about thermal and how loud fans are. This is very important for me. I am still trying to find a Windows laptop with good thermal/noise management.
good video as always josh :D and it will be awesome if you have time to review lenovo yoga pro 9i and asus zenbook pro 14 oled both really have an interesting specs XD
I have the previous gen 7 with a i7-1260P which is identical in every other respect. Really beautiful laptop. As I recall there is a BIOS setting to further reduce fan noise as well as the power modes. Fn+R toggles the refresh rate 60Hz/90Hz so you can make the battery life or smoothness trade off as and when you need. I find the speakers do have some bass and voices on videos like this one sound clear and natural. It's worth playing with the settings in the Dolby app. Turn off the Wake On WLAN feature to get quite long standby times (nobody tests that in reviews, after how long will it still instantly wake-up? You could be the first to start Josh!).
@@Deepakk12345 I can't say I notice flicker on either setting (your eyes may be more sensitive of course). It just looks smoother and better when scrolling at 90Hz. It's the reduction of certain kinds of blue light that is more important for your eyes, I think? If it were an LCD screen then the flicker frequency of the backlight might be more noticeable, but these have no backlight.
Im a filipino, And I wish I could also have my own laptop even in a small cost. I love watching features for laptop but since we are poor and not rich I can't afford to buy. In the phil. we try to recycle or repair old model computer or laptops.
Damn accurate review. Instant like and instant sub. I got HP spectre x360 thrice. But I returned each one of them because they had the same two issues, thin white line between bezel and screen display on the left and wifi connectivity issues. So I went for Lenovo yoga 9i 2023. This is lot better than HP spectre however, it still has the exact cons as mentioned in the video. Thanks, Josh. Please reach out to me if you want to know more.
Hey Joooosh, Ricky again. Please tell me you'll do the dual screen Yoga book too. Please please please. Keep up the great effort even my mom is proud of you!😂
Gonna check this out tomorrow in the mall. I always buy Lenovo for d family, but after the last one where the hinges had problems and the screen came popping out (its not even a year old), I'm ready to try other brands.
Josh, I just checked it out few hour ago along with the 7i gen 8 & 2023 Asus Zenbook Flip 14". I have to say it looks stunning but the keyboard, price, and HDMI port swayed me over to the Zenbook. Hopefully you get to review that champ soon.
Does the lid open with one finger or do you have to hold the bottom case down? I'm looking to replace a 2022 Yoga 7i and it opens perfectly with one finger.
Hey Josh, I'm a Computer Science student living here in the Philippines I badly need a laptop but I can't afford one, the living conditons here are tough right now. I'm just wondering if you have a spare laptop or if any of you here reading my comment have one, it doesn't need to have any high specs as long as its working it's fine. Sorry for the trouble I'm just doing whatever I can to survive. Thanks a lot.
This I own and MacBook Pro not sure but this looks better built than apple enough it’s WiFi 6 while only 2023 apple devices have that and what a shame that is
I'm still waiting for a manufacturer to produce the perfect convertible laptop: 1. 14" - 16:10 OLED or 2.8K Hi-Res IPS Panel, 120Hz, 500nits, 100% color gamut, low power, anti-glare, anti-reflective, anti-smidge, touchscreen, no PWM (flickering) 2. Three USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports (1 on the left, 1 on the right, and 1 on the back) 3. Two USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports 4. HDMI 2.1 5. Headphone/Mic jack 6. Micro or Full size SD Card reader 7. Battery that lasts 9-11hrs on medium use 8. Keyboard that has the DELETE key on the very top right corner and no extra row/column of keys on the right. Full size arrow keys like on the ThinkPads. 9. Normal size touchpad (not too big, not too small) 10. Very good thermals overall 11. Removable RAM, storage, wifi/Bluetooth cards 12. Weight no more than 1.1-1.2kg (under 2.75lbs) 13. Full size garaged pen 14. Great sounding stereo speakers 15. Rounded edges and small bezels Asking for too much???
I've been using a Costco Levovo Slim 7i (1260-P with 16gb ram and 1 Tb SSD) since August 2022. In most situations, the fan is very subdued and not in the least bit distracting (as opposed to my older 2020 Dell Inspiron with Ryzen 4500 with fans blasting at top speed to run just Chrome). So are these very noticeable with the fans when just using Chrome based apps? I do wonder when Windows PCs will finally be able to compete with Apple when it comes to speed, power consumption, and battery life. I use a Mac Mini M1 at work...love the processor and speed but the OS can be quirky, which is puzzling considering Apple's heritage.
i'm using a lenovo mix (running linux mint) and doing basic coding in pycharm and browsing in the other half of the screen. On it right now and the fan sound like a helicopter. I was gonna ditch it months ago but linux breathed new life into it and is running quite well. I had so many issues with it in the beginning which ditching windows has remedied a lot but the fan noise now is worse than ever. The thing is fan noise seems to get worse with every year so when i see reviews like this where it is already an issue at the start then imagine what it will sound like in 3 years. Hanging out for the next video on coding laptops to buy until I make my choice.
Great review! What are your thoughts on the 7i? Fan noise is a major concern, and I'm primarily looking for a video/ word processing 2n1. Thanks a lot!
So wait, you can mostly eliminate fan noise on a P series by running it lowerclocked - like it's a U processor. And have the perfomarmance when using performance/balanced. Sounds to me like it's the best of both worlds then. I mean Intel P series 13700/13900k still beats an M2 MB Air (without a fan) in silent mode, doesn't it? And an M2 MB pro at performance? So what's the issue?
Great Video! Are you planing to make a review video to the Asus Zenbook 14X OLED UX3404? bcs in your excel sheet you wrote Warning: H series processor is too powerful for 14inch
I like your review style and technical insight is valuable which I didn't see other "light mode" reviewers do; thanks so much Josh :) p.s. would have appreciated if you posted noise levels.. I would not have wasted time or money buying this laptop, I'm returning it. What is a good alternative without the noise?
please help me if my concern with my yoga 9i, my touchpad feels loose making a rattling sound when clicking even on the center, and the scrolling doesn't look smooth on the display, there is a kind of motion blur even at 90 Hz my laptop was sent for a checkup at an authorized Lenovo repair service, and they advised me that the touchpad is supposed to be like that(loose on peruse), and everything is ok with the laptop
The price difference between the US and European market is so big. Here in Europe with under $1500 you cannot buy any decent laptop, almost not even with the previous generation.
Gotta wait for the Lenovo Yoga 9 with an AMD processor and hope that is the 7840u or 7640u. For the love of everything that is holy, please Lenovo please!
Does anybody got any laptop recommendation like MBA m2 with that price range because I'll go to uni this year and already in a huge dilemma wether to go with mac or windows
If i keep it on saving mode for reducing fans noise, does this help? Because if i'm in class and fans start to go crazy that a problem, so i'm wondering if i can do that while i'm in the classroom
Josh i love ur reviews but i feel like you have a vendetta against the hp spectre design😅. Pretty much everyone i know thinks the hp spectre is the sexiest laptop around, in the dark colour with the golden accents.
