Using Pramex trainset for airport trains, it seems like they are short of trains because some green trains were transferred to Bandung to become HSR feeder train. Hopefully they get a new trainset soon

Despite the inconvenience of the service, the airport shuttle train is now the most reliable transportation mode to the airport. This is due to the lack of highway to the airport while the only road access is the conventional road that often had traffic conjunction especially near to the town of Yogyakarta. This is resulting to the high demand for the train (despite the absence of passengers in the video) who arrive by plane at Yogyakarta International Airport. Anyway, thanks for the review video of this train service.

Just after the airport opened I took a taxi from the airport to downtown Yogyakarta. That took me 2.5 hours. After that I flew Citilink to Adi Sucipto, as that was much more convenient. Still is, but ticket prices are 50% higher now, so a relatively short train ride is the obvious choice.

Agree......the schedule should be every 10-15 minutes.....

Also about the time table, as you mentioned, the Yogyakarta Railink is sharing track with InterCity train, and that's why you can't really do clock face scheduling, simply because the frequency on the main south rail line in java it's almost every 10 minutes and even in the busiest hours can have every 5 minutes frequency, meaning if we want to force the Railink service to be prioritised, it can lead to rescheduling of train, knowing about train in Java Indonesia, that's just translate to all java train service have to be rescheduled because all InterCity service even know not all go through south but many of them didn't terminate on Yogyakarta and knowing the amount of train that through running, will make other area effected. Therefore rescheduling some InterCity train (or any other train really) will make other service from freight, local service, commuter service, feeder services, and InterCity service that didn't go through Yogyakarta also have to be rescheduled. The real answer to that problems is not rescheduling but build another double track that dedicated for airport Railink only, and buy more trainset, there for the Railink service can act as express service without interrupting other service.

There indeed is no real solution to the scheduling and frequency because that southern line indeed sees high frequency of intercity trains (and some regional/local as well). Building a dedicated track would be best, but is pricy and is not something that is done easily now, as the project is 'finished'.

@@johanstravel yup the project is finish but that also still a room for upgrade and from what I heard, the operator now constantly talking about upgrading the line. Finished doesn't mean they are no room for upgrade.

@@daviano_R.T.but it seems impossible if depend on the national fund unless the kingdom of yogyakarta wants to fund the double track because jakarta wants to expand the high speed railway all the way to the eastern part of java. not to mention the on going new capital city on kalimantan is neef to be finished on target in 2024...

It did make me chuckle when they introduced the "Express" service which saved a grand total of 4 minutes. I guess calling it the "Marginally quicker" service doesn't have the same ring to it. Although for the 50k you do get assigned a seat number which is a relief for those with seat anxiety. They could also improve one of the smaller stations just outside of the ring road and stop there en route to the airport to relieve congestion in the city, but then like you said, scheduling is a problem.
@johanstravel
@johanstravel 9 месяцев назад
it's all in the details. By any description it is an express train, as it doesn't stop in between. No other guarantees are given with that name. And 4 minutes faster is still that, 4 minutes faster. But if you ask me, they should remove this option altogether, making all airport trains the same service.

Yogyakarta station is too busy for it sizes, they are already planned for upgrade but it's still delayed because the Indonesian railway company still have to buy more land to build new depo near Yogyakarta station because the number of train that starts from Yogyakarta is massive, and that's one of reason is to why it's delayed for upgrade because the land area that Indonesian railway control is not enough for upgrading the station, it's not help giving the fact that the original Yogyakarta station building is located in the middle between both east bound and west bound platform (while the south and north area of train station is already full of houses and hotel), not to mention the area around Yogyakarta station is deemed as national heritage, so demolishing building it's really expensive and hard to do. So it's being postponed until the railway company able to relocate the Yogyakarta depo and build temporary station so the flow of passenger will not being disturbed knowing the number of passengers using Yogyakarta station daily can be around 100K passenger per day

As with the tracks from and to Yogyakarta, the stations (Lempuyangan is nearby) are overcrowded through many times on the day. The solution here would be to make an elevated line like the one in Medan (or Jakarta for that matter, but Medan is currently being developed). It will be a tight fit, but everything is possible if you really want it. You can't 'touch' the station itself because of it's heritage status, which is fine. Outside that, Yogyakarta station has been added on and 'renovated' so many times now, but it has never been done with the passengers in mind it seems. Maybe because of that very status.

@@johanstravel yes, the difficulty is not just from money but also the permit for demolished area around Yogyakarta station. Also knowing the central government is still busy building the new capital, I doubt the Yogyakarta provincial government will convince enough to help Requiring the land for quad tracking.

This kind of DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) train made locally, its engine sound is too loud when you seat on the front car, some of these trains face various technical problems in operational. I do ever experienced like this, when i took a local commuter from my town (still using DMUs at first), but now using regular 80 seats economy car, pulled by locomotive which way much comfortable for me 😅

I've never seen this red livery, all I know is the green one. The green livery is much comfortable with more comfortable seats, luggage corner, and more spacious. I uploaded the review on my channel and blog as well. Too bad you had this red livery which looks like the Prambanan Ekspres local train service.

Yeah. I think it's a former Pramex indeed. I didn't realize when I filmed it but that makes sense. I compared it to the Solo airport train which I have done a few years ago, which was similar to this train though. It's all about expectations I guess. 😜
