This video was originally going to be sent home as a travelogue of my experiences while in Japan, and in the Navy. I am happy that I filmed this, and that we have this technology now to share this with anyone who might appreciate it!
Thanks for sharing this video. I was stationed in Yokosuka from 99-'03 on U.S.S. O'Brien (DD-975) and again from '08-'11 on U.S.S. Cowpens (CG-63). The Blue Ridge is still the command ship of 7th Fleet and she is the oldest operating ship in the U.S. Navy. My wife, who I met in Yokosuka got a kick out of this video. She was 19 years old in 1986 when this was filmed and it brought back a lot of memories.
Thanks for sharing this video I used to be stationed aboard the USS Midway from 1985-88 as a Boiler Tech "B" Division. And I remember the McDonald's - Seaside Restaurant- Mixson's Fixin's- Navy lodge-"A" Club-and most of the Bars on the "Honch" .. And when I came back and visited in 2017, it not the same as it was back in 1986. But the Honey Bee's restaurant right across from the main gate is still there..And the USS Midway is home ported in San Diego as a tour museum
Awesome. I was on that boat in the mid 2000's! That McDonald's is about the same except that they have really built up the 2nd floor I believe. Gotta upload some of my classic Yokosuka vids!
Love this! I was an Army brat at Camp Zama and Yokosuka was not too far so we'd shop at the NEX or catch a movie. You're visit to McDonald's in town was a hoot. Been awhile since I'd been back. Thanks for the flashback! ^_^
It goes by so quick. I was stationed on the Dirty Cushing DD985 2000-03 final station Sasebo Japan ACU-1. Worked on the yokosuka base 2015 - 2018. Wife’s Japanese sons are Japanese I’ll be back again some time. Loved it when I was a young dude.
