It's Adam Koralik here and today we're traveling to Yokosuka Japan! This continues our two week adventure, and the third of TEN episodes. This episode will have a heavy focus Yokosuka Japan, a very unique area that fuses Japanese and American culture. Also famous for being the basis of my favorite videogame ever, Shenmue.

This might be the best Shenmue pilgrimage video I’ve ever seen, seriously, you covered everything that I wanted to see - so glad that your friend randomly showed up aswell that was mad, but great because the two of you joining up to do the rest of the tour was awesome. Thankyou Adam 🙂👊🏻❤️

Great Video. Was on a Ship USS Knox FF-1052 there 1977-79 and loved it. After Navy Retirement I worked for SONY in San Diego and Philly for 8 years because I loved the Japanese Work Ethic. Fixed Play Station 2's in Philly. :) During my time in YOKO I drove the on base NEX Taxies for fun and entertainment when the bars got old.

Super cool! I went to high school in the 90's while my Father was stationed at the navy base there. Many great times spent there. Now that I'm retired military I could access the base. Would be so neat to go back and visit. Thanks for the video!

Today we join our favourite Bearded Shenmue Nerd as he, and surprise visit from a fellow Shenmue fan show us around the Yokosuka area of Japan, and gives us Shenmue nerds everything we could ever want in a Shenmue travel vlog. We see Dobuita St. and many other areas that inspired parts of the area in the first Shenmue. We also get to see some Presidential Burgers. - This video was AWESOME. When you first said you were going to make a trip over to Japan, I was resally hoping you'd make it out here. And Adam, man this video delivered. Thank you ver much!

Shenmue was definitely a special experience which has stayed with me also after playing it when it first came out. I remember going to my local game store to import Shenmue 2 fron the UK when I learnt it was getting a PAL release. And I was devastated when Sega exited the hardware business and the DC was discontinued as Shenmue was left in limbo. I continued to play PSO though but I really wanted the Shenmue story to be realised especially when I knew Yu Suzuki planned like 5 games at that time. The game really did change the landscape of gaming and paved the way for open world story driven games we play today. It's a shame not many people know about it or that it doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

I made the pilgrimage in 2019, and your 2017 tour video was a big help! I also went to the remains of Kowloon Walled City in 2012 or so for some Shenmue II reminiscing. But Yokosuka really stands out because the atmosphere in the game is still very much present in the real life location, while Kowloon Walled City is totally gone. But the spookiest experience of all is going to Kabukicho and Dotonbori, from the Yakuza series. You can literally walk into restaurants that are modeled exactly as they are in the game, and you can easily know where you're going because the streets are all the same. Anyway, Adam's voice impressions while reading the Tsunami Burger menu alone made this video well worth it. 🤪

The Japan - US peace pact is more complicated than you described. Japan, unlike Germany, was solely occupied by the US due to wants and needs from the both sides. The civil war in China and the Korean War caused the so called Reverse Course of the US on the occupation policy which led to the sign of San Francisco Treaty pretty much between the US and Japan that makes Japan a semi-colony both militarily and economically of the US'. Now day, no need to mention it is the China - Taiwan factor makes the US military in Japan, South Korea, even Guam or the Philippines more important from many perspectives.

It's a love-hate relationship... On one hand, Japan needs U.S. military to be based in Japan because its constitution does not allow its own military ("self-defense forces") to proactively protect the country (Japan legally has to wait for someone to shoot at them first). The U.S. being here means there's less chance of people shooting at Japan to start with, because they'd be messing the America if they did. All those bases with their military/contractor personnel also contributes a lot of jobs/money to local economies. On the other hand, the same presence is a proven danger to local communities. There have been many cases of U.S. military helicopters crashing and parts falling off from U.S. military aircraft to damage/destroy Japanese homes and schools. There have been infamous cases of U.S. military personnel vandalizing Japanese businesses/homes and even killing local Japanese people. In fact, just this week a stupid Marine in Iwakuni broke into a Japanese car dealership, stole a new Honda Type R, crashed said car, and ran off back to base. These idiots do not face Japanese law because the U.S. military has special status, which makes a lot of Japanese people resent the U.S. military.
@AdamEatsTheWorld
@AdamEatsTheWorld Год назад
The former isn't exactly true. The Japanese government abandoned that under the Abe administration, and has since doubled down into the American security order. Incidents happen, used to be a lot worse. In general it's pretty positive....outside of Okinawa of course. But that's a whole different situation.
