If they aren't getting what they paid for the students have the right to their money back. You don't offer services you don't have the right to get paid. You don't collect tuition you cannot afford to pay people. Cut your foreign staff. Let your foreign students transfer. Refund them for the strike period only.
This is why I refused to go to York. It has a history of strikes and administrative problems. As a Uni grad, I would recommend anyone to look into College programs to get the most out of your money and education for real world job prospect. Do not do it to make your resume "look good". Nobody cares unless you are going for specific job roles in STEM.
Again ????!!!! GEEZ ….every year, before Covid . I told my kids NO …York U better NOT be on your OUAC applications cause if you go , you go on your dime ! That was 2008 ! And it has happened so many times since . As a parent I feel for the disruptive academic life for these students. My niece and nephew are going to Uni in Sep and I repeated the same advice, pick somewhere else. Why why why why does York U have this horrible reputation of dissatisfied student and teaching experience with so much labour disputes?
Not all faculties are part of the CUPE 3903 and thus not required the to strike. Some of those faculties are operating business as usual, however others have simply chosen to support the strike and have halted their classes. These faculties that are not part of the bargaining agreement and have shutdown anyways, should not be collecting regular pay and those students should be refunded.
Strikers have not compromised with the university’s offer. They should get back to the table asap. International students deserve compensation. The strike is making things worse.
What are you on about? The union has adjusted their demands several times and the university has only been back at the bargaining table once for a few short hours since the strike began.
