I too treat my Abby's bath as a spa treatment. I always try to dim the lighting a bit, play zen music softly, talk to during the whole time, spend a little more time during the shampoo and conditioning and incorporating an extended massage treatment and rinse like you. Towel drying is first patting with cuddles change to a dry towel and repeat. When I do take her to a groomer they always remark about how she is always so relaxed and appears to enjoy the bath. Thank you for sharing this procedure which I feel is perfection.
Thanks so much for sharing! He's so adorable!! I have an 8 month old Yorkie. He's not a big fan either and it's really good to know how long to rinse that makes a lot of sense. Have a blessed day!!!
I’m so glad that this was helpful to you. I actually own a hair salon in Boston, and I learned so much by seeing the condition of my clients scalps when they come in. It sounds so funny, but I can actually tell the difference and I can see when people have rushed their showers and they haven’t done a great job of rinsing away all of the products. Just a little bit of buildup on your scalp can cause a lot of irritation. I always rinse, and then I rinse past the point where I think that everything is removed to make sure that my dogs are not itchy, irritated or greasy after I finish. I hope you have a blessed day as well. Thank you so much for your kindness. Megan
Incredibly Informative! Your delivery is so succinct yet relaxing and relates beautifully how to create a soothing experience to these sweet, tiny and delicate furrbies. Thanks so much.
I think I know my mistake. I'm gentle but I wash him in the bathtub, maybe he's intimidated of the size? He does OK with a wash, but definitely not as calm as your pup LOLOL
Great job. You bathe your Yorkies exactly the same way I bathe my Maltese, except I use a blow-dryer after a good towel dry and I use a small sponge to clean his eyes and rinse his face. Good call on the shampoo for dogs, and not using shampoo for humans. Yorkies are so darn cute.
I do sometimes blow dry them, especially in the winter. It just depends on the temp (and how much time I have). Yes, so important to use dog shampoo. Eventually I may work on formulating my own. I would like to see more organic dog shampoos!
Hi Megan, I love your videos. Just one thing, Yorkies have a slightly higher body temperature than we have. The normal temperature for a Yorkie is between 38.3 and 39 Celsius.
This was so perfect! Our 1.5 year old puts up with baths. Our 1 year old wants to fight it tooth and nail. I’m actually going to go gather all her supplies now for a bath and see if I can help make this a more calming experience for her over time.
One more tip they can make a big difference, before you actually give your puppy a bath try to go for a nice long walk so that they are more calm and even a little bit tired and hopefully it will be a little bit easier. Also don’t go for the “perfect bath” the first time. Just do a nice little mini bath maybe don’t even try to do the head at all just go for the torso so that it seems like an easier bathtime and then do a complete bath next time.
Thank you very much for this video. It has been very helpful to me. I just got a rescue Yorkie male dog and I learned a lot that will help him and him to bathe him correctly. Many thanks!
Thank you for your video! I had no idea what to do with Charlie! I was having some difficulties in grooming him. Now I realize that he needs brushed everyday & brushed prior to his bath! Thank you again!!!
Thank you so much for this video. I learned so much. Our mobile groomer has stopped their service and I'm at a loss as to how to groom my two little yorkies. This helped me so much. Greatly appreciate all the links too.
My puppy loves a bath! She begs to get into the bathtub. I let her play in the water while I bathe her. I always carefully wash her, not causing knots and follow with conditioner. She loves it and doesn't want to get out!
My Biewer Terrier (a yorkie of different colors. Look it up.) gets very agitated in water and wants to struggle to get away,, but seeing this makes me eager to try it.. I have been experimenting with giving her baths of only certain areas at a time, so she won't think of it as a full bath. ( the chest, beard and face one day and the front and back legs and body on different days ). She is much more comfortable doing it that way. But it is inefficient! And your method looks so lovely and gracious, soft and quiet..No surprises, and nothing in the eyes.. She was just spayed today so I won't be able to try it for 14 days... but I am looking forward to it!
I can't find the shampoo and conditioner you used in comments. Thanks so much for the video. I got my yorkie 5 months ago. I did home health care and her lady passed , the family gave me her since i was so familiar with her. I usually take her to get groomed and bathed every 8 weeks but due to winter im gonna do the baths.
I appreciate this video. I have a 14 week old male Yorkie. He HATES baths! It's traumatic for both of us. We are both soaking wet when we're done. I hope to get better at it. How do you get your baby so comfortable during bath time?
I always say that slow and steady wins the race. So if your dog very much dislikes having a bath I would start very very slow with the process and work up to a regular bath. So maybe the first time you do it make it as pleasant of an experience as possible… Take your baby for a long walk before so he’s nice and tired, and then just do one of the steps like just put your puppy in the sink and maybe just wet your puppies feet and then dry them off. Don’t try to do any more than that just go for success. And then the next Time you could try just to shampoo the rear half of your puppy. Shampoo and condition and don’t try to do any more than that. Doing a little bit more each time might be less overwhelming.
Good morning, I wish I would’ve known this when I first got #Zeus he’s just getting over a bad ear infection! I’m gonna let the groomer give him a bath from now on🙂
Don’t let that scare you away from giving him more bands. You are such an awesome and caring dog owner, and I’m sure you can learn to give them the best bands ever. And I guarantee you he would much rather have his mama give him a bath and to go to the groomer every time he needs one. You will save lots of money, time and stress for your baby. If you have any questions just feel free to write me with them, but I believe in you, and everything takes practice for you to be an expert, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t try just because you had one bad experience. Now you know how to not have that happen :-)
I had a terrible experience this morning. I walk with a rotator walker with a seat. I wanted her to go to another room with me to allow my cats to Eat in peace so I put her on the set to give her a ride. I’ve done this before but today she decided to Jump off. She did and she cried and cried hard. She hit the floor hard. I felt terrible. I just picked her up and just held and loved on her. I almost headed to the vet but she stopped crying and walked ok.
After bathing my yorkie, he has dry itchy flaky skins like dandruff. I wash him once a week but am trying to put it out to once every two weeks. I will try to rinse longer.
I would look at my links and I would actually recommend that you try the Espana silk shampoo and conditioner. It sounds like there’s most likely an issue with the product. And your puppy must be reacting to something that you are using to wash him with.
This was an enjoyable video. Maja (My yah) is not fond of her bath. The first time I gave her a bath she gave me one! 🤣🤣 In between visits to the groomers I try keeping her clean with tepid water and a little vinegar using a wash cloth. Your thoughts on that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
I think you could give her a bath really well yourself. I just gave Lola a bath last night and she looks great. Just take your time and do the things in the video and it will be fine. I use my blow dryer after on low air and low heat and avoid her face, and don't bring it too close to her body.
This video was very helpful for me. I just gotten a 3 year old yorkie and she doesn’t like getting a bath. She is scared of everything and I’m not sure what to do to calm her down. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ❤
Could you tire her out as much as possible and just do a mini bath? Maybe just have a little water in the sink (don't run more) and use a washcloth? Try to get her used to it quietly?
Hi there, there’s really no way that I could answer that. I can’t answer why a dog doesn’t bark. I don’t think every Yorkshire terrier barks and I don’t necessarily think that anything is wrong if it’s quiet. Mine bark more because there are several of them. Dogs have unique personalities just like humans.
Good morning. My family and I just got a female yorkie that my daughter named Poppy after her fav movie character. We are in love with her! I love your wash cloth for the face method. I’m going to start doing that. Maybe you can do a vlog on how you teach them to potty on pee pads. I find your vids so helpful!! Thank you! ❤️
I love that you guys have the same name, my dog Poppy actually came with that name and I considered changing it, and then I absolutely fell in love with it. The washcloth method works so well. I actually started doing it after a week where I just didn’t have time to give Lola a bath, but it also couldn’t leave her face looking so dirty. It’s such an easy way to touch up their faces and I actually often touch them up with a washcloth daily. If you look at my videos there’s actually a video on house training your Yorkshire terrier and I think he would find that really helpful. Let me know what you think!
Hi, I brought the Espana shampoo& conditioner&the detangler for my yorkie. Her coat looks good. My question is do your yorkies shed from this product? I've notice that she has, but she never did before. Should I be concerned with that happening? She also scratches before started using the products and still does but I'm not sure why her skin shows no signs of irritation so I was hoping it would somehow help.
Hi Suzy, of course. I don't think that any puppies sit still, it is very common (and healthy). I would suggest bath time after plenty of playtime, so your puppy has expended more energy as is as calm (as a puppy can be)❤️❤️. Please let me know how it goes.
I talk about how I keep them calm in this video I think? Definitely in my other yorkie video. Tire them out with a long walk first. Avoid and noise or activity that will freak them out during grooming. Move slowly and talk softly. Start with just a few minutes at a time to get them used to it.
@@MeganGraham don't have to be hot for yorkies, takes 0.034 seconds for it to be perfect for them. Low body temperatures.. But I do that too as a human In-between scubbing so that's why I took to comment on this.
That is the wierdest brah, shoud probably take to keeping your comments to yourself. Nobody care about running out of water or all the money it takes to get to your house. Its already there and dont coast alot for anyone "here" to get water.
Brah she's got the water on 11 minutes of the the 14 minute video and even says she had to fast forward parts while the water was running. AND SHE HAS THREE; SHE LETS WATER RUN MORE THAN WHAT WE SEE FOR THREE OF THESES THINGS SHE PROBABLY DONT EVEN BREED WITH!(Maybe she did but I'd think she neutered and spray them so they don't impregnated eachother, and further being and making things around useless) ..sorry but you can't even realize your wasting water couse your babies body temperature bs
Hi there, I am so glad that this was helpful. I have had yorkies for so long. I always share the little things I do with them to try to make the process smoother for others. Mine have had baths for years of course, but they still don't look forward to the process. :) ❤️❤️❤️❤️
