I got to fly there in the 1980's. Most beautiful place I have ever flown. On one flight I had a good launch made the left hand turn as did this pilot. Air was very smooth, and as I rounded the corner to cruise alongside the cliff, I see two people sitting on a platform attached to the steep rock face. They had spent the night there. I yelled at the Guy and Gal, "you guys are Crazy!!. They yell back to me, "You are Crazy". All in good fun, and I returned to seeing how much of this magnificent Gorge I can visit. Great landing, then awaited my brother as he had launched after me. I ma 70 years old now and chose to stop flying due to some health issues. Hope you get many great years of flying.
Thanks for the great video, and a huge thanks for not ruining it with crappy background music. I don't know why some people are compelled to add annoying background music throughout their videos.
Flew handgliders five years in the mid 70’s. It’s come a long way from the deltas we flew then. As close to heaven as an earth bound being can get. My best memory was launching off a Cascade mt top with several inches of fresh soft powder snow. Two hundred feet below, was a hawk soaring, it turned its head and looked UP AT ME. This video captured the essence of pure flight and joy of life. At 71 yrs old, whether hand gliding, skydiving, riding my Harley, rock crawling with my jeep, lived life to the fullest. Still am!!

I've already seen a lot of the world, but this Hangglider flight was absolutely the most beautiful thing I could see so far. Thanks for this wonderful video
For me I'm just glad RU-vid exists for both. I hate hiking and have had no interests in hang gliding since I was about 6 or 7, but I love watching these videos.
@@ColinWatters If you are reasonably fit, the trail to upper Yosemite Falls is amazing, with a stomach churning view over a rail of the falls going down, if there is water. But a great view even when the falls are not full. Expect to spend most of the day on that one. Bring plenty of water to drink and a lunch for the top of the hike. Can't beat the view.
Couldn't help but think how the native American Indians probably fantasized this a million times and how amazed they would have been. And really, had they just had this simple design manual they could have flown like the birds too. We really can fly. Amazing.
I was one of the very first hangglider pilots in germany. Started with Mike Harper (if you recall the name) and we had those delta shaped hanggliders in the beginning and of course we didn`t have parachutes as a safety device back then. Getting older (now 71) I had to give up this sport because you should be physically fit for doing this savely. Whats left is watching videos like yours. And I have to admit that I`m real envious. But for sure this is one of the most beautifull flight videos I have ever seen. Thank you so much for this. Stay safe and many "happy landings"! Michael
It is. I recommend it. Taking off feels probably what a bird feels like. Flying above everything from several thousand feet with nothing below you is amazing. This was or paragliding or using what I currently use, a paramotor. I highly recommend it. No license required. Just some good training.
I was told it was a difficult launch, a total sled ride, no thermals, no soaring, just 15 minutes of coasting down. Why would anyone want to travel and do all the work to take that trip... well, your video answered that question. That's just insanely beautiful.
@@lucianocaraballo6082 there may be thermic air in the middle of the day but this site is very restricted for safety and not having crashes in the park. Pilots have to be H4 rated, and the launch window is only in the morning before the air gets active. Gliders have to have a site coordinator present and allow them to launch. There are less regulated sites near Yosemite, like Lake McClure (Mother Lode Sky Riders), Slide Mountain, Dunlap & Tollhouse.
Great vid! Beautiful! One little bit of advice if it’s ok... Always try to a keep your locking carabiner with the bail tightened towards the ground. That way if you get any vibration in the system, the locking screw cylinder that secures it will tighten with gravity rather than potentially loosen. A small detail, I know. I’m a Rope Rescue Tech and we’re a little anal about that stuff...🙄🤣 safe flying!🙏😊
Wow, that's interesting, I've been flying 29 years and have never heard of that, or of anyone's carabiner becoming unscrewed. We usually have a piece to hold the carabiner in the same position so the gate shouldn't be an issue.
Great flight, beautiful landing. Thank you so much for sharing. I've only been to Yosemite once, but this really reminded me of some wonderful times with my late wife. We were rafting on the river, and it was so clear that she thought she was in 2-3 feet of water. She got off her tube and when in past her head!
Absolutely amazing! I was sitting in my office chair attached right behind you. I reached out when we passed the falls but couldn't quite touch them as we sored by them. But I could swear that I felt some mist. Thank you so much for the ride! And don't be worried because I totally trusted you the entire time to get me down safely.
I wonder what Leonardo would have thought ! Wow, what a view. I've been there but never saw it like this! So this is what it is like to be a buzzard or raptor sailing on the wind. It was so quiet and peaceful. When I was younger I used to have dreams like this - flying with my arms out like superman.
Nice job! Perfect route from launch, cool views of skimming the south side, making a beeline for Yosemite Falls and getting great views, there, then skimming the north wall, nice view of The Arches, great set-up for landing, a perfect landing avoiding all the water traps and a hug from your sweetie at the end. Life (and hang gliding) just don't get no better'n that!
@@donmak0427 you have a bit of a twisted notion me thinks, as none of those devices could launch where this pilot launched from, or experience the riches of Yosemite like he did .
thanks, that was a great flight, took me back to the amazing 10 years between 73 and 83 when I flew every weekend, the modern Hanglider has terrific LD and adjustable cross beams, fantastic evolution in this wonderful sport.
Very nice!! Brings back so many memories of launching off Glacier Point. I miss this so much. Hugging the granite cliffs on the north side looking for lift...flying close enough to Yosemite Falls to get misted my it...eyeballing the huge LZ...Nice flair and landing!!! Nailed it!
WOW! One incredible flight! I'll never get to do this, but I love the awesome videos that are presented in such a way, that I can 'virtually' ride along! How I wish that you could have filmed this in 3D! Thank You for a truly epic adventure in the skies over Yosemite!
Super nice demo of how it is to really fly there. I made my approach to the upper Y falls more to the right parallel to the wall and flew THROUGH the falls :-) Such an awesome place to fly. Nice landing: you stuck it. Loved no music just how it really is. I flew there in the '90's. GREAT Video!
Hey man, this is my first time enjoying a fantastic flight. You made me feel what it feels like to fly. Fantastic. Thanks for this good video. You are worth a prize.
I can't believe what I just seen! Perfect I felt like I was right there, it even made me feel dizzy a couple of times, soon as he launched off the cliff, and when he was by the water fall, and coming in for the landing. Well done. 👍👍👍👍🥂👳♂️
Thank you thank you! I flew Wills Wings in the late 70's and I could feel every move you made. Obviously the new gliders are a lot better than the ones we had.
Wow! That was awesome! I watched it on the big screen and just as he was about to lift off I was like, wait! I'm not ready! And off he flew off the mountain and my fear dissapeared right there and then. Beautiful scenery and the big screen made me feel like I was right there with. Awesome video! Subbed 👍
Not that risky, easy sled ride with no turbulence. I never got more than three feet in altitude but the feeling is like nothing else in the world, would prefer it to a hot night with a nice model. Didn't think it was legal there was waiting for a ranger at the landing zone.
Ive done skydiving, Zipline, and parasailing etc..but I've never done paragliding never really had the interest but this changed my perspective. My interest has grown, I like how it last a long time. Looks intense and also somewhat relaxing. Things like this make me feel alive. Good vid
I had about a dozen flights off Glacier Point in the mid 70’s. A couple of flights off Sentinel Dome. Landed in the Ahwahnee Meadows and Leidig Meadows. The “Flying Ranger” Dean Paschall oversaw the flight operations, which were authorized in the early mornings to minimize spectators. As a result, very little thermal lift. You would get a little lift as the granite was quick to heat. The glide ratio was 4 to 1 in the early 70’s so the flight was relatively short. No other venue came close to the beauty of hang gliding in Yosemite. My memories of these flights are still vivid all these years later.
I watched the video from the first second to the landing. The flight is just Super. I dream of flying like this, but there are no such beautiful mountains in Russia.
wow! so awesome! and you made it seem so easy! like a pro. i loved how close you got to the falls! then at the end i was like "What the hells he doing? he's gonna land in the water!!" you scared me! Also, I fly a drone so i can appreciate the heights and alternate views. so i also felt like you were a human drone trying to get the best camera footage. lol. Too bad you cant launch from Half Dome! THAT would be AWESOME!!! Great Adventure video. Thanx for sharing. and hope to see more fun vids from you Hang Gliding.
True peace and tranquility, no music no sound effects just peace. I was last in Yosemite in 1998. Watch king this brought it all back as the first night was a tent and I was bitten very badly by red ants. I moved to the lodge after that and had a great time walking the trails enjoying fresh air and taking photos at mirror lake, then over to the 3 sisters and half dome, sadly the butterfly farm was destroyed in a huge storm .
By far the most breathtaking hang gliding video on RU-vid flying over the majestic Yosemite. I'm sure it takes advanced level to try this because there are so many tall trees all over. Landing safely here is comparable to hitting fairways at the Sahalee Country Club. lol
I haven’t flown in 30 years… Learned to glide at Ed Levin and soar at Funston. . Brought me right back… Thank you so much for a wonderful, beautiful flight
Sean, you should come out and fly again! They're still training at Ed Levin, and Funston just had it's 50 year fly in last weekend. You may see some people you knew out there.
