Come with me on this harrowing journey to one of John Muir's favorite spots in Yosemite. Only 3 miles round-trip to Sierra Point that offers some spectacular Yosemite views. From Sierra Point you can see Vernal, Nevada, Yosemite and Illouette Falls all from one amazing vantage point. This is a dangerous hike that should only be attempted by experienced hikers. The trail starts at the beginning of the Vernal Falls hike on the John Muir Trail from the Happy Isle trailhead. Subscribe to ‪@theyosemiteguyd‬ to keep up on all my hiking adventures. Much Love. :)

I love hiking up to Sierra Point! My channel’s picture of me was taken at Sierra Point almost 30 years ago!

Great pic! Sierra point is an amazing spot… especially when all the falls are pumping.

Amazing adventure , yet again ! Way off the beaten path to a million dollar view. Hardcore BF hike on what appeared to be an abandoned trail. Curious if you have done that route in years past and if it had ever been an official park trail. Great nacho treat to refuel after a strenuous climb. Actual plate and fork too. Super video. Very cool to connect with one of your fans as well.

I did that trail a long time ago so I didn’t remember exactly which way was the right way. I think the trail was actually abandoned in the 70’s due to rock slides and dangerous conditions. It was one of John Muir’s favorite spots though. And yeah I can’t believe I actually had utensils. Haha. Come to Yosemite so I can take you on a hiking adventure:)

There are lots of old trails that are not maintained any more, in all the Western National Parks and other areas. They are really fun to travel on, as there are usually not too many people on them. Thanks for the info.

Yes, that's true. Vintage and antique wilderness books are a great source to find some, besides talking to locals.

@@theyosemiteguyd That is exactly what I do. I have several old books on the Tetons. In the Tetons you can discover a lot by hiking in off trail areas and just driving around.

how about snakes????

Snakes are common during summer in this area. Even seen a lot of rattlesnakes past the top of Nevada Fall. Definitely something to keep an eye out for.

I've never been to Sierra point, and at this point I'm resigned to probably never going there. If I was with another hiker whom I trusted and who'd already done the climb up a couple of times, I'd consider it. Great views up there! Thanks for the vid :)

It’s easy to zig when you’re supposed to zag for sure. I had a couple of wrong turns myself and had to backtrack. Hopefully this video can help you find it. Was an awesome view.

Did this a number of times back in the 70’s, before it was decommissioned. Was any of the old cables or hand rails still there? The view up there was amazing! 👍🏻💪🏻👊🏻
@theyosemiteguyd
@theyosemiteguyd 4 месяца назад
That’s so awesome!! No cables left. Really the only rail was at the actual sierra point on the edge there. Kind of a loaded question but what are some of your favorite lesser known Yosemite spots?

@@theyosemiteguyd oh wow, that’s a tough one to remember! The bottom of the Royal Arch Falls, the approach to and glacier on Mt Lyell (lots of people see Lyell from the canyon, but not a ton of people see the canyon from Lyell 🤷🏼‍♂️), the Top of Mt Hoffman and scrambling down the back side of Bridalveil Fall. Most of the way anyway. Loved that place from the moment I first saw it. Camp 4 was pretty cool too before it became a zoo. 😂
