99.9 percent of serious athletes have serious skeletal alignment issues. The fact you have a man doing big bar flips after double knee surgery is not a win. You're just as focused on ego as everyone else. Doing neat tricks instead of building meaningful comprehensive fitness. And healthy skeleton. Your spinal column isn't straight, which means you have frozen vertebrae. Dump everything you think, and go back to basics. You can't build a house with a crooked foundation. Theres no reason for that man to be doing big bar flips if he can't do a pistol squat, or go ice skating and have dynamic leg movement and knee stability. This is a totally ridiculous unsystematic way of approaching health. You don't play like a crazy person until your entire skeleton is healthy. You have to be a patient adult and fix your skeleton. This is all a sham.
@@martinvulu1848 I didn’t really get the shaming feeling you did. I just saw a warning as to whether you’re training too hard and not having fun. The biggest thing was just saying have fun and you have to believe you have limitless potential
@@martinvulu1848 that’s why I said no one said you couldn’t. There were examples of people lifting weights in the video too. He’s not saying that you can’t, just that he thinks there’s a better way. That’s a scientific hypothesis and he’s got a little bit of evidence but like all weightlifting things. Fitness is constantly being researched so there are tons of different theories. Do what you want and see what works for you 🤷🏻♂️
This is one of the greatest videos for growth, fitness, sports and health I've seen in a long time. After years of training in gymnastics and now in working as a psychologist in sports, this is what the core message for training and competing should be. Without fear and expectations. Loving the process, adapting and development. No maniacs only looking for success and goals in the future to get acknowledgement and to prove themselves. Instead enjoying the journey, setting personal skill-oriented goals and improving yourself because you love yourself, others and nature. It brings movement and spirituality together. Totally inspiring, I love it. So thank you❤❤❤
What’s an example of a skill oriented goal? I’d like to do a human flag one day, is that a goal? I’m also troubled with gout and working to heal my joints, especially my feet, so this channel came up at a good time.
I ended my gym membership. Decided to be honest with myself and accept that I’m not having fun at the gym especially lifting weights and it’s just putting stress on my body. I’d rather climb a wall, swim and roller/ice skate. Also working at a restaurant I’m already physically active. Makes no sense adding more stress and I’m somewhat in pretty good shape now what I’m doing. I do miss having a third place to go to with people with the same or similar life style goals.
@damon4508 I do that at home but still would rather do something fun. I don’t have the best attention span in the world so I need to “trick” my brain into exercising if that makes any sense.
@@ambersummer2685I personally absolutely love lifting weights, doing some powerlifting, Olympic lifting, callisthenics etc. in the gym or in the park. The goals I have there motivate me. However, if I didn’t think it was fun I would absolutely not have the discipline to do it. So find something that builds a strong body and is also fun to you indeed.
@@ChanceGuevara I mean I’ve made myself go on my worst days. I wasn’t being lazy. Why not find other ways to build strength that I enjoy? Why does it have to be weights? I’d say if I am doing something wrong, I might be going a little too heavy with the weights and over working myself. But I only lift weights bc I thought that was the only way to build strength.
I do a lot of crossfit and some calisthenics on the side. I've been feeling that the FUN of doing it all is missing. I've been trying to explain to my fellow crossfit gym buddies that what i'm seeking is a gym at which to actually hang-out, particularly on a Friday night. I want to go in, have some social time, we all work on moves and have some fun with it all. Most of the time I feel that we all go in for an organized class and then all go home. The goal is to complete the session as quickly as possible and say that we did it to make ourselves feel better. But I really just want to go in and crawl, flip, jump over stuff and have a good social time. I did some parkour for a while and found that the parkour community had more of this fun vibe to it and everyone would hang-out. We'd do it for hours. Instead of going to a bar on a Friday night, I want to have fun in a gym doing interesting things which I don't normally do. I have 24-hour access at my Crossfit gym, usually i'm the ONLY person in there on a weekend night if I do go. This video expresses exactly how i've been feeling and what i'm trying to express to others around me.
Well said. I have one intense full body workout weekly and the rest i use to have fun or slowly work on some skills. Turning 33 this year and still looking like competitive 20y gymnast which i never was. I dislike the commercial gym type of workouts. Most people go there and act like programmed robots. When you find a nice place to workout with decent people then its not only just a workout but hanging out too. Which is great because it means we dont need to go out for drinks every day to live with ourselves
@LeeWeiland I respectfully ask you to develop an online training system that is affordable for normal people. It may involve using less one-on-one coaching in order to be feasible. If you can find the market equilibrium price that brings the maximum number of users to your platform while still giving you the highest net profit, then you will have the most widespread positive impact on people.
Awesome message! I'm gonna turn 50 this year and I hike nearly every day, ski and snowboard 3+ time a week winter, rock climb, mountain bike, dirt jump, paddleboard in summer. You don't stop playing when you get older, you get older when you stop playing! PS-I also truly enjoy lifting weights. ;)
@@zephyrr108 To the contrary, I work a demanding fulltime job for one of the largest companies in the world as well as having a family with 2 pre-teen kids. I just make good use of my time. ;)
As to cope up with starting depression i had back then in 2022 i started kickboxing last year and yoga too i started realising i found solace in such activities which i like - kettlebell workouts , mobility stretching workouts though i do weight training twice a week but i dont push myself it’s like something i like , not just because i want to achieve something from that or ego lifting… blatantly i like activities which you have incorporated in your training sessions . May be i am yet not aware of so many terms relating to fitness world not abashed on this , as a normal person seeking health mind and body i love to see your videos
Hmmm.... I am 66, love working out, it makes me feel better, and yes, I can sustain it. Oh, I do need to be mindful of recovery between workouts. Lee's methods are very sound, but can be combined with more traditional kettlebell, dumbbell sort of workouts. There's no 'either or' - just like diets.
Thank you so much for staying true. I needed a reality check like this. I started working out with the mindset I want to be a ninja and now I was stuck in the I'm aa beast.
It all depends on what you're going for. Bodybuilding for example means using isolation exercises for each muscle. A bodybuilder could care less about doing flips, he just wants to get bigger. Football players need pushing power with their legs to push 330 pound linemen out of the way. If you want to do the flips and handstands then of course this is correct but it all depends what you're working to accomplish.
i love body building but calistenics are fun and creative , build relative strength, the amazing moves, it's healthy makes you loose, flexible, and improves mobility. Pull up dead hangs, deep dips, and push ups are great for shoulder health.
Hey I like this perspective about working out. And it truly makes me happy that I ws always leaning more towards having fun with the movement than overachieving and doing crazy amounts of workouts.
Can relate to this exact way of training from doing calisthenics and street workout, my workouts would be around 4-7 hrs and most of the time is just me and my friends messing around trying stuff and just generally having fun. Our freestyle tricks would progress exponentially quicker than people who train it in a more serious manner, it's like because we're having fun and not 'grinding' the moves, we're more willing to try new stuff, thus landing tricks a lot quicker and consistent. (or rather, we're more open and accepting of doing the movements instead of being afraid of falling)
I blame bodybuilding for the problems we see in the fitness industry. As long as long as you incorporate, push, pull, hinge, squat, lunge, and rotation exercises into your training, that's all you need
Medical Doctor Peter Attia, a longevity specialist lectures on Vo2 max being an indicator of overall health. He also lectures on how one should be able to hang from a bar for a minute with each arm. Back to Vo2 max training. Doctors Attia says zone 2 cardio, so cardio in the 60 to 80% range is your best training tool because it minimizes lactic acid buildup which we all know causes the muscle soreness which is one of the reasons people don't like to exercise. Pavel Tsatsouline, the kettlebell guy has a great book called the AXE method, another guy who says you want to avoid high intensity exercise because of lactic acid buildup.
I'm a carpenter, staying fit becomes more of a sustainable diet situation for me. on our crew we all move around a fair bit, but you can still out-eat that movement if you choose to, to a degree.
Good point. When I was a builders labourer in the 80’s we were always competing on who get up to the first loading bay with scaffold tube so the crane could pluck it. As the building grew, they kept on raising the loading bay. I think the 5th floor was our Mt Everest. We all eventually made it but it was fun pushing each other. Nights at the gym were our serious times.
By far the best piece of advice I have heard for decades😊!!! The true path to athleticism and physical strength is achievable by having mindful steps to personal growth and development - especially when having fun😅. You are a great inspiration for all the maniacs out there 🙌. Thank you so much for your effort and commitment 🙏
So your saying to take it easy and not be hyper competitive, I agree on some points where you shouldn’t be doing high intensity 100% of the time although high intensity is where we grow, taking it easy and just messing around is the same as dabbling.
This video is just GREAT!! congratulations for it, I am a fighter and I trully don't beleive in lifting at all it is AWFULL for everything related for fighting and all other sports. This video is very important for the fitness industry, I apreciate the work man
Great video about growth. Not only calisthenics, powerlifting, fighting sports, gaming etc. references are here, but also this video refers about development in those and other activities.
This hit home for me so much. I used to work out so hard and it was stressful, in addition to my job and kids. After having our third kid, I just couldn’t do it anymore. At the same time my boxing practice is still fun. The references to the Bible really added to this presentation as well.
When I was weightlifting I wasn’t losing any weight whatsoever. I was getting stronger and building muscle, but I achieved my dream body when I dabbled in MMA. Sadly I lost my passion for combat sports so I’m looking for another fun way to get fit
Yes i had so much fun doing biketrials that i did not care about competitions or proving anything and i became very good. I realised after years that fun is the key
I'm 53 and do some of these moves. You don't have to work-up to anything extreme such as backflips. Merely crawling and doing animal flow, rolling and sommersaults will do it. Essentially just mobility movements. They're physically demanding in their own way, trust me. But also fun. Doing monkey bars and hanging motions are both fun and beneficial. Most adults can't hang with one arm, but remember as a kid you could probably fly across the monkey bars. That fun yet very beneficial aspect of natural body movement has been missing in modern training methods.
Nicely stated. Think I’ll keep my gym and climbing gym memberships, but as I age, bodyweight, gymnastic, and calisthenics take up bigger places. Before I know it, the sun’s up, my workout’s done, and I have a day of climbing, hiking, mountain biking ahead of me.
As a former "maniac" that would be in the gym from 5:00-5:30AM to noon- 1:00PM and then doing sparring later on from 6ish to usually 8 or 9 but sometimes, embarrassing late and we would often get over competitive to the point where we're in real fights with each other 🤦♂️not good but I'm blessed to be able to practice and train the correct way now and it is very similar to what you are showing on here so I subscribed and will be checking our your other content.
I approach working out and life in general as a “serious game” 😂 Not too serious and not too laid back to the point of indifference… Sometimes when it’s required I go to the extremes but for very short period of time. You can’t put it in a block of time, it’s intuitive… For example when I play soccer/football I engage fully, actually playing in my best capacity, but in the same time realising it’s just a sport and mostly for fun. Thus avoiding becoming too aggressive, taking things personally such as some misplaced tackles etc In the end I’m not concerned with winning or losing, but part of the game is trying to win…just not attached to the outcome.
Anyone that says "why do people exercise than feel bad, is because their doing it wrong" i wont listen because all movement is exercise and all exercise is movement, yes having fun is a big help immensly whilst being active, there is no right or wrong way of doing it because your still doing exercise, hes really only right about 1 thing, humans have moved away from natural movenent which would help the physicallity alot more.
Love this video. Fantastic. Came right at the right time for me too Cheers Lee. Your a wise and dedicated man and your work is changing lives keep going King
It's all true. But there's also a place between. When you're not a kid anymore, you already sat down for years. Anything you try is painful and just gives you more and more frustration. No fun at all. You can work out to the point where the fun begins (believing that it is there somewhere), or give up. It's like taking instrument for the first time. You know what you want to hear, but.. forget tuning, notes, chords, scales, just.. have fun? Not fun at all.
Here's my problem. I need a fun list. I get enough stress from work that I run out of the creativity to even recognize what would be fun so the solution is to do a set thing. Even a fun thing done as a set thing isn't really fun, it becomes working out. Like you said, fun requires adaptation. So I think the trick is to help people who are already burned out identify fun.
0:22 Bruce Lee lifted weights though. He believed that every form of physical human expression (weight lifting, martial arts, overcoming isometrics, calisthenics, etc) had something you could take and add to your own personal way of moving your body.
Most people treat working out like a chore or as if they're preparing for war. No one likes chores or wars, which is why people struggle. I get out of bed in the morning head first into a handstand then into a front roll just because it's fun. 😂
Lee Leiland what about using a weighted Jump rope is that a max engagement workout? Or anybody who knows the answer. I was told lifting lighter weights for endurance muscles is different than lifting heavy.
The thing that turns me off about this is I like the ripped look with some good noticeable muscle. These guys are chiseled but they don't look ripped. In fact with a baggy shirt on they look like everyone else. Weight lifting has people saying things like, "Man, you have really been working out!" I'm not putting in the time on anything that doesn't show the gains.
The Hare Krishna "bible" has Krishna say something like, focus on shooting the arrow not the result of shooting the arrow. And i liken this to a male gymnasts body where they focus on doing the moves and not their body aesthetic and muscle building, but they build the muscle anyway. And here in this video the tldr version is, focus on the physical activities you enjoy doing and the body results will automatically come.
I remember when I was doing normal workouts, I'd usually have to force myself to start and be happy when I finished. Now when I see a long straight road, I often have to resist the urge to sprint it or drop to all fours and have some quadrupedal fun. It's a totally different mindset and I imagine the results are going to be totally different too.
tony holler / feed the cats, sprint coach in high school operates with same principles but i guess yall guys know him....im a 32 year old male who never really learned to run let alone sprint as a child and ive smoked cannabis daily since 16years old...i recently hit 35km/h topspeed with these same exact principles...15-30 min jumpfun/plyo/movement/sprint drills and 2 to 3 full capacity sprints, 3 times a week...i stopped doing any distance work and ive had no injuries so far...4-5 months in
Basically bodyweight, calisthenics workout. It is the true strength and endurance building, why do you think military force you to do them? Lifting heavy is not the key.
i practice Kendo which requires explosive action at a moment's notice. I don't need to train in high intensity workouts, Kendo is enough & if you are not relaxed it can wear you out quickly
Doing something intense. Waiting around/chatting having fun then doing another intense thing again is essentially strength training. I do weight lifting as a PT and love it. As much as your body is designed to build where it seems necessary it also sheds excess and I like going to the gym to keep my muscle in check. Everything else is just lifestyle. To this day I haven’t done a more short intense abs workout then backflips 👍🏻
Beautiful. There’s an entire ethos here. Takes a certain personality to be open to endeavoring toward a meaningful pursuit knowing that the journey is the most important (and enjoyable) part. Cheers !!
I have two flights of stairs from the garage to the first floor and again to the second floor. As my memory deteriorates as I age, my fitness level should greatly increase. Though my wifes patiences with me may greatly suffer having failed in my three attempts to get the hamburger out of the freezer in the garage having forgotten why I was there. Evidently we aren't having ice cream for dinner.
I believe I saw over one hundred people & all about their lives but I clicked to learn THE 'METHOD' Please, what is it, I go to the Gym every day and I am eager to get to know your METHED, how do I do it. Is it, push my weights faster & pull the bands quicker. Please....
