I like how this male doctor is passionate about skincare. Too many men don’t do skincare due to being label as a feminine routine. We need to normalize skincare and beauty care for men.
Yeah, you don't usually see this kind of passion for skincare in straight men. When my 21yo husband deployed to Iraq in 07 I sent him sunscreen bc he was in the middle of nowhere and the army dgaf about the grunts dying from melanoma ten yrs later but instead of wearing it he just carried it with him everywhere like a talisman🙄. As such I'm always on the lookout for any precancerous moles I'm gonna have to bully him into getting checked out. He's lucky he's so cute bc lord he's not very bright about these things!
Hyaluronic Acid helps reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles retaining moisture to the skin, creating a plumping effect. When the skin is protected and hydrated, increased skin cell production can take place, as the skin isn't busy fighting for hydration. This leads to smoother, plumper skin cells.👍
@@soonsuicidal I should have specified, is an HA needed in a dry environment? Another derm was saying depending on if your environment is wet or dry, you may need an occlusive or an HA can actually draw out water inside of keeping it in..but I can’t remember if that is correct or the other way around
first this is natural. second i would think dr vanitta and Dr Alexis Stephens here on youtube that specifically specialise in skin of colour would be in "better" position to answer your question.
If your not allergic to it (always do a test patch behind the ear or on the forearm!) benzoyl peroxide is amazing at both helping with ingrown hairs and reducing dark patches of skin (underarms, anywhere you have skin chafing) *do not use on broken skin/open wounds. Using an exfoliating mitt afterward is also helpful!
Can you please let people know this ingredient can dry skin out in arid, desert climates? I wish people would bring it up when talking about this ingredient. Thanks!
I don't know if you believe in Hyram or not but he once mentioned in his video that climate does plays a role in using HA. My understanding (based on what he said) is that HA is better for people who live in humid climate compare to dry climate because HA draws moisture from its surrounding (the air, the moisturiser on top of the HA itself, etc.). If there is no moisture that can be taken in, it will instead take out the moisture from your skin. (I guess this is why Dr. Shah said to apply appropriate amount of moisturiser after you apply HA serusm.) Again, I'm not an expert and this is only what I know based on what Hyram said, so take what I said here with a grain of salt. :) Edit: I’m sorry. I thought you were asking about whether HA is affected by climate. (Hence my reply.) I just realised that you’re not asking. You are STATING it and asked Dr. Shah to talk about it. I am so sorry if my reply appears to be kinda snobbish when in reality you already know everything that I stated. I need to read more carefully before replying next time. 🙃
@@leneskov5184 So does Dr Davin Lim and Go See Christy and another of other skin care folks. Dr Lim has said HA is better underneath the skin since that's where it naturally is in the first place. Go See Christy also recommend glycerin. Beta Glucan is another good one or polyglutamic acids.
Can you please do a video on how best and when best to use certain ingredients/products in a routine? Like HA, Vit C, Niacinamide, AHA/BHA and Retinols? Teach us oh wise ones!!!! Lol
1. These are called active ingredients. Apply only one of these ingredients at one time (i.e. one in the morning, one in the evening.) 2. Apply Vit C in the morning. 3. Follow with moisturiser and must apply sunscreen. 4. Apply AHA/BHA and Retinol in the evening only. Apply only one of these active ingredients in one evening. 5. Follow with moisturiser. Must apply sunscreen the next morning. 6. Apply Niacinamide in either morning or evening but do not apply it at the same time as Vit C. 7. HA can be applied in either the morning or evening, or both times. 8. Give your skin about a week to adjust to any new active ingredient before adding a new one to your routine.
I went through an entire bottle of the ordinary hyaluronic acid without knowing that I have to dampen my skin first😂 Now I’m definitely gonna buy a new one to see the difference. Thank you Dr. Shah!
I use the L’Oréal Hyaluronic Acid too because you guys mentioned it in the previous videos! ;) I apply morning and night. After vit c in the morning and after retinol at night. Def didn’t know I needed a heavy moisturiser after! Will add that too my routine! ;)
No disrespect but my word, you’re a very beautiful being.🤩 Consider acting or modeling if the dermatologist career gets boring OR do both.😄 You’re definitely social media friendly.
Renee, Is it appropriate to objectify him like that? He's probably helping people who may have skin cancer. And you want to know if he would prefer to model of he gets BORED of saving peoples' lives?
@@michaelorion8830🙄 I bet you’re fun to be around. (Yes, that was sarcasm). My comment was a well intentioned compliment without being disrespectful or distasteful. I also wasn’t “objectifying” him so calm down… toots.
Since I have added Timeless Hyaluronic Acid to my skin care routine (I add 2 drops to my moisturizer and apply to damp skin), I have not had any peeling from Adapalene.
Great #shorts!! Question: what’s that facial mist you used in the video to dampen your skin before the application of hyaluronic acid? I want to definitely incorporate that into my regimen! Thanks 🙏
If u dont dampen your skin before applying HA it will get water in your skin because HA is a humectant it holds onto water or get water in the environment if its humid
no? If you do not apply to damp skin, HA will draw water out. This is how osmosis works. Since your skin is around 70% water, it will draw water from your skin as opposed to the air
Did you try different brands of HA? I've heard that products with different sized HA molecules are better absorbed through the skin. Also, I watched a Lab Muffin video where she said HA doesn't suck water from the skin, it simply attaches to water molecules that are super close to it.
“A few drops”… I’d love for you to do a video about dosing skincare. Is “a few drops” 3? 4? 5? I’m not purposely being dense. I really am asking. Am I using enough, or too much? (Thanks so much for your videos. I’ve learned so much rom you guys!)
Hey Dr. Shah, if my HA is already contained in some type of cream, do I still nned to apply more moisturizer afterwards . . . or does this video only pertain to a liquid HA "serum" which does not have a cream base? Tnx.
Hello. Hope you don't mind me interfering. If your moisturiser contains occlusive's such as dimethicone, wax, petrolatum, etc. I think it's safe to use as your last step. The HA should draw in moisture and the occlusive should lock it in place. I guess that is the whole point of formulations? If your skin feels and continues to feel soft as a bottom for at least 4-5hours post-application, it should be a good indication of how your skin is taking in the product? Hope this helped!
I love Hyaluronic Acid. I do my routine twice a day (obviously with sun protect and drinking lots of water), my skin feels so soft, with less maskacne, clean, glowing, and elastic.
I have extremely oily skin and I use the L’Oréal hydra genius moisturizer for oily skin. It contains aloe and hyaluronic acid! I noticed that when I put it on, there’s a slight burning for certain areas on my face. I also noticed that my skin becomes a bit too dry despite my oily skin. I normally apply it after my topicals have sat on my face for a bit (adapalene at night and cliyndmacin+benzoyl in the morning). Am I applying it wrong? And are there any moisturizers I can use in the morning to reduce sebum?
I just can't get over how beautiful this man is. 😍 I am totally listening to all the advice and information in all his videos but just find myself staring at him. Have to watch these videos 2 or 3 times to get the full message. Someone, tell me I'm not the only one.
No you not the only one !!!! I watch all like 10 time ! Or more 😂 Everything feature on this man he perfect!!!! Oh gosh those eyes and eyebrows oh his skin perfect!!!!!
When should you use retinol in the night routine? I have almost everything from The Ordinary and I try to follow instructions but kinda just wing it with the routine.
As moisturisers have a balance of emollients and occlusives , it wouldn't need a seperate moisturiser after that . What a moisturiser does is basically trap the humectant (HA in this case ) in our skin by a layer of occlusives so if u see Petroleum jelly , mineral oil , any butter ( shea , mango , cocoa , kokum , murumuru etc ) or any of that sort don't need a seperate moisturiser
Can we use HA before vitamin C and then moisturize? Please make a video on how to layer products and if we need to wait or apply while the skin is damp. Thank you Doctors!
@@ethanjacobbelarmino8226 the HA is not going to reduce the efficacy of the vit C. Actually the HA helps to stabilize the vit C. My vitamin C has HA so after using it I add a HA essence from COSRX Snail Advanced. Love it!
i always put my retinol on first, then my HA. i dont know if thats right, but i feel like it helps "calm down" any sensitivity to the retinol. then niacinamide, then moisturizer. it's like a moisture sandwich - damp skin, treatment, moisturizing stuff, treatment, moisturizing stuff.
Could you make a video focusing on Glossier? I really think it would be interesting to hear your view on it, is it hype or worth it? Also what products are effective from there. Just an idea!
it’s annoying how it doesn’t say that in the directions to apply to damp skin. i’m lucky when i got mine i did a lot of research on it and such and kept finding that to be the most advised thing when using HA
Can we just appreciate how beautiful this doctor's skin is. I'm 53, and yes, the profile image is current. I've always been an advocate for skin care. ❤
the secret is because men shave, shaving the face can have exfoliating effects and gets rid of dead skin, even women shaving the face is becoming more popular now.
LOL! I just started caring for my skin at 56. Bought every product mentioned on Doctorly, Nikol Johnson and others. After watching MANY Doctorly videos that stress the need to clearly identify what issue you wish to address. That will dictate the course of "treatment". Now I am down to 2 products (beside sunscreen and moisturizer).
@@lin9796 Exactly, it's not difficult once you get down to the basics of what you need. Just because the beauty industry pushes a bunch products doesn't mean you need that many.
so that's why my skin started itching once after i used hylauronic acid... i was just about to throw it away so THANK YOU! (btw it wasn't the first time i used it but it was the first time i started itching so that's why i think it's because i don't moisturize. NEVER FORGET TO PATCH TEST!!)
Maybe on young skin you will not notice soon enough, but I'm 40 and after few weeks of usin HA 2% Ordinary (properly - few drops on wet skin, applying moisturizer after) I ended up with dry wrinkeled skin more than I had before. I think not the best product to use every day.
Your skin is beautiful! I am following your skin care recommendations. My face is breaking out more right now but I saw you video where you said that was normal! Hoping my skin will get as smooth and glowing like yours! Thank you for educating us!
Thank u for showing me where and how tonuse it. I watched ur videos and see the what type is for what but not SURE WHERE TO Put THEM ON NY FACE ! Thanks these are great little vids
Thanks mister. I just started using this and wondered what i was doing wrong. The instructions said apply to clean DRY skin and that felt awful. Tomorrow i will start doing it your way! Looking good.
