Serious question…why do so many people bother making the Chase Trifecta? You can have the Chase Freedom Flex and the Sapphire Preferred or Reserve and you get everything in the trifecta except for 0.5 catch all points that you would get with the Freedom Unlimited. 0.5 isn’t that big of a deal and it’s fewer credit cards to think about and one less inquiry on the report.
Wait, yes all 3 cards have a 3x for dining so it would seem that it doesn't matter what card you use. However, doesn't the Sapphire also give you a 10% annual bonus on all the spend you put on that card? So technically using the Sapphire for dining would be a slightly better option because it's going to give you some bonus points on your anniversary.
@@MattWelterOfficial so I was at 4/24 (technically) before I got the flex and was approved instantly 6k limit then I applied for the preferred a month later and was denied due to just opened the flex but I told them I needed it for a wedding 😅 my Experian report for some reason doesn’t show all my credit cards that help me get approved but I was really at 6/24
Great points made Matt. I've seen quite a few times where people are using the higher tier card over the others and overlooking the multipliers they are missing out on.
These are great tips! Chase has some great partners but you have to know how to use those points. I pretty much plan UR points around Hyatt, or your last tip being transfer bonuses. I used the Aeroplan bonus as well which was clutch!
Yikes! Imagine putting all of your spend on the Sapphire Preferred and ignoring the Freedom Flex altogether. That would be horrible. Also, you mentioned the exact reason why I hate booking travel through a travel portal. I’ll take my chances with Capital One since I get the $300/yr credit with the VX, but other than that, I’ll transfer out points to book directly with the airlines any day!

Please someone answer my question! I recieve a family rate if I book directly through Marriott. Is there a way to double dip points through Chase? I understand the travel portal is a third party, but booking through Marriott in my situation gives a bigger discount. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Is the preferred or the reserve better for a 1 card chase setup?? Not interested in the trifecta as i have other cards for those category spend. Looking to add 1 or 2 transferable currency cards to my setup and will only use the points for flight redemptions (so no outsized hyatt stay redemption)
I know you were focused more on the Sapphire Preferred, but the CSR gets 10X on Lyft until March 2025 and a free 2 year Lyft Pink membership. Value to those who value it.
Totally fair point. Yeah value is found from the beholder so of course if people really value the Lyft benefits then that is something to consider. Appreciate you watching!
Im confused can someone help me in the comments the flex card has 5% back i thought that means cash back because the other cards that give points have like the unlimited says 1.5x instead of 1.5%? Can anyone clear this up for me?
Yes so you get the 5x back in the form of Chase points, but you can cash those points out at 1 cent per point if you’d like to essentially get the same 5% back
