1998 1999 2001 2002 Honda Accord Odyssey
1998 Honda Accord V6, crank no start diagnosis.
1. checked below oil cap to see if the rockers arms are moving up and down when engine is cranking over. this is just to know if the timing belt snapped. with this vehicle it did not.
2. sprayed starting fluid in the throttle body to see if it will start. the fuel pump could be bad. the car still would not start.
3. tested the fuses at the drivers side panel. all tested good.
4. looked at fuses under the hood but did not test because i did not know ACG S is connected to the PGM-Fi Relay.
5. removed and correctly placed spark plug cables to the distributor cap.
6. looked under the driver side dash and the PGM-FI relay was missing. Par's friend stole it.

Yeah that definitely isn't a friend one who sabotages your vehicle. I had a similar case with someone and feel sorry for anyone who crosses his path. Good thing this guy had an Angel. :) Also great video on troubleshooting a no start.

As soon as I started watching this video, I though "Main Relay". Now I didn't expect it to be missing I just thought the solder joints had cracked. That is actually a common problem with this gen. happened with my 2000 Accord and ScannerDanner has a great video on this. Thanks!

had just fixed the ignition not turning on my 07 accord, got everything put back together, would turn over, no start, did everything under the sun, watched this video, took the plastic off around the steering and sure enough one of the plugs wasnt pushed in all the way. THANK YEW SIR.

if not for Angel, this can cost a arm and leg to fix because no one expect two "sabotage" and take out an OEM expensive relay. It is lucky he found this out now than later.

yea it’s crazy tho even if he did sabotage the main relay, generally those things die out around this time in those old Honda’s, so it’s a good thing you troubleshooted it and replaced it! good job man!

A lesson then. Never ever let anyone borrow anything who does not value or appreciate this gesture in today's time. Rather thanking you for your generosity, he went out of the way to make you pay for your kind gesture. That is sad. That friend messed up the trust you had for him and for everyone else. i am sure you will never lend your car to anyone even if they are nice. sad but comforting to know that there are nice people like Angel around. Nice job! I suspected the main relay when I read the headline, I thought the solder joints were cracked like on my dad's 01 odyssey van, which I reflowed solder into and make like new. Didn't think that the relay would be missing completely, but nice the way you showed your troubleshooting steps! I like that. Good Job with all the fixes, I love how thorough all your videos are! Keep up the good work bro! The guy who took the main relay should get a nice whooping, stay far far away from that guy.

This reminded me of when my brother broke on purpose my sister's Toyota camry distributor cap so it wouldn't start because according to him she owed him money. My sister lived at another city 3 hours away and needed to return that night. My mother beg my brother to fix her car or tell her what he did but he refused. My mother asked me to see if I could fix it. It took awhile and I got lucky and spotted at night the distributor cap was broken and he left it on like nothing wrong with it . My mother had to drive at night 40 minutes away to get a replacement and I swap them out. My sister left that same night for fear my hot head brother would do more damage. Not knowing my brother would pass away in a motorcycle accident he apologized for many hurtful thing he made our family go through.

Damn that guy really did his stuff... Not only did he fool you with the firing order, but even took the relay! Damn! He probably would've been severely overcharged if he took it to any other mechanic cuz they probably would've assumed the computer was bad lmao

Great fix. Just a side note if the ACG (s) fuse is blown the you will not have "engine dash light, or the green key light on the dash" and the car will not start. ( ACG stands for alternating current generator). 1999 Honda Ody. I replaced that fuse and Van started but now I seem to have a bad Alternator. Thats my next project on the Van.

I had a Friendemy similar the owner’s friend. I lone him my tools twice, Snap On tools. Never got it back than he asked to borrow my cell phone came back he broke the screen,than he asked to borrow money to go on a date three times $350 total never got a penny. Than he became homeless and asked if he could borrow $1500 for a hotel for one week. I got anything back, years later I asked him to pay ,his answer “You told me you helping me out because we’re friends!” That’s the last time I friend with him.

Sounds like he tried to blow the motor up on the way home from the knocking. Motor won't last long. I would take time to civil court for all the damage and labour to replace parts and engine.

It would have been an easy diagnostic if you just turn the key to ON and listen. You can hear the main relay click. No click, then bad relay or in your case no relay

At first, I thought it was the fuel pump and/or ignition system was the problem. But after you found out that main relay was missing, then I came to realize that whoever used that car before it had that issue should be given a slap on the face using a paddle...thanks for the informational video....

98-2003 Honda accords also have a Main ECU relay under steering column that solder joints crack in and can cause this same condition where fuel pump won't run and ECU is no longer communicating. Ah I see someone stole it.

Very good video Angel , now answer me this , I have the same v6 accord and in the summer of it’s been sitting in the heat it will not start just like this guys Honda , I have even replaced my fuel pump and main relay with a new one , I drive this car all winter long with no problems , or if I’m lucky I can park it in the shade in the summer it will start
