I noticed that too... but then again, it feels really awesome to build a flying machine and have it fly first try... I really love what these guys do for kids and for people who don't want to spend 10,000 bucks for a cool rc plane. not to mention how much you learn building your own
I built and flew hobby balsa kit planes like 30 years ago. I still have my channel 40 radio with the ribbons on the antenna somewhere. lol I want to get into this again with all this digital tech
There is something unique about Flite Test. They are truthful and humble when they could have been focusing on sales and drift away from their passion. I follow you since the beginning and religiously watched your content and I have to say, You are a true inspiration to the community, Thank you for your continuous dedication and thanks for sharing another great video. -Icarus
I've been a Flite Test lurker for a couple of years now. One of the things I like most about this group, besides the obvious technical aspects of their builds and attention to making sure that everything they do is attainable to the majority of enthusiasts, is the personal character and enthusiasm of the people themselves. They really do seem like very decent people who want everyone to find joy and camaraderie with family and friends via a common interest in a hobby.
Aloha. we have A-10 Warthogs here from Kansas City training with Marines. From the front the wings remind me of Corsairs. Watching this video is great.
Don't you mean a common interest in THE hobby. Is there any other hobby that compares to building and flying your own creations. Everyone should experience this. It's friggin' beautifull.
Important clarification on the gull wings of a corsiar: the choice of the wings was less due to the prop size, as such a prop was shared by several WW2 fighters, but rather due to the choice of having a thin fuselage, no wider than the engine size like as seen on Thunderbolts or Hellcats, and to keep the landing gear short so that they could double as dive flaps of all things! Telescopic gear existed at this point, but the designers had other things in mind. Credit for info goes to Gregs Automobiles and Airplanes channel.
Then, you can add decals for some of the better know Corsairs like "Lulubelle", Pappy Boyington's #86 or Ira Kepford"s #29 from the "Jolly Roger" squadron.
Anyone can tell me if this Corsair does have scaled aspect ratio? Looks like the wings are bit bigger and the rudder was redesigned. Anyone built it litter more scaled?
Please take a whistle off of a foam nerf football or something similar and put it on the Corsair so that it will whistle while flying by. Like the real deal
Beat me to the response! There are different sizes and styles of whistles in nerf products. The footballs sound louder, but the whistle design is bulkier. There are lower profile whistles in the Nerf Howler and also Nerf darts, but they have to travel faster than the footballs to make good sounds.
I have a balsa wood kit Corsair hanging on my home office wall. I built it with my dad over 50 yrs ago. It was a u-line plane with an Enya on it. Seeing yours fly was pretty emotional. Lots of memories Thanks for posting!
I didn't watch it at first, then I discovered it and got into it. Then it got cancelled after 2 seasons. I keep promising myself I'll pick it up on DVD. One day.
@@robertmiller5230 saw it in junior high... a bit that is. Was on near the same time as my Tuesday night catechism nights. From a 13 year olds peri that was a major suck!
If you're ok with difficulty, NerdNic has one in his "Beta Builds" section on his website. The speedwings are a lot more difficult than FT wings, but the end result is worth it in my opinion. From scratch, each wing takes me about an hour and thats after getting used to the process. If you have access to a print plotter, the plans can be much easier to make as well.
Wow! Guys you did it! I like the style of this plane. I may not know anything about names of other cool planes, you guys should make a double winged type
I love how approachable and inclusive you guys are, but you need to spend a little less time doing the "share and care" speeches every... single... video.... The people who subscribe to you are interested in the products, the projects, the building and the flying. You're not going to get big and stay big if literally 50% of every video is the same mission statement. I think the phrase "preaching to the choir" applies.
But that mission statement is Flite Test. The reason they're as big as they are (and they are huge in the industry) is because of that attitude. It's not a marketing statement or false platitudes, it's how they really are. They want to get more and more people into the hobby, bring people closer together, and enjoy the love of flight together. You'll see this when you meet them in person. To that end, I suggest everyone who can, goes to Flite Fest to experience the community in its proper form, first-hand. You'll get to enjoy the loving, open community and meet some of the most sincere men and women you'll ever know. Without the caring nature that they so freely and openly exhibit, there's a chance the community would revert back to the "old time" attitudes of elitist exclusion. So yeah, it is important that they say what they say but more importantly, they practice what they preach. It is exactly that, that has enabled and emboldened them to follow their vision to the point of buying a golf course to create a "Disney of flight," an airpark with the sole purpose of bringing people into the hobby and bringing communities closer together. You could say that that's their mission statement and flight is just the media they use.
@@kiethyrich yes, they definitely seem to be going through some different cycles of different types of videos. Honestly, winter is a poor time to judge their content anyhow because weather restricts flying/filming. Over the years, they've focused more on various types - like reviews, vlogs, introducing new kits, challenges, and maybe a few others. Everyone seems to have a favorite and most fans will at one point or other miss "the old Flite Test". I really hope they continue to put out some diversity in their video styles. While I don't care about the new DJI product, I can still learn something from watching their video on it -- or at least be entertained. On the other hand, I think I've watched the Simple Scout video more than a dozen times now.
The original version of the f4u was actually made with a small 3 propeller prop that had problems landing on carriers because of the stall and they gave the designs to the us marines who changed the prop and also took off the 6 50 cal. Machine guns and added 4 30mm Browning machine guns and then passed it back to the navy and then became one of the best fighter planes in ww2 in my opinion and even was used in early Vietnam so in general this is an amazing plane with a awesome history so just some fun facts!
Hey y’all, I’ve been a subscriber for over 5 years, I always love the videos, but lately I feel like every recent video is the same, I feel like your talking to beginners all the time, or maybe a little kid, I wish you would ‘cater’ (for lack of better words) to people that already know how to fly and have been watching the show for years. You could talk about the beginner aspect in a beginner airplane video, but on videos like these and videos that only a RC pilot would understand, I would enjoy having a more expert sounding video, I don’t need to know what an aileron or elevator is in every upload (sure you did not talk about that in this video, but that’s what I’ve seen in lots of recent videos) - sorry if I’m sounding like a hater, don’t worry I love the show, these are the things I’ve just been noticing But other than that I really like this F4U! Looks great and looks like it flys great, I might just get one for my self😉
True that. I still like FliteTest but I've began watching other more experimental rc channels. FT obviously also has some experimental videos but they're, don't know how to explain, very similar to each other as in "let's make [x] fly" and the x stands for tank, chair, car, you name it. While it's fun to watch it, I tend to skip to the end because there is no real new technical insight for me. Gone are the days where FT would strap a FPV cam on a plane and try to bomb something, nowadays it's only line of sight flying. Why not more FPV and GPS/automatic flying, long range autonomous flights with programmed waypoints. Maybe some high altitude flights, FPV cloud hopping or vertical take off/landing with a electric rocket like some other youtubers are trying?
I think that's just what flite-test is. There's already plenty of experimental type foamy channels. This group is here to get your feet wet in the hobby enough for you to branch out a bit to where you can feel comfortable with those more advanced channels and understand what they're doing. FT took off because of their support for entry level hobbyists and I think it would be a bit of a bad change of course to adjust their focus too much.
Have you done a JU-87 Stuka yet? Especially if you can get the "siren" effect! Although I'd love to see my father's airplane as a foam board electric. The name of the plane was "Duffy's Tavern" it was a B-17 from the 8th Airforce.
@@bepowerification I agree, they may be leaning a bit heavy on the sales, but still producing good content. My guess is there is a middleground we are in as they are expanding their brand, once it is self sustaining with sales numbers I wager they will be a little less heavy handed on marketing and get back to the shenanigans.
Ok fine!!! I'll subscribe!! Your vids keep popping up in my feed, and I cant stop watching them lol... i've never even been interested in this kind of thing but it's so darn intriguing xD Keep up the good work!
That is seriously impressive. I’ve been building FT planes with foamboard for a few years now, and while I love the material, the downside always seemed to be that there would always be flat surfaces, making scale a challenge. John’s ingenuity has provided an alternative, and that really looks good! BTW, I came within a couple of miles of meeting up with all of you in Fayette MO... the snowy roads decided otherwise. My car couldn’t make it up the last hill before the event. I was really sorry to miss out. Hope you can come back to Missouri one of these days!
Really great video, my all tile favorite plane is the Corsair followed by the B-17, You should make a 4 motor B-17!!!!!!, That would be an Awesome Video
I seriously did not knew we could buy those ,,,luckily now i know thanks😊, could u make a video on transmitter and aileron and rudder connection i mean do they come already made and jst to fix it or the transmitter is to be made by us
I love what you guys are all about. Thanks for making affordable designs and making them available (with everything you need to get started) so that we can enjoy as well!
wow first we get a big a10 now a corsair dam you guys are awesome and keep up the big war birds loving it and makes me want to put my quads down and build some of these just dont know what i want to build first
What would make a awesome video is to take a bunch of those corsair's you said you did and gather guys together so you can fly all of them at the same time in a Squadron. Have a couple of quads film it. That would be really really cool.
Thank you guys! You're amazing, thanks for Share with all the world your work, because of you i've been building some of my favorite planes which I never would have imagined to have.
FPV SKYWALKER CHALLENGE- re-create battle-star bombing run scenario by Luke with 'bomb-drop' & forced vertical climb, possibly being heckled by other planes on the approach. PS recently made my first plane- an FT Bloody Baron loving it. Thanks for your inspiration on here. :-)
Hey guys I love how much you’ve grown over the years, it’s really great. The one thing I’m not too much a fan of is the music. Could you guys add the old music to some of the new episodes, and kind of mix between the old and new music? It would give the full FliteTest feel to the episodes
How does this do when turning in 15mph winds? Oddly FliteTest recommend various flying wing designs, which in my experience are the worst possible choice. They turn into a kite when hit with a gust or when banking, and don't have elevators or rudders to regain control. They tend to enter into terrible dives or spins that are very difficult to pull out of. I would love some feedback!
Hi Guys, I came across this Kit at A-main Hobby and it is my favorite WW-ll aircraft, I plan on doing this one soon and I would like to add tilt & roll to the camera but I can't find anything for that evan the head tracker for Aomway commanders I can't find. Anyway I can't wait to build it.
That is beautiful plane ive followed you guys for years still not flying built a few planes just havent bought radio and other stuff hopefully one-day.. i stsrted following john on instagram because of the metal Corsair he built now hes heloing design for you guys thats so cool. I have been thinking about a DC-3 was going to maybe copy balsa model but i think his style could build nice one i wish i had his talent hopefully you guys will build one so i can buy kit from you..
