I always used this. The common term for this is coyote time. (Checked the description just now, already stated. Ledge tolerance is a new term for me though)
I always use this method. I discovered it accidentally when I had like 3 close calls on jump showdown. As I was falling I spammed jump and saw that I could jump mid air.

This is called “coyote time” it makes the game more enjoyable and is used in games like celeste to make long jumps easier and it’s subtle enough so the normal player wouldn’t notice it! I’ve even used it in a couple of my test games too!
