Part 2. You can install a third function valve on most any modern tractor. We did a DIY third function valve on our TYM Tractors T264 using the universal third function kit from Summit Hydraulics. Watch me as I figure out how to install this 3rd function valve kit in part 1.
Our end game is to use the Sub-Compact Tractor Mini Tine Grapple from Worksaver. It is a perfect match for the TYM Tractors T264.

Haha! "A good work bench is priceless" Couldn't agree more! So hard to find good heavy duty benches anymore.. The best work benches are the older ones from the 70s and 80s, they are getting so hard to come by tho.

Tony, I have to say a big thank you, for this two parts down to earth, and very explanatory video. I’m searching the web for more than a month, for a step by step of how to install, and how this systems work, and everyone so far, did a fancy video with many skips, just to show from packaged item received by mail, to the grapple at work in the field. So.. thanks you!! And you’ve definitely got a subscriber here. Looking forward for more videos.

Great Video, I’m in the process of installing W.R. Long third function kit on my T233. And, your videos have been a big help in planning out my next steps. I wanted to get the factory kit with the hard piping. But, when i called one of the TYM dealers, he had a W.R. Long kit for my T233, in an open box. He could guarantee that all of the small bits were ther but he would give me 25% off if i wanted it instead of teh factory kit. I figure for the $600 difference between the factory kit, and the W.R. Long kit, I can buy quite a few bits and pieces. While I wait for the kit to get here, I started by getting the joystick ready while I wait for the kit to show up. On my T233, the grip on the loader joystick, was a two part assembly, and when I undid the four screw which held the halves together I found that the shaft was hollow, and there was an adapter which the handle clamped onto with the bottom two screws which held the halves of the grip together. The grip had three bosses in the left half for three push buttons. I looked online and found the correct switches for the factory Nimco handle. They were $39/each.. So, went on line and ordered ten 8-mm compact monetary contact switches for $14, with free shipping. They fit right in the factory holes, and went in really easy. And, since I had extra switches, I added three to the right side of the grip, to operate with my finger tips, and a couple on the top, to run with my thumb. So, I now have an 8-button grip, which looks almost factory. I watched another poster do the install of a factory kit on a T25, and have decided that I want to run hard lines. Hopefully I will be blue to find a couple of 3/8 hard lines, and can get the loader part of the install done this weekend, if it doesn’t rain. If it is raining out, I’ll spend the weekend drawing up plans for a tractor shed. I’m thinking 12X18-ft so I don’t have to get a permit. And since it is going to be a sheathed pole barn, I can expand it easily in the future by just adding more 12X18 cells on the side. I need to get the shed built so I have somewhere to work on the tractor. Update, the kit showed up with the UPS truck, and I just checked it over. There is one screw missing.

For filling my GC1723EB’s hydraulic fluid; I got one of those cheap hand-operated piston-type fluid transfer pumps from harbor freight. Not only does it keep me from spilling, it also makes it much easier to use 5 gal. buckets of fluid.

Eh... personally, I’m not a fan of those “vampire” wire taps... my experience has been that they’re unreliable. I probably would have looked at the main fuse block to see if there was an unused fuse slot that I could have tied into; and failing that; another circuit that I could have tied into by soldering onto the wire.
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure 4 года назад
There are different quality wire taps. I buy the better quality ones, and I have yet to have one fail in this type situation where it is out of the weather. The ones bought at local parts stores are crap. The metal is cheap and they rust and get funked up quickly. I would have had to take the tractor apart to get to the back side of the fuse block. I am happy with how it turned out.

@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure 4 года назад
Casey, I went with one 96 inch hose and one 84 inch hose on the grapple. I have no idea what the part numbers were on the loader valve. I will tell you this. The end of the check valve is British Thread. That through me for a loop. There is probably ten ways to do this and they all would be right. In your loader manual, it has a diverter valve kit which I don't like. You will lose one function while the button is pushed. With a true third function kit, I can operate all three function at the same time, if I had any skill. LOL. I hope this helps you. Tony

Tony, first of all, what a great video on this install... I just bought the same grapple and plan to use it on a GC1725. So my question is, what kind of hoses do I need (1/2"?), and how long do I need them to connect to the cylinder, so I don't run into the problem of not being able to rotate the grapple down all the way?
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure 6 дней назад
That is an important question. I think 3/8 hoses will be fine. You will have to measure the hose link needed by rotating the grapple down and taking measurements. Give yourself a little extra.

I have the TYM T474 with the WR Long 3rd function kit. Dealer installed it with the WR Long joystick that came with kit very similar to your Summit kit. I didn’t like that and I was able to remove that joystick and use the factory joystick with the WR Long kit. It wired directly into the 3rd function valve. Is there a reason you did not try to keep the factory joystick and wire it directly to the summit valve?
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure 4 года назад
The T264 is not factory wired on the joystick. That is a nice feature on the T474. I really like how the factory kit can be installed in a matter of hours. WR Long makes a great kit too.
@genecarr4568
@genecarr4568 2 года назад
Hey Tony, playing catchup here. I have a new Mahindra 3650 and need to get a third function kit installed for my grapple. My local Mahindra dealer will only install a WR Long third function valve kit which is described as a "diverter" valve. My understanding is that diverts the hydraulics from one of the two loader functions, either the raise/lower or the dump/curl functions, meaning you lose one of those functions when operating the grapple open/close. It appears to me the Summit Third Function kit allows you to operate the grapple open/close without sacraficing either of the two loader functions. Is that a correct analysis? I don't want to install a WR Long kit if I cannot use all three functions at the same time. I think the Summit kit is more of what I want.
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure 2 года назад
You are on track. I don't care for a diverter valve for the reasons you mentioned above. The Summit kit is very straight forward.
