I purchased a plant from someone on reddit and they live in Ireland. They went out and foraged their own SPHAGNUM moss from the forest and now grows it, exactly like you. The first TEO times I bought plants from them I threw it away! 😫 then, with very little left, I noticed how gorgeous the quality was and asked the seller. That's when they told me to propagate it. This moss isn't even brown! It's a beautiful off white & green!
You could also do an Rhaphidophora Hayi also known as the shingle vine. They will creep up your walls and the leaves will lay flat in an alternating shingle pattern. The most damage they will ever cause to your wall is a bit of paint scraping if you were to ever remove them. Also while growing Ivy indoors the plant most likely wouldn’t fully mature, therefore causing little to no damage.
The visitor was a common woodlouse (oniscus asellus) if anyone was curious. They are easy to keep and breed if anyone is interested in growing a colony
I'm just wondering, if i live where winter is really cold, and i pick up moss outside, will it live or it'S tyhe type of moss that needs to "sleep" during winter
No, because springtails and isopods block mould growth by different niches. The springtails prevent mould by eating fungal growths, isopods consume the detritus before the mould can fully form. You can't depend on isopods alone to stop mould.
It depends on the species, most in the Armadillidium genus have more of an apetite for live growth but others will often only consume already weakened or dead moss matter. This type of feeding can actually be beneficial in the long term because it helps avert some of the growth of mould as well. Inform yourself on the species or genus before allowing isopods in, or do regular monitorings on the box to observe their behavior directly. Be careful about checking too regularly though, too many surveillances can stress the bugs out.
