Small hint for using shared inventory slots for tools: [3:40] Keep some ordinary tools (any kind) equipped on all your characters. Now, when you log in, you can swap them with your unbreakable tools by double-clicking on those tools in your shared inventory. When you are ready to logout, double-click the ordinary tools now in shared inventory, and this will replace the unbreakable tools. This is easier than opening your equipment panel and using the mouse to put back your unbreakable tools, and uses no inventory space.

@@stfxdude This assumes you have several characters and only one set of unbreakable tools. Using shared inventory to store them, and putting them back in shared inventory whenever you logout, assures you can easily use them with all your characters.

Hitting up large ore clusters of any material lets you use the glyph of volatility very well. If you don't have an unbreakable tool, but got lucky and managed to get a glyph on the TP or through black lion chests, then using the glyph on a breakable tool works fine. It pops out when the tool breaks, it's not lost.

@@miwimarmer232 honestly I bought volatile magic tools on the gem store. That is the easiest way to do it when they are in the gem store. Saves you the gold for the glyph and the statuettes as well. Otherwise you could buy unbreakable tools on the gem store and the glyphs with gold.

I did a small reddit double check and the fastest tools are: consortium sickle/fire sickle, unbound log cutter and unbound mining tool if you interrupt the animation by moving.

Another min-maxing trick to save potentially a lot of gold.: if you want the most efficient Volatile Glyphs it might be cheaper (and definitely is at the time I post this) to NOT buy them from the TP, but instead convert gold into gems and buy a set of unbreakable tools. These come with a glyph selection box (wich wasn't the case earlier). At this time 3 Glyphs of Volatility are around 1.1k gold on the TP. If you convert around 830 gold to gems you get 2.4k gems wich buys you an unbreakable set with glyphs. AND you get a new skin.

If you're not yet ready to get the unbreakable tools, you can still purchase consumable tools that have glyph effects from gathering tool vendors using karma! For example, Galad in the Grove has a second tab of items for sale with tools that have bonus leather, ore, wood and other gathering bonuses. They are a little over 7k karma each. Additionally, *volatile magic* consumable tools can be purchased from certain heart vendors in Path of Fire, like Terra in the Atholma Village in Sandswept Isles - just remember that since PoF hearts are repeatable, you'll have to re-do the heart to be able to buy from her again. The volatile magic ones cost 4.9k karma.

3:47 I keep a full set of orichalcum gathering tools on all my characters so if I double click on the unbreakable tool in the shared account slot, it swaps to that and I don't have to drag and drop everything. This way if I don't have the infinite gathering tool equipped, the material isn't ruined and no special animation plays, so I can interrupt myself and equip the proper tool. You can equip and unequip glyphs at any time you like so you can i.e. swap between 50% faster gathering speed and gathering bonus materials. My mine-r-tron mines underwater nodes at 3 ore/sec speed.

@3:50 to further improve ease of use: make sure your alts have at least some harvesting tools equipped as placeholders. This way, when you swap to the unbreakable tools, and you want to swap back, you just click the same shared inventory slots again. Otherwise you have to open equipment, find the tools at the bottom right. It's a small thing, but I personally hate having to do this :)

After gathering tools, you can boost your gathering scheme even further. Quickness hastens gathering; attack speed affects gathering, hence a Warrior or Mesmer with the corresponding trait that increases their attack speed will gather faster than others. (c)

Your character must be a chef; training from 400-500 in chef will give you a home garden plot, an chef master npc and access to your account bank inside your home instance via the cooking station. Great video Muk! One extra tip I have is that I keep a set of orichalcum gathering tools in my shared inventory and equip those by double clicking then when I switch toons because it puts my unbreakables directly into the shared inventory slot for me without having to unequip and move them. 😘

They can yes, but they also have less charges per tool so you will need more of them of that particular type. Small downside but something to be aware.

Another tip on swapping between toons. Keep a copper (or any set on all toons). When you equip from shared inventory it will swap them out, so whem you are ready to log out you can easily swap them again and they go right back into your shares inventory all from inventory panel.

You can also buy a glyph from the trading post and use it on the breakable tools. After it breaks, the glyph returns to the inventory. If you only have enough gold for one glyph, you can always remove the glyph from whatever tool it is on, and equip it on the tool you're about to use.

Since I have bought infinite tools, cant imagine playing without anymore. But as I am poor, i have got Tissu and Leather glyph on my tools. + Tips, if you cant buy a lot of gems, if you wait for the anniversary of Gw2, you can get a promotion for the basic infinit tools, at only 1200 gems for the pack of 3 without glyph, when you would need 1000 gems for 1 tool, with or without the glyph depending of the skin

After years of not playing, not even the expansions, i came back this year to see i had 80 winter tools from back in the day, and snowflakes are at 1 silver each. So i basically get 1 extra silver per gathering strike.

A fun fact that Muk didn't get into is that you can get a glyph first and put it onto a orichalcum tool and even if you use said tool up it will just deposit itself into your inventory to be re applied. So if you luck out in drops from BLC or buy off the market you can instantly use said effect without having to wait for perma tools.

Nice video thanks! You can also use Karma to buy orichalcum tools from vendors that have the glypha attached but you can't remove the glyphs on those. in LV season 4 I I think these are vendors for it.

If you don't want to use gems, but have a lot of karma, you can buy lots of Volatile or Unbound breakable ones. I have dozens of them on my toon parked at a farming spot.

If you have more karma than gold you can also buy a number of gathering tools with the same effects as the glyphs from various merchants. I personally prefer using this to pick up reaping tools so I can mass harvest flax/elder wood from the farms for those materials. Though you only get 25 uses of the tool instead of the normal 50 and the karma price is a bit much if you buy them in mass like I do.

I still like the Glyph of Bounty for plants. (33% for extra strike.) Every little bit helps when trying to get Freshwater Pearls. Maguma Lilies, Varietal Seeds on Herbs, and always your Asc. Cultivated Plants in your Home Instance garden.

Small tip for lower level players. The first tools that MukLuk mentions are limited to your character level. For example you need to be level 60 for the Orichalcum tools. Unbreakable tools do NOT have this limitations. So if you plan to harvest higher tier materials (for example through visiting someone's home instance) Unbreakable tools are a great investment since a level 2 can gather everything then.

**amendment** The frostbitten gathering tools have the same gathering level as orichalcum and infinite tools but is only a level 15 requirement. If you happen to have Frostbitten Toolboxes saved from a few years back, this is a great source. You can also sometimes get them from the Star of Gratitude empyreal fragments eater. Obvs. the infinite tools are a better option (with no level requirement) if you are willing to spend gems; though I'm not sure if there's an infinite tool with a snowflake gathering glyph.

I find that the Tireless Harvesting Minion sickle seems to complete the gather at about 50%, which you can then interrupt by moving. Fastest one I've tried so far!

Kind of a missed opportunity to also toss in discussion on extra gathering strikes and stacking boosters/guild boost ;3 Also the karma vendor tools for a way to get "glyphs" without the gold (and the fact that the unbound/volatile karma purchased tools exist but must be purchased in the respective LW maps).

There is an extra layer to the harvesting tools, that doesn't seem to be talked about. If you take the Unbound Magic Harvesting Blast (which can harvest nodes up to 3 times per animation) and skin it with the Consortium Sickle (which has the fastest animation) then you get a sickle that harvests 3 nodes with 1 fast animation. You can then add a Volatile glyph to max it's efficiency.

key farm weekly for the level 10 story one, you can also get one at the 40 and 60 story. Map complete a zone when doing a key farm, for a 25% chance at a key too. Past that, spend $$ to buy keys and open chests.

I did buy unbreakable tools on first release years ago and have been wondering how worth would be to buy extra ones just for the skin/animation speed. What use case scenario would justify that? converting with the current rate, one tool is 339 gold. Also, what's the best skin to have for all of 3?

here for the algorithm... i think if you are going to buy one of the unbreakable tools it should be the unbound magic or volatile magic as they give you the most useful glyphs... personally i have bought two random unbreakable tools with my statuets after a lot of grind :)

I've got a set of each, and swap between them depending on which area I'm doing. If I'm going to be in an area that unbound magic is needed, I'll switch over to the unbound tools.

If you are not very lucky opening BL chests then keep an eye on the TP prices. The prices of the glyphs that are in the monthly BL chests usually drop hard during that month.

I use the 33% to strike again glyph on my harvesting tool when winter berries farming - I also add the 20% gathering biff from my guild. - and if a guild banner is up I click that. With the glyph I average 60-80 berries a run! For months I berrie farmed with a diff rent glyph on and would only get 35-55 a run. It’s mind blowing not with that glyph on how many berries I can get across 9 characters

I use volatile/unbound gathering tools and no guild hall buffs when gathering winterberries and always get over 50 berries. If someone has placed a banner I use that and always get above 60. There are 42 nodes in total and you are guaranteed to get one berry per node (and a chance of 1-2 extra berries or 3-6 dragonite ore), so if you are getting less than 42 you are missing nodes. Also, if you run clockwise you will complete Sun Warming heart (+5 extra berries) from destroying the ice pillars and killing a couple of trolls/wolves along the route without spending a bunch of extra time or deviating from the path.

Ohhhhh I coulda been using my faster one for my volatile magic farming all this timmeeee I have the Thresher sickle 5000 since like, forever ago, but once Volatile magic tools came on sale bought that and had to stop using its super faster gathering speed.... wish I saw this vid sooner!

They REALLY need to fix the harvesting tool consistency. They did it for the ore tools (while breaking how they work underwater in the process). Equip regular tools to each character so that when you equip unbreakable tools from your shared slots, it makes swapping faster.

My tools -from the gemstore - dont seem to have any glyph slots, does that mean i cant glyph them, or do glyph slots not show up on any tools?

All gem store tools have glyph slot, you may have bought the ones that don't have glyph in them already, but you can still buy glyph from trading post and add them to the tools.

So good job i checked Anyway yes the ones i bought are Volatile Magic, i was thinking of re-glyphing either the Mining or Lumber one to be Unbound Magic, as im still a bit unsure which gives best value (for buying Trophy bags etc, it seems most of those use Unbound, and im not really certain of which Volatile "bag" is best for turning back into gold But i can figure that out with one of the websites Thanks again for replying and explaining ❤

I'm happy that I bought the correct unbreakable tool kit, but IMHO I will not bother to min max it, the legendary trinkets you said "Its too much work", "i've a life", I dont think that applies to the legies but for this kinda use, yeah, too much work for the gathering process.

Sometimes they go on sale for about 20-30 statues. Just keep an eye on the statue items and do some key farming/WC/gold farming to buy them of the Gemstore in advance.

If you did that the unbound glyph would pop out of the unbound tool and you would have the graphic of the unbound tool with the income of the volatile glyph, as well as an unbound glyph sitting in your bag.

This seems like you're wasting transmute charges needlessly. If you can freely swap the unbound magic glyph into the molten sickle tool, then what point does transmuting serve?

You can do that also, but if you transmute the non-fused sickle into a fused sickle you now have two, and can use it on another character if you wish.

Wait! Don't transmute your tools! If you transmute a tool with the skin of another, you destroy one of the tools. So if you transmute your Fused Molten Sickle (FMS) to your Volatile tool to get the increased speed of the animation, you destroy the FMS. Better to pop the Glyph of Volatility off your other tool and apply it to your Fused Molten Sickle. (If there is already a glyph on your FMS, it goes into your inventory.) Now you have a FMS with the Glyph of Volatility, but you haven't destroyed your other unbreakble tool. Also, this way you can apply the glyph from an axe or mining pick to a sickle.

I... honestly have no idea what you are talking about. I have a fused molten sickle, and I transmuted my volatile gathering tool to use the appearance of FMS and I still have the FMS. I never lost one.

I'm sorry Muk, I've been sworn to secrecy, but the does exist a bug between a certain gathering tool and glyph which causes FOR EXAMPLE a harvesting plant normally yields 1-2 things.... with this secret combo....up to 6 things each with a chance of being a rarer material. All I'll say is that it exists.
