@@excalibur493 Don't forget it also sucks to shiny hunt them or zangoose in certain areas of X and Y due to the unique (yet frustrating) way that they bully each other in horde battles
Playing competitive Pokémon at all in that era was a “yeah I’ve got money” move. People didn’t get sponsored so they had to pay all their travel expenses and if they wanted a competitive team they needed to spend around 600 on all the games and consoles and accessories of the time. Not to mention the amount of free time you would need to train all the Pokémon as well.
Poison fang is my all time favourite move. Low damage of 50 but a 50/50 chance of giving the badly poisoned toxic effect. If you’re playing the emerald battle tent, the best Pokémon to use are seviper and Golbat as they both have it.
@Dank A Toxic spikes didnt exist until gen 4. Even though barely any pokemon got it. Battle tent you have to rent pokemon so you don't get to choose moves so you gotta use things like a premade Mightyena and Golbat and whatnot.
You indeed can. Golbat learns poison fang at level 49, and level 48-50 Golbat with poison fang can be found on Sky Pillar in either version. Once you find one, you can use Smeargle to sketch poison fang, and, since Smeargle and Mawile are from the same egg group (field), you can get poison fang on Mawile while only having pokemon ruby.
It also happens in Gens 4 to 7. In gen 8 only in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, since Mawile is in Sword and Shield while Seviper does not. And in Gen 9 it's (currently) impossible because Seviper is in Scarlet and Violet while Mawile does not.
Or game freak needs to get their head out of their asses and actually add in all pokemon. Like imagine paying $60 for a game that you can't even have all pokemon in.
Regarding the anime picture of Seviper used here: How in the hell did its body suddenly become an extra mile long in order to curl itself up like that??
@@ashikjaman1940 you're right. I was so glad they gave her a mega evolution to make up for her terrible stats and the form is even cuter than *cough* *cough* mega Lopunny and Gardevoir IMO.
I had like 4 buddies in school during Gen 3-5, and since neither of us had a trading cable, all we could do was show off our PC boxes. 😅 Then Diamond/Pearl came out, and we spent hours connected in the Underground 🤩
gen 3 really didnt think through the pokemon distribution. at least emerald has both and I think gale of darkness has a shadow mawile that gets poison fang
Kinda like how Kirlia can learn Magical Leaf in gen 3 only if you own a Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald and either Fire Red or Leaf Green because it can only learn Magical Leaf in FRLG
Wouldn't have known. Breeding for egg moves left such a bad impression that most never bothered. Like in Gold and Silver, all three starters were clearly meant to be replaced by their offspring. And if they could learn moves they lacked from breeding, they'd be overpowered. You'd be right. But the lengths you gotta go through to figure out WHICH pokemon to do it with , HOW to make it work, and KNEW how to hatch eggs (and get used to not flying), made egg moves not worth the time or made you quit trying without learning the truth. I don't think even the Japanese kids handled this any different. It most certainly didn't help with the small and strangely specific pool of egg moves can be learned at all back then.
Looking at the level-up movesets compared to the egg moves for Pokémon like Natu, wooper the Gen 2 starters, Teddiursa and Phanpy makes me think this is the cold truth. It even looks like they carried it over to Gen 3 with some early game mons like Seedot, Lotad, Nincada and Skitty as they have much better egg movepools than level up.
"You had to own both games" You people know that the point of the twin versions was never "buy both" but, "interact with other kids and exchange pokemon"? You weren't supposed to buy sapphire if you had ruby, you were supposed to find someone with sapphire and get a seviper from them...
As I'm working on a GBA Livingdex for in Home I would love to see a list of all these unique moves and how to get them. Where do you get this interesting info?
it buffed even more tho, we still don’t have a good physical ghost, electric or flying move that isn’t a sig move/ only good on some mons like acro. same goes for special fairy and rock seeing as the only mons that get moonblast are mostly fairies meaning that mons that want the coverage are stuck w/ gleam and power gem is mostly on mons that don’t want it so ultimately, what’s the point of a phys/special split if ur not gonna make new moves to take advantage of it
There's so many better examples of Pokemon that need to be *chain bred* (As in, breed the egg move to one Pokémon, then to another, then to the goal Pokémon) between two versions or even two generations just to gain access to one specific move.
Wait where can you find mawile in Pokemon emerald? I didn't even know that Pokemon existed until the gen6 remakes because I only had Sapphire and emerald and never saw that thing
Im looking at this video and seeing some comments and I kinda feel like im loosing my mind? It feels like people are making this out as an “error in design” but I swear I remember pokemon trading being a thing with this Gen and Ive traded a bunch between my friends. Am I making up this memory?
you can teach it to crobat (flying group), breed it to togetic (flying/fairy group), then breed that to mawile (ground/fairy group). this took 10 mins to check Check replys
Fun fact in omega ruby and alpha sapphire u can get a rlly rare and hard to get froaki i think near the first 2 or 3 routes after u get ur starters pretty cool if u ask me
You can trade within certain groups. So since the 'field 2' egg group contains both wailord and skitty they can mate! I don't know if the egg still always turns out the same species as the mother tho
@@bartimaeu1 yeap, starter Pokemon always have a huge weight skewing towards being male, so that you usually can't get more of them unless you also have access to a ditto. >:(
This is false you did not need to own both you could simply own one game and trade with someone who owns the other. Literally the entire gimmick of of the Pokémon franchise is trading with friends.
Or you know because they want to sell reskinned versions. Like the newer ones have done a better job at it being just slightly different enough but the old version's weren't at all.
Oh. My god. I genuinely thought this video was a joke for a second until I read the comments. I grew up with Pokemon, and while the first game I played all the way through was Black, I still played the older games a lot. And I am just now learning that mawile wasn't introduced in like gen 5 or 6. You've absolutely blown my mind today sir, I feel like an idiot.
Poison fang is my all time favourite move. Low damage of 50 but a 50/50 chance of giving the badly poisoned toxic effect. If you’re playing the emerald battle tent, the best Pokémon to use are seviper and Golbat as they both have it.
