Hey friends🐻, this tutorial covers EVERYTHING I know about painting water, but if there's a technique you want more information on, please ask it here in the comments. I made this tutorial because I wanted to pass on all the things I've learned over the years so that you can do more art. I hope you enjoy this moist tutorial. It is the most comprehensive guide I've published on this channel, and it took me weeks of nonstop work. Extra thanks to my boss/producer Vivi, who inspired the first half of this. She sometimes turns a game of fetch into maximum zoomies when she realises that she is, in fact, speed. (That's why I hid a rubber ducky in the painting.) She would absolutely not get her royal white socks wet on her own, though. At this time of year, she expects me to carry her over any and all puddles.💖🐾 p.s. Vivi is seen with Will at the end. Even though I worked on this tutorial to be as concise as possible for you guys, those few seconds with the puppers are just for me. 🐕🐕🦺
I would probably start by using that caustics trick texture as a copied canvas mask, unblinking the mask and the moving the layer itself with a liquify tool. Not sure if that would work but I can try. Haven’t done a sandy piece in a while 🧐 would be nice to try something less moist for once. 🌴
The small ripples are the hardest but once you start looking at them as those 3 mirrors then all reflections even on big waves can be broken into same segments. After that it is a lot easier to end up with super moist paintings. 🐻
Haven’t set stuff on fire in a while, I wonder if I could combine all of these suggestions into one. Like a burning castle in a foggy rain or something 🔥
This is the my moist favorite water tutorial now 💙 def need to watch this a few times and get some practice in. i really enjoy your teaching style, thank you!!
Moist. Please do a tutorial about simple easy beginner landscapes with “step 1, do blank”. Castles and medieval stuff please. Thank you Mikko. ❤ Your show.
I think this is a good idea, but I’m afraid it might not be what people expect. Often a working artist just gets to work in the morning. Inspiration is fantastic when it happens but when it doesn’t there are multiple safety nets one has to rely on to get things done.
@@angrymikko I'd love to learn about the safety nets you can fall back on when you don't know where to start. I'm just a hobby artist myself and while it's freeing to be able to draw or paint whatever I want sometimes opening up a blank canvas and knowing what to draw seems impossible. Thanks again for all the awesome content!
Thanks Mikko, this was a very timely and excellent tutorial. I was trying to paint a river scene plein air but I know I didn't get the water looking half as moist as it should have been. Such a cute flying forest sausage 🤣
I think I might have an additional dog tube to take care of in a few days for someone who needs a dog sitter. Can’t wait to witness all the drama and chaos they can get into with 2v1. If I ever quit this art business you’ll know I finally made it as a professional dog assistant☝️✨
Sorry that was bit hidden in the middle at 7:12 Here is an expanded explanation: -Canvas Alla Prima (all of the main shapes + planning, water splashes, droplets all details) -Soft Mix on Canvas (all smooth transitions where Alla Prima wasn't suitable for both for blending) -Coarse Big Spray (texture of the crest) -Cloud Weaver (you can get this for free on my Gumroad page [all clouds, fur details and texture, also was surprised that it works well for those long wave shapes too 🌊]) The second painting is Blueberry brush except foam in the waterfall is the same Coarse Big Spray from the graphic illustration set. Btw ANY spray works just as well there are plenty of free ones in Procreate that are good too. The only thing I’d recommend is staying away from the softer looking ones. You don't want to accidentally make one area of a painting look like it's airbrushed. If the spray feels a bit too rough, It is probably perfect for moist stuff ;)
I have a whole art course on gumroad. It comes with brushes and 2 complete projects. 1st one is basics on colour and composition and 2nd part is building on fundamentals with the design and construction of an illustration broken down to tutorials. The expansion I added this year is over 5 hours of additional material 🐻 link to my gumroad shop is in the description☝️ I will always keep doing these moist tutorials for free too🌊
To make this tutorial as helpful & moist as possible, I kept it on the topic. I could do a corgi tutorial, but honestly, I need to do a whole lot more corgi art before I can speak from a perspective of experience. 🐾
