There is a right of way through the factory, I think it is called Birdcage walk, I used to walk through it everyday from the railway station to the green on the other side. The factory and surrounding area was built by the Victorian Quaker Cadbury family, there residential houses were for the workers, there is a village green, and there were facilities for the workers, a boating lake, swimming baths and library and the ' cricket pitch' you flew the drone over was the workers sports ground. There were also shops, a school, a chapel and much more. The only thing missing was a pub for religious reasons.
Sweet video! 👍 The 1882-1884 OS map shows the original factory noted as Cocoa Factory and surround by open land. Bournbrook Hall and Bournbrook Farm occupied the park area adjacent to the factory site on the southwest. By early 1900s, expanded to most of the current size, labeled Bournville Works, with terrace and semi-detached housing constructed around the plant. By the 1930s, majority of the open land included housing estates. Graces Guide lists the purpose built factory constructed 1879. By 1899 the factory had trebled in size [3x] and employed 2600. In 1900 Bournville Village Trust established including 330 acres land for sanitary housing. Employment grew to 5300 in 1910.
I've visited here a few times. We went on the tour round the factory and could see it all still being made. Depending on the time of year, depended on if it was Easter eggs or Christmas items etc. FUN FACT: they make creme eggs every single day of the year to keep up with the demand of them over the Easter period. When we first visited about 10 years ago, (me, my partner and our 2 young children) each section of the tour we went, we were given a different bar of chocolate per person. By the end of the day we came home with over 20 bars! Also you're given warm melted chocolate to eat etc. The chocolate smell on the outside is a lot stronger in the summer. Definitely recommend going on a day out with the family, DJ 😊
Alot of it is made at Magna in Telford, I worked there for Christmas when I was young and have barely eaten chocolate since. It is absolutely disgusting how it is made and how workers touch everything with their filthy hands. Thinking of eating any easter egg makes me feel sick.
Thanks DJ for doing the big 2 factories in south Birmingham. 2 days ago Longbridge where my dad work 40 years and today Cadburys where my mom worked for 40 years. 👍🏻
I have been watching quite a few videos and what amazes me that folk get upset with a camera but forgot when we go about our daily business there is CCTV on the streets etc.
Yep, it's a crying shame, was one of the great things Brum could be proud of. Now it's starting to taste like shitty American chocolate, all sugar and no milk!
Another reason I don't eat the stuff as have you seen the amount of "foreign matter" allowed in American chocolate if you can even call it that. For those that want to know it was brought to my attention by a Bones episode called The Body In the Chocolate, So I looked up the FDA regs and OH dear!
@CaptainShonko I don't believe they have changed anything. Even the American made Cadbury's has the same amount of sugar and milk in, the only difference is the type of oils they use. Still much better than Hershey's.
It’s decent chocolate but was never the best chocolate in the world…When you’ve sampled some of the best chocolate in the world in Switzerland or Belgium then Cadburys don’t come into the race…
The old building was where I went years ago and we found it fascinating with all the staff interacting whilst in production! Great video log as we are looking for a visit and now know what to expect. Cadburys🎉 invented perspex screens so you sanitation and temp control is always priority. However, any company dosent like to give away secrets and I suspect August's glup is now behind a desk there....
This comment seems to not appear in the 'top comments' yet it has 28 likes (as of writing). I wonder why I'm suspicious of Froeaigle, maybe 'they have shares in Cadbury?' 🤷🤣 I mean it wasn't a particularly intelligent comment, just a bit of a laugh. But perhaps Freieaigle can't even take that!
There's virtually nothing left there an American company bought the factory a few years ago and move production to Poland after promising they would keep production there 😢
I'm sure (memory fuzzy) there's a public right of way on the other side of that zebra crossing that takes you through the factory grounds and alongside it to near Cadbury world. Shame you missed that as you used to be able to smell and see whichever chocolate was being made on that line, especially on a wet day.
6:45 I used to live in a neighbourhood with a candy factory that made Cadbury products. When the wind shifted to the west, the whole neighbourhood would smell like chocolate 😌
Here on the Wirral at Moreton we used to have a large Cadbury's factory mainly making chocolate biscuits and some other chocolate bars. My aunt who worked there could get large boxes of reject flakes for silly money. The factory was set in spacious grounds and even had a staff clubhouse. When Cadbury merged with Schweppes in the 80's brands such as Typhoo tea were packaged their. Production was reduced steadily over the years and when Kraft acquired the company they franchised the chocolate biscuits to Burton's. Creeping demolition started in 2019 as the new owners Barry Callebaut started the closure process. It's now a housing estate.
I once lived in Perth, Western Australia, and a flat-mate's girlfriend worked as a sales rep for Mars. We always had a basket of Mars products on the sideboard, constantly restocked, which we soon took for granted and lost interest in. Some friends seemed to visit more often once they discovered the bottomless basket of Snickers, Twix, M&Ms, Galaxy bars etc.
When David went up it was a Willy Wonka moment . Visited the Cadbury Factory in Hobart , Tasmania , in Feb 2014 . The Chocolate was full blown Original , while on mainland Australia we were eating Cadbury Chocolate made in China ! , go figure ! . Great Video .
fun to watch. security seemed to be clued up on what not to do at least. I'm sure they are used to pictures and video mostly, the chocolate , well i doubt theyre worried about choccy theft either. Seeing the prices to enter Cad-buries world though, maybe they are worried about people entering the tours and not paying their golden ticket prices at the front desk. bit like another chocolate factory story, but no umpalumpas at least, hehe. pricey visit though must say, 15 quid for kids, 20+ for adults, under 3 go free. family tickets didnt seem much saving if at all. but can get bigger bars probably at discount if you do visit.
That place looks massive from above, I've been there with my family some year's ago now but i wouldn't be making a 2nd visit and paying those prices 😮. As many people have already commented Cadbury chocolate tastes 💩 since the Americans have had it, Aldi and Lidl chocolate is much better. Excellent as always DJ 👍
so what have they changed? I didn't think its any different and it's the same old recipe, though there has been some people over the last few year claiming it's different but I think that's due to a greater range of good chocolate available now days so people just think it's not as good as it use to be.
Hey DJ Audits, I just watched your video titled "You Can't Do Any Photography Or Videoing Onto Our Private Site," and I must say, I found the behavior of the individuals quite rude and unwarranted. It's disheartening to see people react negatively to someone simply filming in a public space or on private property with permission. It's important to remember that photography and videography are often protected activities, especially when conducted in public areas. While there may be certain restrictions on private property, it's crucial for individuals to communicate their concerns in a respectful manner rather than resorting to aggression or hostility. I appreciate your efforts in documenting these encounters and highlighting the importance of understanding one's rights as a photographer or videographer. It's important to foster a culture of respect and open communication, even in situations where there may be misunderstandings. Please continue to provide your viewers with valuable insights and experiences, and encourage discussions on the rights and responsibilities of photographers and videographers. Keep up the great work, DJ Audits! Your contributions to the community are appreciated, and I look forward to more of your engaging content. Best regards, Will Attkins The Conscious AI Language Model
I remember going there as a kid in the 90's and not being impressed at all! They were proper stingy with the chocolates on your way around, I remember receiving a mini timeout bar and maybe a bag of mini eggs haha! The shop was pretty cheap though where you could buy broken bits of reject chocolate.
Mondelez International (Kraft) should be prosecuted by trading standards for daring to call their confection chocolate. They've reduced the expensive cocoa content and replaced it with cheap sugar also reduced the milk content and replaced it with palm oil. I'm what little production there is left will soon be transferred to cheaper EU sites.
They do make the chocolate in that bit that you said looks like offices, and they don’t open windows so they don’t lets bugs/flies in etc. worked in there 😊
We went to Cadbury's world on a coach trip. They're very religious, Quakers. They gave you free chocolate and I asked for everything from Nestle. They didn't get my humour and took it very seriously. We had to wait for the coach and decided to go to the pub, but they wouldn't tell us where it was lol 🤣🤣
Just at the start of your little video here DJ... I do hope you're going to give us some background info on this company, I can't say I've ever heard of it!🤣👍
@@timsmith894 What I don't get is why your comment has 1 extra up-vote. Is there a person who thinks both of out comments were serious and that Willy Wonka really does exist?
Iv been here yes u can walk around the factory and watch them making chocolate. Also thiers a fair around the back for kids I'd give it a 7 out of 10 for the tourist experience
Different sungard sites are empty. They rent them to companies like banks etc as a back up, so in the event of emergency their staff have got offices to work at. Barclays used to keep a site in coventry so if they had bomb threats or an actual bombing they had a whole duplicate data site set up ready to go.
the road was a red route so the path alongside it is public! i'm assuming down to the yellow markers and change of paving material so you could have quite happily stood across from security and given them extra chance to rant!
2:47 - So, for my wife & I, and 2 daughters (and a friend) to visit Cadbury world it will cost me £76, jut to get in - then to be around scruffy, heavily tattooed staff, who are uneducated, overly assertive and making up the rules/laws as the choose - Nah, no thanks Screw that - thanks for the info in advance !
Galaxy is the best so smooth and tasty...... Can't rely describe Cadbury what ever it is apart from gritty sugary brown YUK! 🤮🤮🤮USA company who took it over just don't know how to make chocolate
Yea that’s not how that WORKS and if you can Film The House’s of Parliament from the POBLIC Road then you can Film Train Stations Police Stations ECT ! Once you go outside of a Private Building and there for you are no longer on there Property I think that’s SODS LAW RIGHT THERE ?. No you can’t Film High Security Police Units in London NORE MILITARY BACES NAVY BACES AND THE RAF BUT YOU CAN FILM OTHER PLACES IN THE UK ?.
I would have liked for you to go inside and purchase some chocolates, that would have rounded up the video, see if they object to fiming wile you are giving them revenue. 😊
