Thank you for uploading this. Jenkins was my professor at university. His total humanity, compassion and sense of justice outshone even his great intellect. I am proud to have known him, and only wish that more church people would be like him.
This is a perfect example of how important it is to examine the facts. The newspaper industry's motto of 'Never let the truth get in the way of a good story' has shown once again how their vitriolic lies can ruin a person's reputation not just for their life time but for the lifetime of the recipients. It's a well known truth that 'Mud sticks'. I had for several decades held the ardent belief, as propagated by the media, that the Durham Bishop David Jenkins was wholly heretical in his views of God and the Christian Tenets. Watching videos like this one has clearly helped to dispel such myths. Such is the Christian faith and following, it can be all too easy to cling to misinterpretations and misquotes. Of course, one should always be wary when it appears the press are suddenly on board in the defence of Christianity. And perhaps that should have been the early warning that should have been heeded. Thank you for uploading this. I would have liked to see his interview that caused all the furore. In my research I have unfortunately discovered, since, an undeniable display of former Bishop David Jenkins liberalism in regard to the Christian faith by his officiating at the blessing of a civil partnership between two homosexuals, one of which was an Anglican Minister. This is truly disturbing. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1506074/Church-blessing-for-homosexual-vicar.html
Of course, up until the 1930 Lambeth conference took it upon itself to deny that non-procreational sexual acts were sin, your kind would haved faced the choice of celibacy or procreation. You quite cheerfully condone and engage what was (for nearly 1930) years considered marital fornication by utilising what for the same period of time were considered to be agents of "pre-conceptual murder". So who are you to judge anyway?
The debate on sexuality in the Church is a matter of labels, politics, and identification. Sexuality becomes a shibboleth for testing whether one is Orthodox or not. Jesus never placed sexuality as the key tenant of faith, he obviously pronounced on marriage, but he did place loving ones neighbour as the second greatest commandment. It is the keeping of these two commandments, Love God, Love neighbour as the shibboleth of our faith. The rest we have to discern with the Bible in our hands and our eyes seeing the humanity of the people we have in front of us.
I suggest you read his book "Free to believe" rather than believe what gets reported by journalists, who often seem only interested in reporting the bits that sells their article.
