EA shutting down the game for Steam Deck users is exactly why we need Stop Killing Games, Bill. I'm surprised you haven't made a video about them yet or invited one of the organizers for an interview or podcast.
I primarily play on Steam Deck these days. If a game doesn't support playing on Steam Deck, I'll probably consider not buying it at all. That's how much I enjoy playing my Steam Deck device.
@@LordVodka313 Same! Have a Series X and a PC with a high end RTX gpu.... cancelled my GamePass about 6 months ago, though, and haven't turned on my console for months because 80% of my gaming is on Steam Deck these days.
Just don't buy EA games. I don't like them dictating what OS/Hardware I must use, make it work or you don't exist in my world. If they don't give a shit that makes the two of us.
Many Steam Users say the same. For those that lose out due to BS corporate politics, similar to how Destiny 2 Steam Deck players are locked out based on their GPU regardless of the OS, I am sorry for your loss.
No one switches to Linux to cheat in games. Most if not all publicly available cheats are made for Windows exclusively. A tech savvy user would have the knowledge how to spoof the hardware and OS anyway... So EA is not stopping any cheaters, just upsetting legit gamers.
It's coz you can use Windows cheats on windows, but you can also spoof Windows to look like Linux which makes the anti-cheat believe that it can't run the normal kernel-space anti-cheat and so it defaults to the less effective user-space anti-cheat (I think)
@@77wolfblade its not just that they dont want to. They want client-side cheat prevention in order to have more data collection results. Reminder that almost half of Bungie's revenue is from selling data that they take from the entirety of your machine, including starting processes on Windows that were non-active to collect more information. All of this is on their website for Destiny, but they will never tell you that. They will however continually reject and hide any discussion about non-Windows computing.
@@marekkedzierski8237 According to the video you're commenting on, 99% of PC players are on Windows. 1. If a percentage of linux players can be cheaters, yet 1% of the games players are on linux (no data from EA btw, just a throw-away metric based on very outdated steam charts), then how is it possible that cheaters are plaguing the game from a less than 1% of the game population? 2. If the trouble is Linux users because they can use VM's to inject cheats and avoid getting caught as players on their linux machine, the OS of the VM is irrelevant. Windows comes with VM utilities pre-installed, so cutting Linux users from the playerbase is non-affirmative action. 3. Majority of users are on Windows, others can run Windows programs with shells like WINE. For what purpose would a cheat maker create a program that doesn't have easy compatability with Windows? 9/10 times the distribution of cheats is to earn money for little work. 4. If you were responding to me and not the comment I responded to, I cited the Destiny website as evidence. There is a hyperlink on their homepage detailing the 40+ 3rd party companies they are selling your data to, and the kinds of data they are selling. (System name, config, software config, location, advertising profile, profile fingerprint, shell environments, player behaviour, mouse positions, mouse clicks and any non-game mouse click focus, along with anything that might help a computer know exactly who you are and what you can be convinced of.)
Well , I'm not playing any EA games anymore , I'm sure there are way more people cheating on Windows. we are only like 1% - 2% ( Linux users) on the entire Steam world.
@@YetiMusicCity there is no way there are enough cheaters using Linux for games to stop supporting Linux, maybe EA wants more money from Valve to support steam OS. tbh I'm not even aware if there is any cheating software that you can use on Linux and if there is any. I'm sure it's not much or hard to stop one by one ..
@@Jordanx2I think the most common way of cheating, at least that I know of, is done through editing memory addresses and injecting code at or during runtime. I'm pretty sure you need kernel level access to do that, which is why anti-cheat are on the same level, and I don't think Linux really allows you to mess around with the OS at that level, because it's a major security risk. Regardless, you kinda need stuff developed specifically for the OS your using, and I doubt cheat makers, like a lot of devs, are gonna look to that 4% Linux market share and think its worth the time.
@marekkedzierski8237 not all the time, until people report it that someone is cheating then the devs spend a few days trying find out how the cheater got around it, it's never ending battle
I bought my steam deck when they first came out but my play time on it was practically zero as i preferred to play on my gaming rig. Things have changed though and i play on my deck much more then even my pc now. Its surprising that so many games are listed as not supported but they actually work fine or sometimes not so well but play in desktop mode. Its fantastic that valve do system updates to improve the deck for popular games. I remember when palworld first came out it wouldnt even load most of the time and i was shocked a couple of weeks ago when i tried it again on the deck and it played very well indeed!
I'm one of the few Apex players who uses a Steam Deck. I have a main gaming PC so I'm not completely out of luck, but it is disappointing to lose out on another way to play when away from my main system.
I guess some of the marketing people are just super scared to sell it that way, believing. people get put off if there's no operating system. thinking they're the super casual.
Windows license for OEM is free on any device with a screen smaller than 9 inches. This rule has been in place since MS released the first tablets with Windows 8 installed. Hardware vendors such as Asus, MSI, Lenovo pay nothing for a Windows license for their handhelds. Valve could release a dual-boot Steam Deck and pay nothing for Windows There would be no price difference between a handheld with and without Windows because system is free on this kind of devices.
I know I sound terrible, but I don’t care about anti-cheat not being supported on the steam deck. I don’t play those type of games. Even if I did, I wouldn’t support that publisher if they choose to block her ability to play.
While I mainly play on consoles i often double dip on PC if the games run on Linux/SteamDeck so I can have that handheld experience I'm not getting from Sony. I will not go back to Windows just to play a game.
Linux users tend to scoff at companies for not enabling Linux support in anti-cheat. Fact is that Linux version of anti-cheat just doesn't work well and enabling support for it makes whole system susceptible to more cheating.
6:32 of note, the Legion Go uses 2242 drives, so far this does not offer an increased capacity over 2230 drives, but this is because everyone seems to be using the same large package NANDs rather than the smaller slower ones, if they used these packages the extra space could equate to ~40% larger capacity on a 2242
Its a good buisness model. Theres games I never had interest before but now that i got a steam deck ive considered a wider range of games that ill play during breaks at work or while traveling.
If only Bill had 6 clones of himself he could still be a teacher while posting kick ass content every day of the week lol. Every time I see you do the editing parody of your self I just think it would be funny if you had an actual twin LMAO. Like always another great video anyone with a problem with NerdNest is a hater because they don't have editing and podcasting skills like Bill 😉😉
What if windows is scared that Linux will take over for gamers. I have 3 systems that aren’t running windows. One is running bazzite, another nobara and my steam deck. I walked away from both apple and windows. So what if Microsoft is paying off companies like rockstar and EA to try and keep their market share. Just a thought. Oh and in case anyone doesn’t know, battleye works on Linux. The publisher just has to check a box when publishing with battleye.
If Valve is planning on making a console someday, wouldn't that make them less likely to let Xbox put the Steam store on their next gen console/handheld?
99% of the time I play on the steam deck. If it doesn't work, there are 3 decades of games that do. Also, I can boot into windows, but i almost never had to in the past year.
Larger companies like EA should work towards threatening legal action on those who create the cheating methods used for online games as a first response (a la Nintendo with how they tend to respond to stuff. In this case though, this is a viable circumstance). Creating a scare around cheating in that sense can help with respect to reducing it, rather than the need of removing support from a platform they worked to get the initial "Deck verification" badge for in the first place.
When I first decided to get the Lenovo Legion go because I couldn't get the Steam Deck as it is not available to purchase in my region the first thing I did was replace the drive in it and instead of Windows 11 I installed Bazzite OS and I haven't looked back. I have a feeling that the developers of Bazzite decided to develop the OS with the legion go in mind instead of the Steam Deck because at the beginning for a while the best handheld to install this OS with no extra steps was actually the legion go not the steam deck or the rog Ally or any of the Chinese handhelds.
EA should talk with valve and see what they both can work out before pulling it. Is not like EA don't have the power to talk with the higher ups over at Valve.
Even I'm always afraid that if I get black up sex on my Lenovo Legion go I feel like it may have issues that Activision thinks that it's concerned to be cheating to use that device I just don't know
Well .. they did something similar with bf V and one. They just added kernel level ac without support for linux as usual ... and guess what, they still have cheater problems... the same thing is going to happen with apex ... nobody wins here ... they loose players.. and we loose games ... for no purpose at all ...
No worries, other than the non-irrelevant company Capcom, who has already proven twice that they will take away a groups ability to play a game well after the return window is over (even if you aren't in that group, you cannot trust your group won't be next), there isn't a single non predatory game that requires anti cheat at the moment. There are valid older multiplayer games that required anticheat, it's just that the landscape has all turned into manipulative battlepass games (yes, even your free battlepasses have the exact same cancer) or some other predatory artificial addiction mechanics. Until the compeditive scene changes back, they're all irrelevant unless you promote self harm by playing them. Valve NEEDS to put version control in the players hands. It's absurd that this norm of the consumer not being able to play older versions of a game is ABSURD! This should not be in the publisher hands by any stretch of the imagination. If the publishers only want to provide their multiplayer servers to host the latest version, that's 100% reasonable. And that should be the expectation for official ranked play. But they do need to let purchasers host their own private party matches away from their servers. This hosting is a different feature than the more important feature to roll back YOUR game to the version you want to play. And yes, it is YOUR game. I really don't care if there is legal bullying to say you don't own the games you bought, you do! Maybe not in the eyes of certain entities, but there are laws protecting us from obeying unjust laws. And to not own a copy of what you purchased is unjust. The fact that I had to cover version control, with user controled multiplayer, then with ownership rights just speaks to how absurdly messed up the state of things are with big publishers. And so, only VERY rarely do I even have an ounce of desire to play them. I'm not being a martyr, THEY have made me 100% uninterested in dealing with their crap with games. Games are a playground for enjoyment and experiencing art. And if the companies distract me with all these levels of BS, then I'm not playing any more. The hobby becomes a burden. The indie scene doesn't have that burden for me, and habrors a HECK of a lot more interesting ideas, game mechanics, and artistic direction (less photo realistinc quality, but that's also become uninteresting).
Just got my legion go yesterday loving it but think Lenovo needs to do there damn job and start being day and date with amd guy driver support had to side load 780m drivers to get updated drivers they are 7 months behind unacceptable
Completely regret wasting money on Apex Legends, knowing I can't even see use the Battle pass skins or Christmas skin I bought due to this anticheat rule. I'm the one in the friend group always giving this game the benefit of the doubt, claiming its at least better than OW2/Paladins/Valorant, but now I'm not even sure if that's true. And! Littlebigplanet 3! Delisted from the playstation store! Without a pc/xbox/switch port!
The apex yank is funny because there is an enormous cheating problem and cutting the linux cheaters from the windows cheaters isn't going to be very big. Its just an easy option for EA.
Unfortunately I play apex on the deck so this kinda sucks but I’ll just play on console where it’s not nearly as sweaty. 🤷 nothing to get bent too out of shape over.
The only games I like better on a PC are competitive first person shooters. For everything else I like Steam Deck. So I’ll pass on EA games. Jedi Survivor would have been fun though.
I only recently got the Deck and thought I could finally try a bit of Apex given my laptop couldn't in no way run it... Oh well, looks like its back to titanfall 2 again for me!
Even it's nice about the Handheld PC that uses USB 4 part which is mean I can connect it to my EGPU this is why that the Lenovo Legion go What's the first handheld to feature EGPU support with USB4 port which is I'm obsessed with EGPU on my handheld because I want to get performance boost and that perform boost gives me a great experience because even I can buy myself A EGPU a lot cheaper even you can build around $400 Or between$450 it just depends if it reaches to Black Friday maybe $400 for sure
I think it is potentially scummy to remove Apex from Steamdeck, but on the other hand... is the Steamdeck really the best way to play ANY competitive shooter? I just don't think 60 fps on a small screen with controller aiming is going to cut it when playing against other steam users who can play at full 1080p or higher with 120+fps. I would think the steamdeck is better for indie games, single player games, or co-op PVE games. I guess I understand if people bought a steam deck because it's cheaper than a PC and that's their only way to play steam games, this is disappointing, but I still think that basically no one except a pro gamer is going to compete well in FPS PVP shooters on a Steamdeck. There may actually be more desktop linux users affected by this than Steamdeck players, which if they aren't cheating, is sad. Windows has an unfair monopoly on PC gaming OS. If you play PVP shooters on a steam deck, I'd like to know 1. Can you compete well or 2. It doesn't matter if you win or lose its just fun to play the game on the go
Hear me out, linux servers for linux players, and offline mode. I'm getting really tired of losing games from EA because of Anticheat(the reason for the last 2 games i lost on Steamdeck) I am getting serious 2012 Battlefield vibes where they took the activation servers offline for old games, so if you bought a new computer, you werent allowed to install it again(but if your old computer still worked, you could play it as long as it didnt die) Less than a year after buying my first EA game since the thanos snap, they're pulling the same crap in a different way, at least there is a more legitimate reason, still stupid because there is an easy fix without excluding players, as mentioned above.
No sane person cares about EA Games with Anti Cheat. If you really want to play them for some weird reason just get the cracked version where the horrible privacy infringement of the Anti Cheat is taken care of. Kernel Level Anti Cheat has nothing to do with cheating, it is about getting full access to your system and being able to see everything you do on your system if someone (whoever that might be) consideres it necessary.
I have not turn on my desktop for the last 3 month after getting SD Oled. hahaha anti cheat or not, it has been and will be my main gaming device for now. all my open world game run great on sd.
I dont play APEX but i dont get it why thats a problem of steam os. Anti cheat should be apply on the game it self and not the type of operating system. That the maker or developers of apex problem.
I would love to see this data of Linux players being cheaters, but I never saw proof of it. I wonder is it made up boogeyman. Why haven't these companies just work with valve to help come up with a solution to the anti cheat problem?
People blocking Linux just means I won't play their games I'm never returning to windows no matter what. We have 90% of the steam library working on Linux we have plenty of other games to move to.
are you running bazzite or windows? really curious about bazzite on legion go in general, and egpu support specifically. with this $500 deal, it's tempting to upgrade my sd lcd, especially since legion go has egpu and a trackpad
@@EugeneYunak I'm running Windows. For my desktop use, I use a secondhand Razer X eGPU I bought off eBay and an RTX 3060ti GPU. I can run Red Dead 2 on high/ultra settings on my widescreen monitor at 60fps. All I had to do was download the latest Nvidia drivers, and it worked with no tweaking other than the monitor settings.
I only bought decide how with steam deck ally I returned first time it came out wasn’t taking chance with legion still hate how other handhelds always having windows on them windows sucks updates bloat Ed in memory updates will only going get you so far before you need more powerful hardware system that’s dam reason I don’t like stream game I like to download my games on memory card or hard drive game gets deleted on steam deck you can still play it no fear of it be deleted or outdated
And if they remove the game from Windows, 100% of cheaters will be removed 😂 The only way against cheaters I see, is using AI catching them mid game and bann them. Just got an idea, but this would involve graphic card vendors as well. If a gamer has been caught cheating, there should be a lock on his graphic card for that game in combination with his steam account and Mainboard. Just an idea...
EA is absolutely the bad guy. As are the likes of Rockstar for blocking GTA online. Linux being for hackers and cheaters isn't _really_ based in reality. Even if there is an easier exploit, or a disproportionate amount of cheaters on Linux, you fix it. They're fully capable of doing so.
Don't upgrade your SSD on your Lenovo Legion go because then I will let you because if you do it you can break your warranty means if your handheld breaks that means you have to buy a new hand held other handheld products will let you to upgrade someday don't so it's just because of the warranty because some had held they will lay you to upgrade and if they knew you damaged something they can still replace a new one and then you can sell it place an ssd for me I will wait that if Lenovo Legion go 2 Then later I will think about that if Lenovo knows that if it's okay to upgrade or not it just depends
Here's the thing about the Legion Go's price drop: Yes, it's good for the consumer. Whenever prices go down, that will pretty much always be good for the consumer. But the thing is, when the price drops to that degree, I pretty much take it as a sign that the product probably wasn't worth the original asking price. Meaning that the Legion Go was never really worth $700-800USD.
I took it as that, Lenovo wants to get out of PC handhelds. I mean, valve has the ultimate advantage over everybody, they can sell the steam deck at a loss, the steam deck puts you right into steam. Valve gets 30% of any of your purchases, Valve can literally subsidize their handhelds, Lenovo, Asus, etc can't.
the issue with the anti cheat, it's that they can't install a malware on a linux that will have full control like they do on windows, (a friend get this pc brick because of EA anti cheat when they forced the EA app at the start... even formatting was not possible... the app messed the SSD to much... needed to got another disk, reinstall windows on the new disk and then using special tool to reset the SSD... thanks EA...)
hmmm wonder if banning linux OS opens up room for a lawsuit? If you buy a PC product that was previously advertised to run on deck/linux and then its taken away from you, couldnt you just refund everything you've ever spent on the game. Too bad I don't think anyone like that actually exists
Linux is not the only viable way to cheat in game can literally cheat like this on any console, they just get paid by microsoft to utilize their os instead of making anti cheat for linux.
They said it themselves "linux has a small player base" instead why dont these idiots work with steam deck to prevent the problem instead of banning altogether. complete laziness. Make it make sense - apex has been a joke for years now so ill gladly stop supporting their dying game lmaooo
