@@wingnutmcspazatron3957lmao buddy I know what you're trying to do here but you should at least be educated if you're gonna do that. You can very much reheat rice, there's zero danger to reheating anything, it's all about its temperature and how long it's been out. Bacteria don't just spawn out of thin air.
So true. Think of all those law suits that could have happened over decades. And companies still sell frozen dinners. Anything is possible but it's not going to stop me from microwaving.
Not to mention that there is such thing as canned mushrooms, spinach, beets, and chicken, which are fully cooked during the canning process, and NONE of them have a warning label on the can that say you shouldn't microwave them. Must not be as dangerous as this video suggests.
I have never experienced any illness episode that could have been caused by reheating any of the listed foods. Although I am not refuting the video, the key takeaways here: 1. The microwave method of heating is only contributory because, due to uneven heating, the temperature is harder to control or know. For many of the foods, reheating to a sufficiently high temperature or reheating to no more than a sufficiently low (e.g. no more than take the refrigeration chill away and consume immediately) would be safe. 2. Reheating is exacerbating, not causing, a risk that was already present in some cases because the food item was improperly, cleaned, stored, handled, or cooked the first time. 3. We do far more damage in our handling and storage of foods than most of us realize. The reheating is merely increasing the danger. Simple example: When we take home food from a restaurant-prepared meal, the food typically spends an riskly amount of time at improper temperature, then we reheat it in a foamed container, and at least we reheat it in a foamed container.
This is really something! I have reheated in microwave & eaten practically everything in this video: eggs, rice, potatoes, spinach, chicken. Have NEVER had a problem my whole life & Iam 80! Of course early on there were no microwaves but have had one since they came out & have found it wonderful to be able to reheat dinner on a plate instead of using various pots & pans. What a convenience! One thing is I do refrigerate leftovers so have always been careful with food but as stated before have never been limited as to what can be reheated so this video is quite a surprise. 🤔
I have loved in hong kong for 36 years and have spent all of that time eating fried rice made from leftover boiled rice. Neither I nor any of my family have ever been sick!
I'd love to go to Hong Kong someday. And Shanghai. I've seen pictures of downtown Shanghai, it's got the People's square, and it has like the 2nd or 3rd world's tallest skyscraper now, and also that neat looking needle shaped tower with the 2 ball shaped domes (one near top and one closer to bottom)
I rehat nearly all of those regularly. The trick is to make sure you reHEAT them not just warm them up a bit. Also put in sealed container and put in the fridge as soon as you can when you are initially storing them. Stir frying yesterday’s rice is a staple diet in my house and possibly in many Asian households….. it’s all about killing the bugs and developing antibodies.
I reheat rice on the stove top and is very quick. Microwaves are handy for sure, but they should only be used very sparingly in general They DO change the nature and nutrients of food ad of course give radiation
Depending on your age or immune system, most people can handle small doses of food borne bacteria. Small children, elderly and those with compromised immune systems (fatigue, stress, colds or diseases), will not be as lucky.
true.. I love fried rice in the morning and always used leftover rice I put in the fridge the night before. I also wash the rice several times before I turn on the rice cooker.
@@bjstewart3723 Good point. I do see how this video caught me off guard. I have compromised immunity so have to be careful. But you make a good point we all eat precooked food probably 90% of the time.
@@tylerdonitzen I can't imagine why anyone would want to reheat eggs, particularly boiled eggs. The pilot light on my stove didn't work, and when I ran out of matches to light it, I put a twist tie in it. The wire sparked and set the paper on fire, and I used it to light my stove.
I've reheated rice, chicken, potatoes, celery and spinach in my microwave. The only problem I ever had was in reheating rice more than once. It caused some uncomfortable bloating. So far made it to 70 years with not intention of changing my reheating habits.
The philosophical differences between people who are in a microwave is not the same but it has a very bad chemical reaction and will spontaneously combust into pumiuophicalicing bacteria burst
@dakine6, there are some things I just don't like reheated in a microwave. It can make some food tough. Of course I have a full-sized convection oven and a microwave, but I also love my small toaster oven. It crisps things up and it's just great when you have a small amount of something and don't want to heat the big oven.
No wonder my stomach is so strong! I've been reheating things like eggs, rice, chicken and potatoes my whole life and I very rarely have stomach issues. I'm going to chalk it up to building a super-strong immune-defense in my gut early on in life, even though that's probably not the case at all and I've likely just been slowly killing myself the entire time.
So according to you, the entire frozen food/tv dinner industry has to shut down. I didn't realize they had been killing millions of people every year that reheat them.
Jeez, I've used a microwave since they came out, and I reheat rice, chicken, spaghetti with pepper's, mushrooms and sauce, and have used Styrofoam containers at time's, and I've never gotten sick
@@Naleksuh it's only just appeared on my RU-vid feed so it's probably the same for them. This basically says don't use a microwave to reheat because of uneven heating. Most microwave ovens have turntables to minimise this. If in doubt heat on the hob.
@@dylanstyer8946 Reheated in the microwave. The pizza was fine. Cover the pizza slice with a paper towel and use a medium temperature. One could also put a cup of water in with the pizza slice.
I notice a poor taste to reheated mushrooms. Maybe it's caused a cramp or two in my day...I can't say for certain. Needless to say, I tend to avoid reheating mushrooms. They just don't taste as good.
I wasn't just very sick I was vormating as well but every one to their own taste as for me I will never reheat mushrooms with rice again maybe on pizza they are ok
I've done all of this and never had a problem , I have heard about a man who left his pasta out over night rather than refrigerating it and he died ; also a woman got fried rice at a buffet that hadn't been changed from the day before and she died but neither of them had anything to do with a microwave.
@@RaduRadonys The previous posts were using Fahrenheit. Are you using Celsius, or do you really keep your refrigerator 25 degrees below freezing (and presumably store no liquids there)? 7C would be 44.6F, btw.
I have reheated literally EVERYTHING on this list and I have lived to tell about it. Wow, am I lucky, Blessed or both? I've always been known to live on the edge 😃
Yes, Bright Side has unwittingly fallen prey to the Industrialized food and paranoia mongers seeking (esp in America) to make Americans only eat highly processed convenience foods/ instant/then throw away and never cook in cost and nutrition effective bulk ways.
@@64Seawind yeah if you look at a lot of fried rice recipes they tell you it's best to use day-old rice but you don't have to. The main thing is using rice that isn't too moist or sticky. Otherwise if you do it that way it'll get mushy nobody likes mushy fried rice.
Potatoes, rice & scrambled eggs taste wonderful reheated. (I had reheated rice for dinner last night!Add a bit of butter and/or milk, reheat on 5 or 6 & they taste just like new. Hasn't killed me yet!
I just reheated 3 boiled eggs (deviled) in the MW last week. Never had a hint of any digestion problem. I've often reheated a portion of leftover rice in the MW (Knorr) that had been in the fridge several days....No problem. Also leftover chicken from a big meal. No problem. Where I can appreciate your warnings ..and they may be valid, but we are not all created equal. Many people are very sensitive to the adverse effects these foods may have when they are reheated....Me? I seem to have a cast-iron stomach...lol But thanks...
None of this is true. I have actually been cooking and reheating Eggs, Mushrooms, Chicken, and Rice in the microwave regularly for over a decade and never had any issues. Unless the food spends a cumulative maximum amount of time in the temperature "danger zone" (40-140F), which is typically ~4 hours for most foods, and never less than 2 hours. It will not become poisonous. Reheating and even refreezing, contrary to popular belief, is not dangerous in the slightest. Again assuming the cumulative time spent in the danger zone during those defrosts/refreezing/reheating/cooling, etc, does not exceed the maximum.
Ive been eating reheated food for almost 5 decades and for 4 decades we have had & used a microwave. Never been sick from it either. Ive had food poisoning 2 or 3 times in my life and every single time it was from eating out, not from food I had reheated at home.
Are you from a country that culturally and regularly eats spicy foods and or daily ?? If so your guts are actually different to those who do not regularly or daily eat spicy foods as their culture.
I've reheated all this stuff before many times(apart from celery, spinach and beets) and it's never done me any harm. You shouldn't spread mis-information just to get clicks/subscribers!!
@@Maybe.Its_You there are many kinds of scientists that do research on food.. usually one person will specialize in a few specific foods. Not sure what the oc specifically does but their occupation is a very real and necessary one
As long as it's only one day old and reheated through rice is fine for most people. I have known someone who ate takeaway microwaved rice and got sick so if you prepare it properly you have a lower chance. Most of these can be reheated on the stove safely rather than in a microwave.
Basically. What about all the frozen food that requires reheating of these previously cooked foods? I'm not really buying this. I reheat mushrooms, rice, chicken, and eggs all the time. Never sick. Now I'm going to worry about it and the worrying will probably make me sick. Wish I wouldn't have watched. lol
I’ve been a chef for thirty years, I’m also highly trained and taught for several years in the culinary arts. This video is not about reheating but all about proper food handling and knowing how to handle all food properly. What is said in this video applies to all food. I can say these things about all food products. This video isn’t saying anything wrong just misrepresenting these foods to make people panic about what they have been doing. Just know your food handling safety and you will avert most problems in the future. I think the video should be more about how to reheat properly so you don’t ruin your leftovers. Eat well, eat safe!
I threw away my microwave several decades ago. Fairly early research showed that microwaved foods contained carcinogens. My convection oven does everything that I need, and (except for a large turkey), I do not even use my full-size oven any more).
Well one thing they have wrong is placing prepared “ hot food “ in the fridge. Tightly covered ( sure to get sick that way ). First you must allow it to cool no more then 2 hours before putting in the fridge and make sure the food is cool to the touch as covering it only keep the hot spots active. Put in fridge on top shelf uncovered to cool properly. Never put hot food in a fridge unless you possibly can afford a new compressor. The fridge compressor works harder to cool the fridge when a temperature change is detected.
This can't be completely right. Frozen prepared meals and canned foods are already cooked so when you heat them out of the package ( can) you are reheating.
My favorite frozen chicken pieces I buy are precooked. They just need to be warmed up in the microwave. If this was a bad thing to do I am sure the product would not even be allowed to be sold. So I am not buying what this video is saying. Everything it does needs to be questioned as it all could be equally false.
i’ve been hearing about the rice thing for years now. i’ve been leaving rice at room temp and reheating for decades. and never gotten sick. and i don’t wash my rice either.
Same here… BUT I have noticed what are supposed to be telltale signs of arsenic poisoning on my fingernails so I have begun to start washing and cooking it to avoid that. I have noticed these fingernail symptoms before coming and going spontaneously so I am going to see if they go away and STAY away! If there’s arsenic poisoning I’m sure it’s lightweight but I am getting older!!
I always place cooked rice under cold running water before reheating it and never had a problem. Not sure whether this makes a difference but has worked ok for me and mine.
The odd thing is that (supposedly) if you put your still hot food into a refrigerator it raises the overall temperature in the fridge and as such that of the foods within and can raise the temp into the "danger zone" of certain foods.
TOP TIP! If you are reheating certain foods that tend to dry out in the microwave (like pastries) add a mug of water to the microwave too, the steam will help you keep those foods moist and fluffy 😁
The main reason not to heat rice in the microwave is because it splits open and tastes horrible. But if you don't care how your food tastes then it doesn't matter.
i'm usually really careful with my food, but even i'm gonna call bs on this one. i reheat rice and chicken almost every day at work and i've never gotten sick
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the heavy metal music in the beginning! 🤔😎🤘🏻 I've NEVER gotten sick from eating ANYTHING that I've reheated, but I reheat on the stove because I don't have a microwave! 🤔🤷🏻♀️
same here ,never ever been sick ref re heating , straight from fridge into micro wave , does he think its left out all night on benchon a warm summer night then in microwave , silly
Doesn’t matter if the information in the video is true or not when the channel has 33.5 million subscribers. Just post something, even if it’s nonsense, and watch the money roll in.
The other one would be a fried egg. But that is ridiculous in that who would do it? Could just "scramble" the egg then put it in to warm up. For all of these foods, one would just warm up, not "cook" as they have already been cooked.
Can you do a version of this video that doesn't refer to microwaves for people who NEVER use microwaves. Do these facts apply to food reheated in an oven, toaster oven, or on a grill?
Most of them since causality is really hard to prove. All we can see most of the time are links and correlations. Red meat is linked to cancer but there is not telling if the meat per se is carcinogen or it's the stuff that it's added to it or if the lifestyle of those that eat it more is...
As far as the eggs.. he did say if it's an ingredient in it then it isn't so bad but if it's an omelet or boiled egg heating in the microwave would make it bad
Potatoes , eggs, rice and mushrooms...not an issue ever. But more than one time each time. I try not to do rice much as it’s something I don’t often eat.
I have reheated all of these foods mentioned, and I never got sick or got any stomach upsets. I think it makes your immune system stronger. Even foods that have been in the refrigerator for over a week, I have eaten them and never got sick. But I have reheated most of the foods over the stove top, not microwave.
no... its the microwave. The instructions advise that you not stand near a running microwave. If its not safe to be near it, what was *in it* can't be that good. Notice almost everything suggested not to reheat *specifically* mentioned ''in the microwave''.
@@asher6657 No Microwave ovens have been thoroughly shielded for years. Yes, playing it safe and stepping back is a wise practice, but there is very little risk lingering near the oven as it works.
@@ownpetard8379 Even if I concede to your point about a microwave's shielding, the truth still remains; almost every thing that was mentioned, that was dangerous to be reheated, *specifically mentions microwaves.* Actually the fact that it has to be shielded to be safe, proves my point! If it has to be shielded to be safe to stand nearby, how safe is, the food that comes out of it?
Asher that is faulty reasoning. You wouldn't want to be in a conventional oven when it's cooking something but you happily eat what comes out of it. Please study logical fallacies before commenting.
@@nealdo132 nealdo132 Nice try.... But reading comprehension is not your strong suit. Dude i have been eating reheated and cold rice all my life. U may need to edit this video. I have never had any issue from cold, room temp, or reheated rice.
My family always told me never to rinse rice as it is full of starch and so rinsing it will make it much harder to cook without going very sticky. It sounds silly but I believe there is some truth in this
For over 45 years now, I'm consuming every week, at least once, mushrooms, omelet or scrambled eggs, rice, various chicken or other meat dishes, boiled potatos. It's obvious I reheated the leftovers with my microwave the next day. I NEVER EVER had any health problem. So...the conclusion of your presentation is.... ???
I just turned 61 last month. I have reheated all of my meals, I have cooked over the years. Never had a upset stomach, no diarrhea, no throwing up. So, I think this was out to scare people into throwing food away. And buying fresh food. For they know that no one going to ear cold food. So now they hope, that you will start throwing leftovers aways. Which you be running out of food a lot fast. Being you have to make a new meals, the next time you get hungry. That what I think it is all about. Just had for two days now. chicken with rice and mushrooms gravy. And corn. I am not sick. So I'm not going to throwing left over food.
Don't have to throw, putting into cold salad isn't bad at all and they're just stating what research has suggested n the rice talkers, if u rinse first as u shud thats why no ISSUES DUUHH??!! FFS ffs lad🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♀️
FYI: Many fast food restaurants use pre-cooked eggs in their breakfast sandwiches, which they receive in big boxes, frozen, then defrost and reheat in the microwave. You'd think we'd hear a lot about more cases of poisonings or deaths from all those millions of reheated eggs, yet the news seems to be really silent on the subject.
@@haroldwilkes6608 The ones from powdered eggs would likely end up as scrambled egg sandwiches, not fried egg sandwiches, with a center yolk. I used to work somewhere that received shipments of frozen pre-cooked eggs in big boxes, which had to be defrosted and put onto individual cardboard trays, then stacked neatly in large plastic boxes, to make microwaving them quicker. And traying those eggs was my job, at the end of every shift, setting things up for the next shift.
@@app103 I was thinking more along the line of sausage/egg biscuits or bagels which don't show yolks but not egg sandwiches. Thanks for the clarification.
To sum up : never reheat: 1-mushrooms 2-eggs unless it's an ingredient of some dish 3-rice unless it is put directly in the fridge after it was prepared 4-breast milk or formula 5-chicken or processed meat 6-potatoes unless they are put directly in the fridge after they were prepared 7-celeray, spinach and beets
My mother also made potato pancakes with leftover mashed potatoes. Never got sick. I reheat all these foods and I've never had a problem. My favorite is red chili and spaghetti.
It really isn't bs. It is a bit extreme. Most people haven't a clue how to prepare food or what the more common symptoms of food poisoning are. If we exclude death, paralysis and brain damage, most people will associate food poisoning with vomiting or diarrhea yet these are not the most common symptoms. The more common symptoms are headaches, muscle pain and fatigue which are very much prevalent in today's society.
@@MatthewSmith-wv5fi bro it's litterly bs.. you can buy frozen microwave omlets from Tesco and this dude tryna say reheating these things make u ill. yea right.. the only thing that was really correct it this video was the baby bottle one
@@Believer3_ Magnum Dude...they're not talking about frozen food. They're talking about cooking a fried egg and then eating it a day or two later. Frozen meals, in the case of eggs, will contain citric acid. Most people don't add citric acid to the mix while cooking eggs at home. You say it's "literally BS" and then literally provide no evidence to refute it other than processed foods that contain preservatives designed to counteract the effects noted in this video.
I’ve been eating reheated rice for 35 - 40 years (since microwave ovens became popular) and cant think of ONE time I got sick. It just takes a long time for all the rice to get hot.
To speed up the process, put a small container of water in the microwave with it. If it's on a plate, dampen a paper towel and cover it. I've been doing these "tricks" for 20 plus years. Give it a try and see for yourself. Enjoy
Thanks for this info and the list. I re-heat very little of my foods I eat (mainly cause I don't usually have left overs), and I definitely would not re-heat or nuke stuff in a microwave. Reading most the comments here, they are successful at re-heating items you mention. If you do it right, should be ok, but some don't know how to re-heat foods correctly, then they get sick. I guess it also boils down in how you store your leftovers so they don't spoil right away.
I find this video's assertions to be highly dubious. Food manufacturers regularly use many of these as key components in microwaveable meals. I seriously doubt they would do so if there was even a small risk of them being sued over it.
Botulism is anaerobic meaning it dies in air. So it can only live in airtight containers. And if they did have botulism toxin they would be just as bad or worse cold.
I think this robot type voice could be a production that originated from a 3rd world country where food storage practices and hygiene can be difficult. Could be geared to the owners of microwaves but poorly functioning fridges or simply the culture is to leave the food out. This would cause sickness after microwaving. I read through comments 99 per cent never experienced this.
I was skeptical on the mushrooms, but you lost me entirely on the eggs. Have you never heard of creamed eggs? Scotch eggs? There are dozens of recipes using re-heated hard boiled eggs, and I've never heard of any of them making anyone sick. All the USDA has to say on the subject is to make sure you get your re-heated eggs up to 165 degrees F. Trying to cook an egg in the shell in the microwave is dangerous. Reheating eggs? Not so much.
