Thank you for you content. Each video i watch makes me want to buy an accordion more. I’m struggling with price of a shipped accordion from a store because I don’t live anywhere near an accordion mechanic and can’t afford to buy a used one that’s inoperable.

I'm glad to see you've uploaded more videos! I just want to chime in real quick that at 4:56 you said "dominant" but of course you meant "diminished" 😉 Pardon me for another correction, but at 7:08 you said if you add C sharp it completes the diminished 7th chord, but it's actually F sharp (G flat). I know that you know what you're talking about, and we all have little slip ups of the mind. So I'm not trying to be rude in correcting, just being helpful. (Okay I'm at 14 minutes and I see that you actually do mean the C sharp with the G diminished.) That's a really awesome bass line, the way it goes C, C sharp, D, and G!!! I really never use the diminished button, however I did realize that you can easily create a full diminished 7th chord by having the pointer and pinky fingers both on diminished buttons. So for example, pointer finger pushing C diminished, middle finger hovering on F diminished, ring finger hovering on Bb diminished, and pinky finger pushing on Eb diminished. The downside is, it's very easy to get lost way over there when you want to get back to the single bass notes.

Yes. I realized the mistake when I rewatched the video. It should be F# with the C dim button. No wonder it sounded bad when I tried to play the two together. I got confused because the chord progression i was hoping to show was a Gdim with C#. So for some reason I kept hitting the C# with the C dim. I should probably redo this video. I wish RU-vid let you edit uploaded videos.

Yes. Playing two diminished chord buttons (Cdim and Adim) should give a dim7 chord with all the 4 notes. You might find your way back to the proper position in the bass row with enough practice. Another downside of playing two chord buttons and no bass is that the voicing will be very crowded. Adding the deep bass note makes it sound fuller.

There is a way to add annotations to videos, such that a little popup text box appears. I will look into that more... and yes I'm surprised that RU-vid doesn't have built-in post-production editing features by now. Edit: RU-vid got rid of annotations :( talk about backwards progress!

Oh, something I forgot to say. A possible use of the diminished 7th button is for a chord substitution for the V⁷ chord. Like if you're in C major or C minor.....but more suitable for C minor actually..... instead of a V⁷-i cadence, you could do a vii°⁷-i. However, the difficulty on accordion is that it's a HUGE jump from C bass note to B°⁷ button. Obviously on piano or guitar this is a very short jump. But because fully diminished 7th chords are entirely symmetrical of stacked minor 3rds, and I know that you know what I mean but I will explain for anyone reading, you can substitute any of the diminished chords with shared notes, so B°⁷ and D°⁷ and F°⁷ and Ab°⁷(G#°⁷) all sound the same. What I'm getting at is, from C note, you can go down a fifth to F and use F°⁷ as a substitute for B°⁷ which itself is a substitute for G⁷. You could theoretically take it a step further and play G bass note with F°⁷ to make a G⁷ flat 9 (G B D F Ab). That's what I like to do on piano. I haven't actually gotten that far on the accordion bass side though.

On a HALF related note....... half diminished chords 😉..... a nice little workaround for the ii⌀7 (let's say B half diminished 7th B, D, F, A in the key of A minor), is to play the iv chord (D minor; D, F, A) and add the bass note (B) separately.
