You don't Need expensive tools to build awesome stuff. that is why I also show you how I made 2 identical floating shelves with expensive tools VS cheaper tools. You you finally stop saying " I could build that too if I had all those tools"

how did you get the metal mount flush to the back on the version w/ the less expensive tools?
@JARMade
@JARMade Год назад
I used the router on both, I believe that is the most efficient and affordable to do it.
@planckstudios
@planckstudios Год назад
@@JARMade ah - then a little off on the math, if you can't build the cheaper version w/ out another $170 in tools. That router base is for real. And ya, those mounts may be upside down
@JARMade
@JARMade Год назад
Yeah I honestly overlooked that I thought I out it on there but yeah I said say $140 for a new router and bit I needed to add to it 😬
@DexBunny
@DexBunny Год назад
@@planckstudios I suppose the cheapest alternative would be to use a chisel to get most of the material out and then using a router plane to make it flush.
@planckstudios
@planckstudios Год назад
@@DexBunny that's a great alternative - I'd not seen a router plane before - like a chisel guide - thanks for the ideas!

Great video and comparison between expensive and inexpensive tools. I think it also has a lot to do with what type projects you do and I make a lot of smaller wood craft projects. If I was to make a cutting board, for example, I opt to use the belt sander as opposed to buying a planer. Maybe I don't get a perfectly flat surface but it looks pretty flat to the average eye and it is just a cutting board. If I'm doing wood carving, my tool set is quite minimal. So it depends on what you want to make.

Most definitely! But there are always multiple ways of doing the same thing. Some times you need to get creative lol

It's 100 percent upside down and dangerous to leave like that. Please fix. Nice build though, and alternatives are the driving force of the hobby. Cheers

I love the concept for this video. I hope you keep doing projects like this. Two of the same product made with different levels of tools. Side note- was the floating shelf bracket upside down when you installed it on the wall or is the serrated side supposed to face up?
@JARMade
@JARMade Год назад
Yeah I bet I will still get a comment that says " I could make that too If it had all those tools" lol And honestly idk not really clear on the directions 🙃

One thing you could have made more clear with the expensive tools is if you had the table saw you didn’t actually need the mitre saw or track saw. Other than that great vid

Very good comparison. Although there are some YT Makers that insist that Festool are the only tools worth having. Many of them are YT infomercials and salesmen. Thanks for showing an excellent result can be had on a budget.
