You have lighter, plastic bottle , duct tape , clean sun glasses, good looking hat and all. Only things missing for your survival is a Hotel.

In Boy Scouts I learned a similar technique: Dig a basketball-sized hole, put a couple inches of un-pure water in it. Put an empty cup in the middle, and cover the hole with a sheet of plastic or rubberized cloth. Put a small rock on the sheet directly over where the cup is. The sun warms the dirty water, it evaporates and collects on the plastic sheet, where it runs down into the cup. Drinkable water.

You can utilize this same concept to desalinate or distill water. Shes just showing you the components you need. Something to hold the bad water, something to absorb energy and something to collect the good water. You can do this with a plastic grocery bag and two different sized containers. Put the smaller container inside the bigger one. Add bad water to the bigger one,put thwm both in the bag, tie it up ans put a rock or coin in middle so the clear water drips into the smaller container. You can also dig a hole in wet sand and put a container in the hole and cover the hole with a tarp or plastic bag. I make pill bottle survival kits and one of the items in it is a sheet of plastic specifically for this purpose.

This can be done with two bowls, the smaller one inside the bigger, saran wrap over both, elastic to hold it in place, and just drop a small stone on the centre of the smaller bowl in the middle. You're creating condensation leaving it in the sun, but the salt is left behind, so the water that does drip into the small bowl is fresh water.

Another method that works is to dig a pit. In the very center you place bowl type open receptacle that can hold water. You cover the pit with a black trash bag that has been cut open to lay flat. Stake it or weight it down around the edges. Make sure the very center of the plastic is pointing down toward the receptacle - you can put a rock on top of it or something in the middle, something that won't collapse it. As the sun hits the tarp and heats up the pit, the evaporating moisture from the soil will begin to collect on the tarp and roll downward toward the weighted center point, into the bowl below.
