People don't get this video lol. They are not promoting Ortega as a thug. They are trying to show people that someone like Ortega can make it through MMA.
Plenty of people have "made it out the hood" and a lot of them spin tales to fit the image more. Wouldnt doubt hes from the hood but hes a good storyteller if you dont know any better.
Those are the projects in San Pedro off Beacon St...I grew up in the nice part of Pedro...that was a scary area when I was young. You didn't go down there unless you wanted trouble. It looks much nicer now but it was a scary place.
Wow. Fighting in the UFC is relatively safe to him after his background. He didn’t seem scared of Max’s growling at the presser either. If he loses it ain’t gonna be due to nerves. If it goes to the ground it could be over quick. Max has a skinny neck.
This sooo fucking funny because someone was just talking about how the fighter embedded series would be Ortega talking about growing up in the hood and max Holloway saying he’s so blessed
the comments on this video are hilarious. so many people saying “oh man this is so forced, he’s trying so hard to be hood and seem tough” but y’all really don’t get it at all...no one living in these areas and living that lifestyle WANT to be, they’re doing what they need to do in order to survive. All you suburban kids think you know it all but you’ve never been exposed to real life before, some people didn’t have it as easy as y’all.
Did you make your name glockjawz in order to survive? Alot of tough guy is shit is just a stupid attempt to be cool. Your attempt at explaining it all away is weak - we ain't buying it.
@@glockjawz7429 - we're talking about trying to appear tough and whether that's something you choose to do or are forced to do. Were you forced to include the name of a gun in your stage name? Like it was life or death and someone was forcing you? Nah, you chose that name coz you like the image bro. This is exactly what we're talking about. A dumb culture that thinks guns and hood shit is cool.
I have slept on the streets of skid row before in a red hoodie. LA is SOFT. Come to South America or eastern Europe and we will see if you still think South Central is "hood" lol
do you blame diversity for your shortcomings? are you just another one of those losers that clings to trivial things like his whiteness because they lack any real accomplishments? lol
@@diversityisourweakness7545 - so do you just keep a list of buzzwords like "strawman" to use the first chance you get, even when you dont know how to use it? lol whatever the case, I simply asked a question. this wasnt even an argument to begin with, you dummy lol answer my question though. do you blame diversity for your shortcomings? if youre not white, do you identify as a self-hating uncle tom because it makes you feel that having these stances will make you feel more accepted by a certain demographic? lol
@@DC-bp8sx just because I offended you doesnt mean I have "a few screws loose", you sensitive snowflake. in fact, I actually made a pretty good point by addressing that he incorrectly used his "strawman" excuse ;)
People are giving Brian crap for talking about his life growing up in a rough neighborhood, but when studio gangster rappers lie about a life they never lived over beats, it's praised and admired. 🙄
Martin Velez is he acting hard tho? i see a soft spoken, humble dude who's just laughing at the bullshit he's been through, who's also a public figure who's required to do press. 🤔
I use to see him at the skatepark , at that time I would've never predicted him fighting in the UFC, let alone for the belt. I hope he becomes the champ!
Really? Me and brian first met at knife fights in the underground hood fighting scene, he stabbed 3 dudes in a row so i bought him a beer. Somehow he liked me so we went in his backyard to smoke some crack and roll a little bit. After i heelhooked him he got pissed and stabbed me in my arm with a broken crack pipe, so i took a baseballbat and knocked him out with it. last week i saw him again at wallmart but fortunately for me he didnt recognised me anymore!
@@backbone93 do you know that Brian Ortega lives on Earth ? And anybody on Earth could've seen him and that person happens to watch his videos on youtube right ?
The first time I saw a grown man defecate on the street next to a mail box , right on fillmore in San Francisco . That was 20 years ago. Thing have gotten a lot worse since
I didnt realize so many people have no idea of what goes on in these environments...maybe because he has conducted himself professionally they think it cant be...if you think this is a stretch your lucky your life has been good enough to let u think that way
R P Ortega is a real one. My cuzzo ran with him back in the day. Ortega actually downplaying himself compared to how he could actually share the truth. If you don’t know, don’t talk
Can u enlighten the rest of us? Bc I think everyone got it. The sole and only purpose of this video was to hype the fight. Now everyone could have got something from it personally. However the reason this vid was made was to promote a fight.
i dont think he portrays himself as a ganster..he seem like a genuinely nice guy with a clear mind on who he really is...much respect..💯🤙🤙but this #blessederafosho
This was great. Being from a rough area myself growing up, I can relate to some of the stuff he did/saw... How can u NOT be a fan of this man? Very humble and caring for his family/friends and people in general. Not to mention his warrior spirt. The dude is a terminator. Nothing but greatness for him.
SoCal mentality for sure ..And the New!! Go put Cali on your back bro and rep the chicanos and show humbleness while your at the top. Now RU-vid can start the trump comments. #OVERRATED KEYBOARD JOCKIES!
Back then there was not a lot of promotion, probably that's why they never promote the Diaz brothers and because probably because of their social anxiety
You guys got to remember it’s 2018 shits way different he’s speaking from a different time I remember 1996 to 1999 growing up shit was crazy as a kid I seen 2 people die one od and one shot and those just the one I seen.. I get where he coming from but it’s kinda cringy
Pankration yeah but it was wayyyyyyy worse everything is being gentrified no what I mean i grew up in San Bernardino high murder rate but it’s way better then it used to be
I lived in Montebello and east la. It was worse in the 90s when i was in high school. My friends still live in the same neighborhood and its not as bad. Hipsters took over a lot of the bad areas.
Give you lives to God he is you're true Father, i have been to Heaven in the spirit and i got to talk to Jesus Christ face to face. God always win, please repent all, and pray give your life to Jesus Christ.
21:49 Thats wild. Thats it, the truth behind his drive and determination. He’s just a guy who wants his fathers love and approval at the end of the day. Inspiring stuff. T-city 🇺🇸 🇲🇽
I Hallucinate half of my finger got bitten off when 6 guys jumped on me and I was grabbing one of them by his throat and wasn’t letting him go. He moved my hand of his throat and bit my finger right off !
I Hallucinate haha I said it’s no big deal as these sort of shit happens. Not gonna tell my life story now. Btw have you had half a finger bit off by someone?? I tell you what missing half a finger by some with their teeth 🦷 hurts more than bullet on your arm! But as I said no big deal.
Regardless where you grew up kids, Apply yourself into something you love and go far in life. He's not a thug he's a success story that made it out of a harsh environment. Dont be scared homie !
this is great i loved this interview, perfectly titled too. i wish more fighters would come out with their amateur records like he did, i didnt know he was 11-0 as an ammy with 11 finishes thats dope
@@chriscg619 Do you have a shortlist? Who's at the top? Ariel would have to be considered. I personally like Mindenhall and Al Shatti from MMAFighting, but there are definitely others who are great.
I love how Ortega acts like he grew up in some war torn country or grew up in extreme poverty as a gangster in the worst parts of LA. I know exactly where he grew up, it’s definitely far from the worst.
Such a inspirational story I’m sure T City has some traumatic issues from the hood from fighting to seeing his friends dying inches from him he’s right he’s already won and I totally get that old school Mexican father mentality my grandfather was like that very rough and you question it thanks ESPN ,Brett ,and for sharing this story T City is a good guy living in some hard conditions and he made just wanted to make it people may troll and just think of him as being a thug but that’s far from the truth and @brett @ESPN how dare you.. Ortegas family was sheltering him but at the end of the day TCity made a choice #AndNew!
killanige49 dumbass you realize his parents are from Mexico right?? he has said it time and time again and his dad is brown, he gets his lighter features from his mom but she's from Mexico too, if you weren't so close minded and did your research you would realize about 25 percent of people in Mexico are light skinned with European features from past Spanish ancestry but that still doesn't make them less Mexican if their families have been there for generations, Brian is a first generation American but his family and their culture is from Mexico which is why he is indeed Mexican American, go on his IG so you can see how much he reps the Mexican flag.
He has not seen the worst of worst. This is not Ghana or Liberia or Somalia. No American can say they seen the worst of worst. They should be lucky to have all the luctaures they have.
I am from Congo. I am happy to live in America. The best country in the world. In Congo we have no option to escape the constant war, poverty and over all brutal violence. We have no way to escape. We don't have clean water, medical treatments, schools, food etc. Social Services etc. Kids are forced to grow up very fast or else risk death. There's no where in America that anyone can compare to Congo, Liberia or Somalia. The kids in America who live in the Ghetto are spoiled kids, acting up. They have plenty of options yet they want to shoot people for fun. So, people, please be thankful to live in a country where anyone can have the opportunity to change the direction of their lives. The ghettos in America are heaven in many parts of Africa.
Warrior-of-Love 43 people expect some stereotypical cholo or even Nate Diaz character to tell these stories but because he’s kind of a cool humble sounding quiet surfer dude that doesn’t talk shit, their brains can’t compute but in reality there’s thousands growing up around that culture that don’t fit the stereotype and that grow out of that lifestyle.
Brian Ortega did not take down Max Holloway not once Max Holloway got in his head and said oh let's just fight to strike First Strike let's see who's the best man at striking obviously would have been the max Holloway Brian Ortega could have beaten and defeated Max Holloway if you would have taken the fight to the ground in the story
@@ashketchup9555 exactly, or surfer. They are pushing the whole Mexican barrio narrative or however you spell that. Meanwhile Max is in Hawaii dodging iceheads and Dog the bounty hunter lol
Ortega ain't a gangster, he's a regular dude that grew up in the streets and from the hood. Just like anyone from the rough area of any city. Ortega, you have a fan for life outta me just because off how you grew up. I feel ya homie.
Brian is a cool dude, been watching him since before ufc. One of his homies was my next door neighbor, talked to him many times. Nice guy for sure. And new
Low income apartments look like Luxury. Clean quiet neighbourhoods. Come to a council estate in the uk you will see smelly unkept box houses, fridges and mattresses dumped everywhere and snotty nosed toddlers running around alone lol.
He’s a good kid , he’s no gangster , how much work did this BJJ black belt put in. Jeremy Stephens spoke about that soft gangster shit earlier. All this homies in the hood bullshit. Kevin Lee’s another one, educated , puts on a fake hood slang. The UFC loves promoting this kids that watched shootings and took em as their own. This kids a good kid from a good home that did shit that kids from the suburbs did.
so what are these kids shooting each other for? is it just mucho dominance territorial culture, or is there some business theyre all involved in and compete against each other? like selling drugs, hookers, guns?
Obviously you bitches dont know about the H.A.! There's more to it than what the homie put out so watch your fuckin mouth! If you dont know about it dont speak about it...thats just street law.
“I was running the track….and I don’t know why but even though he’s always been quite he’s like my motivation. And I’m running the track and it’s like 11:30 at night there’s no one there it’s all empty and I’m running… I may sound like a weirdo, But I keep seeing him standing there in the bleacher looking at me and every lap I do it it’s the same head nod he’s always did and I was on my 4th mile and I felt like quitting and I look up and I just see him there and I’m like no you can’t fail your dad, like you can’t fail him.” - Brian T City
Just fight already man. It's been over a year. I should say 2 years like all the Conor haters do. Since it was 2018. But I take December into account. So about 14 months. People start to forget. And he pulled out of KZ fight where frankie got slaughtered. Maybe another fight too. Cant remember
Huge respect from Ireland. Best of luck to Brian in his future. " it is not those who can inflict the most but those who can endure who will conquer" The great Terence Macswiney.
No guns. I always like to learn about the hype fighters. Didn’t know much about him, so I watched. It’s like he’s stuck in teenage thug phase still. He should’ve kept the mysterious pretty boy killer persona. He was on the border of glorifying guns and killing the way he talked about some of his experiences that’s all.
@@shawnwimberly9294 Dog round 3 was one of the greatest title rounds I’ve ever seen, top 5 easily. Round of the year for sure, Volk didn’t earn my respect… he took it 😂😂
I can't wait for this fight! I honestly won't be surprised with whoever wins. I give Max the slight advantage if he is 100%. As long as Max stays on the outside, moves in and out quickly and avoids the clinch then Max should take it by decision. If Ortega can land that vicious uppercut and tie Max up in the clinch then I think Ortega will find his neck or arm. Both are absolute killers, there hasn't been such an even title fight like this in a while in my opinion. I'd give a limb to be in Canada this weekend.
won't be a title fight, because max will not make weight, watch. the only way he was making 145 is by water loading with distilled water before cutting, which is dangerous as fuck and what made him sick last time. this will be a catchweight (and thus non-title) fight if ortega takes it, and holloway will have 5-10 pounds on ortega, so he will probably take the decision. otherwise, if somehow he does make weight, he will be nowhere near 100%.
