You DON'T NEED A CAR to Get To Pearl Harbor from Waikiki - Taking the $3 City Bus to the Memorial 

Was on vacation and my friend and I had to use city bus but we didn’t know when to get off at our hotel. So we asked the bus driver to tell us when to get off. so almost everyone was off the bus and we asked him have we got to our stop yet and he said oh my God I forgot about you, so he finished his route and took us back to our hotel before going back to the bus barn. Glad he was a nice guy.

Pearl Harbor memorial was a very somber experience for us. Seeing real navy sailors on tender boats was nice. Thankfully we never got on the wrong trains in Washington DC Metro. I got paranoid making sure to catch the right one when at the staion where north/south and east/west tracks crossed.

When I was there 6 months ago, you could bring a small clear bag - sort of like the stadium clear bags that seem to be required everywhere. I had no problem and it fit my cell, sunglasses and a couple of other things.

I was fortunate enough to go to visit Pearl harbor after I graduated from high school it was one of the most meaningful and honorable things I've ever witnessed and got to see in my life! ❤🙏🏻

Took a train to Versailles, or so we thought. After some time, we realized we were on the wrong train. We got off in a little village and decided to walk around for a while to see what we could. It was fun, and I had a great time. I actually enjoyed it more than Versailles. So many fewer folks.

Be sure to check the bus schedule as buses are not frequent. We were staying nexr door to your accomodation so I guess we got on at the same stop. We had a multiday pass for the bus. On trip back there was a very strange lady on the bus - a regular I guess because the driver had some words about her after she got off.

I was ready to hit Waikiki with my little dog, and then I remembered the misery of the long flights and the jet lag.

Except for airport, Oahu has been a really long time...Thank you, I still need to do this and what an wonderful sweet way to do it. Thank you for re-aquainting me and educating all of us. I loved your hotel..not the one originally thought it was...take care until the next one...Oh lost..age 20 and eurrail pass in France, first -class student pass 2 weeker for spring break in 1980..Junior in college year. Annnd i get a 4 person couchette I thought for toward Biarritz in Nice and ooops..I am going to Spain and just have to get off at little town late and night and thankfully found a good and safe enough room on land...what a time..safer when wise and God takes care of fools...staying on known lit areas with ideas from station and hitel was a lit 3 star next door, but had leaky plumbing but not the toilette..that was the worst and not bad.

I got on the wrong bus at the Tokyo airport, but fortunately the leader of the tour I was on caught it before the bus left ! Probably wouldn’t have mattered since the tour group on that bus was going to the same hotel.

In the early 90s, we were in El Paso, TX, and wanted to walk into Mexico. We missed the spot for parking and ended up driving into Mexico. Luckily, we were able to turn around and go back over the border so we could park and actually walk into Mexico, but not before people tried to chase us down on bicycles to get us to pay for a tour 😂

I have a friend living in Hawaii and asked about the ‘white banana’. Being an Aussie I had no clue lol. Anyway I found a book on Amazon called Hawaii cooks with Spam and got two copies, one for me and one for them. Best recipe is Spamish Rice. 🤣

So typically European using public transport...lol...when I lived in Oahu the bus system was a main mode of transportation for the people who worked in the hospitality industry. Living in Hawaii is extremely expensive even then and since everything was imported the prices were inflated even more. We were in the military so the government paid to ship 1 of our vehicles from Virginia to Oahu and we paid for the 2nd to be shipped from LA...it was about 800.00 and took about 10 to 14 days. While we were there, there was a bus strike. It dragged on for 3 months and people were really hard pressed to find ways to get to work in Honolulu. During the strike it got out that the bus drivers were making 25.00 an hour...this was in 2002! Since the average hotel worker was making less than 1/2 of that sympathy for the strikers evaporated and they ended up settling in arbitration. A gallon of milk was 6.99 and a steak in a restaurant was easily 25.00. We were fortunate because we had government housing, no utilities and were able to buy groceries and gas on the bases. I missed out on being able to take a MAC flight( military air craft ) to Singapore because of a outbreak of bird flu. Hawaii is a very special place...❤

I love to see cities where I visit the way locals live so I try to ride public transit at least once. I did this horribly in Phoenix when I decided to ride to the smaller airport and didn't get directed to the bus that stopped on airport property, but on one that locals walked a couple of miles to get to the airport. I'm a walker so that wasn't an issue...dragging my rolling luggage beside me the entire time however. Let's just say it was hilarious to the locals picking up food for lunch on the way to work. 😂

That's some lunacy because the MTA here 🗽 is gouging us. Hawaii is cheaper than it is here.
