People should realise there is a difference between us as regular consumers, watching RU-vid, and you as a content creator. If you tell us we don't need a certain product, and you own it yourself, it still is true what you told us about why we don't need it. Don't let the comments get you down, me and lots of people enjoy these video's so much! Thank you for making them!
I avoid buying anything new by getting out seasonal sequined festive bags, filling with what suits seasonally. Fun, need to USE all that I have already loved enough to buy. One bag is just shimmer/glitter/chrome-my fav. Shop your own stuff! Hope this helps someone. I fall so hard for makeup.
I love your lecture on why we don’t need IT. I am 68 and experimenting again. But, I had a color analysis done and know the colors best on me. A few Tom Ford palettes can be mixed for great looks. Less is actually much more beautiful on a woman than loads of makeup. Spend money on good skin care. This means doing research because you don’t need $100 face creams.
I have fallen in love with the serums by The Ordinary. I used to spend hundreds of dollars on one bottle of serum. But now I can get a better one for $10-20. And they make a variety so you can add a few drops of different ones to address what your skin needs that day and still spend less than you would on something else. For higher priced anti-aging, try the Acyl Glutathione and Cold Plasma products from Perricone MD. Pricey but you'll see results.
PLEASE continue making these videos! Not only are they funny and entertaining, they are actually really useful to reframe the conversation of what we 'need.' These videos, along with similar ones from Hannah Louise Poston, have been really helpful for me to retrain my beauty purchasing habits. I'm still on a journey, but these kinds of videos are helpful to keep perspective. THANK YOU!!!
Charlotte you are amazing 👏 this series is genius 🙌 i will say I'm surprised you had to explain why you do this series, how do people not understand that your helping us, i don't think they realise that if your a content creator you will have way more makeup than the average person because it's part of the job, i can tell you now your channel and many others have saved me alot of money, when I'm thinking of purchasing a product I'll watch multiple videos then I'll have a cooling off period of like month and then if I'm still thinking about it then I'll buy it. This series really makes you ask yourself do i need that, especially when you say things like if the pretty embossing wasn't on there would you still want it, and 9 times out of 10 it's a no i wouldn't. So me personally i want to thank you for this series, all your hard work and all the money you have saved me 🥰
agree, honestly, I think her buying, demonstrating the products is her JOB--that is the point of her videos, she found something she loves to do. It is up to me to decide if it might work for me
I am forever torn between trying to downsize my collection to only the well used staples, and failing to resist ✨everything shiny✨ - the amount of champagne eyeshadows I have thus far somehow justified is wild. So thank you, this video is incredibly helpful - especially your stern looks at the camera 😆
Easiest pass that ever existed are the Charlotte Tilbury single eyeshadows. Plus: every new product you buy, means less quality time with the products you already own and love.
I love this series! My reason for not buying face palettes is that it's almost certain to have at least one shade that I know from the beginning won't work on me, such as a warm toned blush or something unusual like purple or fuchsia blush. Now instead of 6 products that make me think it's a deal, there are only 5. Out of that 5, the bronzer will always be too dark if the blush isn't dark enough, and vice versa. I'm down to 3 or 4 usable products if I notice the highlighter is going to be too dark/glittery/gold toned to look good, which it usually is. What seemed like a good deal at first is actually about 50% wasted money before I even get it home. Would I buy a pack of steaks if I knew I'd throw half away as soon as I got home? Of course not.
Thank you for these videos. I’m a firm believer in “buy what ya want” but it’s good to know WHY you “want” it. And I must say…packaging gets a lot of us 😂
Please do not stop creating this series! I look forward to every video for the entertainment and also help save me a lot of money when I’m tempted to purchase most of the releases!
This is the first video of yours I have ever watched, and I immediately subscribed because you're the first beauty creator who has encouraged their viewers NOT to buy something!! Thanks for this series, I think it's important to think about overconsumption and how much we spend on beauty products
I absolutely adore this series. 😍 I don't understand why you would receive nasty comments for the cosmetics you purchase? You have a You Tube beauty channel, so isn't that the point? Thank you for all the hard work you do.
I wish you didn't have to explain and do a disclaimer because DUH! Of course you have the makeup, you do reviews for us to help decide! This series is amazing and genius 🥰 and you are hilarious and gorgeous❣On a side note, I can't help but picture an eye look on you with the new Tom Ford Violet Satin quad paired with that beautiful muted purple top you're wearing...😍😍😍
When you do one of these you always make me smile. You’re so full of conviction. And so funny at the same time. And I love that you can look so beautiful in makeup, and be such a good ambassador and content creator, and still fearlessly remind us that most of us are consumers who do not use make up for a living and can’t justify spending our entire monthly budget on it. Beyond the budget, there’s the sustainability consideration. I have bought new palettes, lipsticks etc. with excitement, only to toss the item virtually unused a year later. That makes me feel bad. I don’t want to feel bad. You help. Thank you!
Please don't ever stop this series! It Really is helpful for those of us trying to stick to a low buy or a no buy! I've also found just not browsing over my morning coffee is also a great deterrent!
I'm so grateful that CT's face palette was advertised so early because I had already talked myself out of it by the time it was available. Had it been released the day after my impulsiveness may have won. If she included her cream bronzer instead of one of her highlights then I would have had to get it!
I’m older and have very droopy hooded eyes and learned my lesson a few years ago on using sparkly, shiny shadows and now can pass by most large palettes because I can’t/won’t use most of the shades. Thank you for this series and helping talk us down from FOMO purchases.
I'm not on a low buy, and I'm not really looking for you to talk me out of anything. I just really appreciate your opinion and how you express it! I've already talked myself out of many things and i plan to wait for the sephora sale for some other things. Keep doing this series!
I just bought wet’n’wild eyeshadow palettes, ELF palettes and a LA Girl palette which are in yellow, orange and pink colors that I did not have. I’m happy. 7 palettes of exciting new colors for $40. I’m not a blush person and I have more than enough highlighter to last the rest of my life. I buy mascara, eyeliner and brow pencil when I run out. Lipstick and pencil are holding up well as I alternate between my favorite colors. I hoarded, I experienced and I’m done.
Charlotte, thank you so much for making this video. I’m not a makeup collector, but the information here still applies. For many years now I have been a kitchen gadget Holick. I love them, I love the commercials, and will readily admit, that I get sucked in. Recently, though, I pulled away back, on both my consumption of that media, and buying all the things I think I need. The instant pot, and the air fryer are perfect examples of this, convenient, yes, but taking real shortcuts, sacrificing technique, and for what. I’m sure, for people who are very busy, and burning the candle at both ends, this works very well. However, I got sucked in because I didn’t like the idea of being so Stuck in the kitchen all day, however, spending more time with real techniques, and real kitchen equipment, has help me come back to reality. Again, thank you.
when buying a makeup tips to avoid waste (my general list): if you still have one, don't buy another of the same type, you simply don't need it, you'll just end up with one extra makeup that you'll not even use and just let it waste, finish using before buying a new one. for eyshadows, I already have a pallet range that works for me, so I make sure that the one i'm buying has them and don't have a color I won't use. Also, for a more colorful pallete, one big and more variated one OR buy two small but fairly variated palette with colors you're sure you'll use excluding color you don't like, either cases, be aware of similar colors of different tonalities, if they're actually necessary or if they're on color you don't really use at all. about base and foundations, look, you don't need and actually shouldn't be wearing three or five thick layers of fondation on a daily basis, it's damaging, you're basically harming your skin and then you'll end up buying many skincare products to compensate, so be careful abut it another thing that's worth keeping in mind is that many products has similar uses, for example, i wear lip tint, It works amazingly as blush, on my eyeshadow pallete, there's a glittery beige that I can wear as high lighting, I don't use eye pencils because I can wear a mascara and my dark brown eyeshadow on my eyebrow instead
I can not tell you how you much you help me. I just discovered you a few weeks ago, not a moment too soon. I have bipolar and o.c.d. and I go thru periods of mania and nonstop buying and overspending. I get therapy for it but your videos help me more. You make so much sense and made me stop and realize I can take a breath and think about what I am doing. So this is a note of thanks and to ask you to please keep posting these videos for those of us who are in desperate need of them. Hugs from Ohio, U.S.
Please KEEP MAKING THESE VIDEOS ❤ You are literally helping us dodge bad makeup shopping decisions. It is not hypocritical - you have a better grasp of value because of the nature of your job and you share the results of your testing. We love to see it!
I love these videos too! Not only are they hilarious, but they also help me stop and think. I did buy the CT palette and the PML 2 5 pans. Your so right! I have gone back and forth on the CT pops- but you eyeballed me and called ME out!! 😂😂😂 yes, I have this shade 😢! Saving the 💸. Omg I really want a Gucci blush. I’m waiting for the Sephora sale. ❤😊🥰
I love these videos! And I really needed for all the wrong reasons. I have been underwhelmed by the Christmas releases and I find myself trying to talk myself into liking them! I don't need them!
I’m a university student. I commute between an apartment in a city and my parent’s house on the country side. I have 2 eyeshadow palettes, one in each place. They’re decent quality and fit my taste. I’m perfectly happy with that. Great video!
I just love this series, please don’t stop! Just sheer brilliance!!! There is a massive between us regular consumers vs. intent creators, we don’t need half of what we have. You guys are doing a job so it’s very very different!!
Charlotte, I've only just found you today and already LOVE your content. I feel SEEN and empowered to do what I already know I need to do... STOP buying into the marketing hype and piling up products I'll never use in three lifetimes. I don't know how I've missed you, but I'm going nowhere and I'm a very happy brand new subscriber. I've just recommended you to all of my friends as well. THANK YOU!
I can’t believe you talked about Hourglass Face Pallet. I just learned about this product a few days ago. I had the Tiger pallet in my cart at Sephora, but I removed it. It’s 85$ U.S., and I can’t justify the purchase. It is very lovely, but I am going to keep an eye on a sale. I really want it, though. I just subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thank you so much! This is a hilarious 30 minutes watch! I love it. You've got me with, um, a few of those temptations ("we all love a good animal" 😅). I enjoy your style and your eloquence very much 😍
Her style is great. Funny, sarcastic... I really enjoy her videos. And I'm not even a huge make-up buyer! (I'm dangerously heavily into skincare though. My wallet knows this all too well)
Love this! The updated version of the old "anti haul' videos. Still true today. I could have picked apart the Pat McGrath mothership palette and the Charlotte Tilbury blush and highlight palette as well as you! congrats!
Omg I needed this so badly for those Charlotte tilbury palettes 😂🙏 i love this series so much please never stop it. Also loved when you showed the tiger pallet from the back 😂😂
Waking from the heavy socialisation that most females undergo, and realising that makeup is not magical transformative fairytale-princess pumpkin-carriage powder & potion as we've been told our entire life, is massively freeing. The delusions with which we're implanted from the cradle are really insidious when you notice them lurking in the psyche.
You actually made my day. I have been watching videos from this series all the afternoon. I am home, sick. COVID hit me and I am not feeling well at all. So I just wanted to say thank you, because these videos are fun fun fun. And you are great. Never thought to be a comedian? I find the way you present things hilarious. Special thanks, again, and love from Italy. Rita 😅
I, for one, really appreciate these kinds of videos! They very informative and allows me to pick and choose from the overly saturated holiday releases. Comparisons and duplication of products narrows the margin for me. Besides the last time I checked, I have a mind of my own and that ought to count for something! 🤷♀️
I love antihaul videos and this was hell of a good one! Thank you for your refreshing commentary and admitting that these products are beautiful (and not just bagging them out) but telling us to think about our own collection first. Thank you for all your advice!
I live these. I am the person who needs this because I am drawn in soooo easy and your analysis really benefits me. Keep them coming beautiful young lady!!!!!
Charlotte- Thank you SO much for this!! I really was starting to become overwhelmed with all the new releases coming out and knowing I’d be on a really tight budget this year but you’re honest, caring, and straightforward message really means a lot. Please continue this series! Thank you for all you do! Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed or underappreciated. God bless! ❤️
I love this series! Just discovered you and you telling me what I don’t need is so refreshing! Especially compared to most RU-vidrs telling me how great everything is and what to buy. Great job !
Not going to lie, came back here to re-watch this ahead of the Sephora Rouge sale and my desire for one of the Hourglass holiday palettes 😁. Also, going to go ahead, ignore Charlotte's sage tough love, and buy Tiger as my makeup collection is in storage in another state & all my Hourglass items are in there 😛😆. You tried valiantly, Charlotte, and saved me from the PML holiday palette though, at least, so thank you 😇. Love you 🥰😘!
You are so right, the beautifull pallettes and the packaching suck me in. And I don't even use make up. Eyebrow pencil and a lipbalm and thats it for me. So I will just keep watching the make up revieuws, add some amazing products in my basket and remove them again. Just for the fun off it.
I’m the one who’s watching your video for the very first time - I guess I’ve been living under the rock 🙈 But the title of your video just caught my attention and I couldn’t stop watching you - love your sense of humor and the whole idea of the video - as a first timer I enjoyed it so very much! Thank you!
I like this series a lot, it reinforces my own "don't buy that". ❤️ But I just wanted to say about the Pat McGrath blush palette.... I don't have the blushes in single because they are expensive! I actually have the blush palette from last year's holiday collection. If I didn't have that, I would get this year's blush palette to be able to have several shades for less $$. Just sayin, as someone who never buys during new releases and typically waits for a sale before even thinking about making any purchase ☺️
I'm completely with you! And I'm so glad I didn't go for the single or duo blushes, hoping for some good holiday face pallets. 🎨 I will buy one. - On sale, thank you very much, Charlotte. 😁
Me: Nods seriously during entire video Also me: Waiting for Charlotte to offer some kind of awesome gift with purchase so I can buy those damn eyeshadow singles
I'm watching the part about blushes - and actually the darkest red reminds me of the one by Dior I think, som time ago, with little sponge attached to the top. I tried it just for fun, thinking - my very light porcelain shade skin will just look ridiculous - and it looked divine. Sure, the dose maks it everything, so light hand is needed. I especially love using darker colours in winter, applying them lightly, it gives the lovely subtle yet defined look. Since the Dior blush I have tried a couple of dark blushes, I have one in my tiniest cosmetic pouch - a dark, almost plum coloured blush that can also go on my eyes and a shiny one to match and / or blend. These 2 small pans give me a well-combined, neutral and balanced look - I don't say "buy", just say - dark colours are great if you treat them well.
First of all, this is so much fun to watch! It's like Im at Sephora with a friend who's tough but fair and knows that I have too much makeup at home already. Second, i don't have anything from Patrick Ta, and those blushes do look nice, however in my experience any cream blush or eyeshadow in a palette like that either dries out before i can use it all or it gets powder fallout in it which makes it less pleasant to use.
THANK YOU!!! I can't afford expensive makeup, but those Charlotte Tilbury face palettes have been KILLING me since Trend Mood first showed them. And you're right! Two highlighters and a blush. I'm pretty sure I already have those similar colors, even if they aren't with the gorgeous embossing and packaging. Also, I'm so sick of rude comments on your channel. They're ruining it for the rest of us. Go away, rude commenters!
Hallo, thank you so much for this. You helped me so much. I have been in a very dark place and over buying tremendously trying to fill my life with the buying to feel happy instead of addressing the issue. Much appreciated I completely understand the message ignore the snarky keyboard commandos ! I think you are awesome and your videos fill a perfect spot in my watching routine for seeing Highend makeup and what is for me. Thank you ❤️ actually you are the only one I watch for exclusive Highend only and I appreciate that. Much love from US ❤️
I'm one of those folks who's never bought any of Pat McGrath's blushes because I couldn't justify spending that much on one single blush....but I'll mos def look for the blush palettes on sale since that's the only way I'll let myself buy Mother Makeup's blushes. :) Having said that, I absolutely LORVE your videos! All of them! And it's because of your personality! You're the kind of person I want to go prowling through alllll the makeup counters everywhere. 💖💖
PREACH Charlotte!!! I was in Seattle today and considered buying the Gucci blushes in a Sephora store. Then I remembered the Sephora sale starts late next week or something and I’m a Rouge member and I’ll get 20% off. I didn’t NEED it today. I can wait. This series is great!!!
Oh Charlotte, u just make me laugh!! Please don’t stop doing this series. You don’t know just how much this series has been helping many, more of a therapy!!
I needed this. I'm travelling, and I've been telling myself 'oh you absolutely need a palette to travel with' but I'm both brown skinned and picky. No one has made something I would use daily. Thanks for the reminder.
This is absolutely the best series. You make my day when this notification goes off. Don't ever stop. And p.s thank you for turning the hourglass package around, I sooo want it 😆
I don't get why people call you a hypocrite for owning those items you tell them not to buy. Like, sis, if you didn't try it yourself, how would you know whether it was good or not to give a recommendation?? If anything, it makes the recommendations even more authentic and genuine because you've purchased and used it to know the true experience! Keep doing you.
I needed to hear this thank you!!! I honestly only need ONE eye shadow pallet ever!! I hardly stray from my normal looks and never use the other ones I have 😢
Oh my goodness, this is THE BEST video I've seen so far this year 😍 I love your honesty and I know how hard it is to talk about it. I've used the cooling off period before and it works. That Hourglass palette is the hardest thing. Subscribed!
You have been retraining me well. Heard your voice in my head "You don't need that" on a few items before you showed them today. Thanks from my wallet on Huda, ABH, and Hourglass. Thanks for the retraining!!!!
I have been waiting for this video. I love this series. I have been so underwhelmed with this year's holiday releases and other releases. As for PML holiday collection, if she would've released the entire collection all at once i probably would've purchased a lot of the items but because she released them little by little I lost interest and am getting absolutely nothing. Maybe just maybe if something is discounted enough I might pick it up but that's all.
I absolutely adore this series!!! It makes one think about purchases as well as the humor component that you fully bring to this series. Love it! Even if I still want something I feel like I am making a better-informed decision. Thank you for these videos!!!!
Was so excited to see another "You Don't Need that" video. I already caved with the Gucci blush, I couldn't resist the packaging. Sigh.... sometimes it feels hopeless. I also want the Hourglass elephant palette but will hold myself back until I can get it on sale.
