I Love this Song and for a Long Time it was my favourite from TTWII . Sometimes my preferences changed from Time to Time but this Song and especially Elvis Version of it is under my Elvis top 50.
Another version where Elvis made the original artist, very, very rich via him performing it. Bob Dylan once said "highlight of my life? Elvis releasing one of my songs". That's how much Bob loved Elvis.

Dusty: solid voice, solid perfomance. It was her song. Sorry Dusty, it was! I can't help myself! 😖 How can you resist this guy! This voice, this charisma, this ability to make a song his own. His ability to make me feel it! His ability to make me forget who sang the song before. Like you said: he won already. A few notes and that's it!
I'm felt that her version was too slow so I never listened to it all then Elvis comes on he lights up the stage always makes you feel like you're there with him great ☺👌
Yeah, I gotta with Elvis Presley on this one man. Nothing against the original artist. She did great, no doubt! I You all saw that where she was trying to engage with the audience and that guy pulled her away. Vintage man, you come up with cool videos is all I'm trying to say! ❤.
I think what made Elvis' version was the tempo. Dusty's vocals were solid (per usual), but Elvis had an uncanny knack on how a song was supposed to be performed.
Having read these comments, I can only comment that the world has gone mad. Possibly the greatest female singer against a very good singer well past his best. really no comparison. The song is supposed to be sung slowly!!
I agree that according to these comments, the world has, indeed, gone mad. However, I wouldn't go as far as to say that Dusty Springfield was possibly the greatest female singer, but I definitely enjoy listening to her music and I think she has a fantastic voice. Having said that, I am a big Elvis fan. And I am going to get lambasted for this, but my opinion of this particular live version of his sucks. Dusty's studio version is fantastic. And so is her live version when she was younger. Now, looking at this live version of her's as she had gotten older, was not as good as her previous versions, but was still very, very good and, in my opinion, beat out Elvis. No two ways about it. Dusty owns this song!
Both are great. Look how many records she sold of it and made the song famous. She's also a little older here and past peak performance. I always 2-3 versions of a song can be great.

The King is the King... BUT from reading all these comments, I see there is a bit of ignorance regarding the derivation of this song, and not so sure a fair comparison can be drawn between these two very different artist, their style, background, and audiences. This song is an early 60’s song. The melody is from an Italian song that took Dusty two years to convince the the writer to sell her the song rights. Once she finally had the song rights, her team headed by Vicki Wickham had only one day to write the lyrics, one day to write the instrumentals, and one day for Dusty and her back up singers to learn it as well as the whole team to put it together. It was to be performed in front of the largest national British concert of the year. This original version is different and shows a much younger Dusty and her team in a bit of an awkward but outstanding first performance of this immediate international hit. Interesting how you can see Dusty looking over to her back up singers as their clue to bring in the chorus. Dusty's voice is nice. She definitely knows how to sing. However, Elvis' take on this song just has more snap and dynamics to it, and comes across less forced than Dusty's rendition.
The womans version is ok but Sounds to me more of an endig of a TV Gala or something. Elvis Version is more pure energetic and the Instruments Are better arranged and mixed.
Elvis never did a good live version of this song, in fact this is the best version. There is a lack of emotion, almost a throwaway. So springfield wins this 100% although elvis is the better singer.

@Penderyn Lewsyn I do like Dusty Springfield she had a good voice love Son of a preacher man plus that was my opinion of that song but each to their own I will say this to you there's no need to swear I don't see the point in doing it to me it's bad manners 👎
