I'm still kind of new to the hobby and I have a decent collection and there's nobody to talk to about it. You just get a weird look, especially from my wife

Often times I find the best deals but due to living in Canada the shipping absolutely kills💀

I feel your pain. I look for cards from Canada first for that reason and potential duties as well
@naturesepyon
@naturesepyon 3 месяца назад
@62spade Yup duties are brutal. Even cards sold in Canada, a $3 card will still be priced to $12 because it'll just still be the most affordable price on the Canadian market after you factor in american shipping. I wonder how much of the Canadian disadvantage moves the values on some of the lower cost cards, as they would still show up in solds. But probably dismissed as outliers, but at scale it may make some america sellers think the card is worth more.

Our local game stores in californa are up charging booster boxes and etbs and even cards . I walked into my local game store for a booster box and they wanted 121 for twilight mascarade when it first came out . And not to mention there sword and shield etbs were about 15 to 30 dollers over market value . They were charging an evolving skies etb for 300 dollers 😂 and it was the cheapest one they have on the market I think they go for 150 to 170 😂 and this was two local game stores . You really have to find things online now days to be honest and reliable ppl with good prices

For new people, I think you might be downplaying the psa hesitation. A lot comes down to money. Right now it costs $150 just to sign up, I think currently they are allowing “bulk” in 10 for right now at 13.99 plus shipping, so let’s say 15$.. that means for first submission at psa you need at least $300. Then eBay takes 13%, plus shipping.. so let’s say you lose 15% on eBay sales value. Means you need to sell each card at a minimum 36$ just to break even. Most people don’t have 10+ cards that are valued over 100$ and in psa 10 condition. So now let’s say you buy 5 of the 10 cards.. if you’re trying to get the 3 figures on it, you’re most likely paying ~20$ a card. So there’s an added minimum $100 .. and the reality is there’s 10% chance that all 5 cards from TCG or eBay would be actual quality to send in.. etc.. and if it’s not a popular Pokemon, it can sit in your inventory. Not saying it’s not possible.. but you can easily need $500-$1000 to start that process, and most likely lose money on at least the first submission

All valid points. I have never submitted cards for grading mainly because it doesn't interest me and I don't flip. That plus like you said, the money needed to just get the ball rolling is pretty substantial. I'd rather buy packs to rip with that, haha.

I started to sell on eBay and been getting sales the more things I post online. I noticed I make more money on new product then anything . Specially if your first to market with graded cards on new sets selling for premium prices before they drop in about 2 mknths after release . I’m in California and had no idea we had PSA in Orange County local to me and can just drive down there 😂

Bro, the way you so quickly rattled off the 3 ways to deceive your friends in this hobby was borderline evil genius, hahaha. It was pretty hilarious, man. Some noobs actually think they can make money from ripping packs feom Walmart, haha. I always tell them "If it was that easy, why would anyone work a regular job?" This was a really good stream! Totally relatable. A lot of people I talk to about the hobby could care less and it feels bad, man. I am in Rattle's Discord but I find Discord so draining. If I post something and it gets any kind of interaction, I feel like a dick if I don't respond in some way. The notifications are relentless. I can't keep up. That's kinda why I try to keep my conversations about the hobby on an IRL or email level. That one guy that sold his packs and whatever sealed product to the LGS for 65%... that's a bummer, man. The LGS had to know the liquidity of the stuff. Liquid in this hobby is still not exactly liquid, tho. It does take work and it does take time. I feel bad for the seller if he was in a bind and needed money now. That's one thing about this hobby and "community" (really strong emphasis on the quotation marks around community). As cool as a lot of people are, there are a lot of people that just blatantly take advantage of people. I get the store needs to make money but packs from the sets that were mentioned would sell fast. Real fast. Sorry for the stupid long comment. I just really liked the stream. This is what happens when you have a lot of hobby thoughts stuck in the head. Sometimes it just comes out like vomit. Haha!

Anyone willing to pay 85-90% is a fool. Go sell it yourself and see how many fees are involved. You will end up netting far less.

LGS buying at criminal prices is nothing new. I don't know if my LGS buys sealed from people, but he only offers tcgplayer trade in high for cards. I looked up the Umbreon V alt I just bought and it was less than 50% value at trade in high ($98 vs $198). Crazy.

I guess you are bringing up the national in part by commenters like me. Obviously I have heard about it many times by others. It's kinda in the Midwest I guess... Yes, I realize it has expanded to other tcgs other than just sports cards. However the videos I've seen suggested there was not a strong buy or trade scene there for pokemon. I have seen some insane sales there before where the sports vendors didn't even know what they had. But I'm more looking to offload stuff. I don't even have a venmo or cash app yet. So I'm gonna be super new to this. I'm going to bring some fairly "liquid" slabs mostly just to try and get ~80%. Maybe more for things over a few hundred. Even if I can't find a buyer I'm planning on having a great time. Also yea that 65% deal was such a ripoff. That guy offered low and the guy accepted... Not the owners fault that he accepted. But I would feel bad offering that, especially when he's talking about keeping it for his personal collection.

Pk... I have a celebrations charizard that is an error or something weird. Instead of the texture it normally has it has like a really fine sandpaper feel.almost like the texture was sanded down. It's 100% real card though not fake. All the classic collection cards in that lunch box were like that. Any advice on where to sell it or where would be best place to grade it? I'd rather not do cgc but that might be only option?

Imagine ostracizing someone for taking 65% all at once lmao. I don’t have to break down the shipping and fees math plus the local cash offers of 80-85% to prove that 65% is not that fucking bad. Get off your soapbox. I hope the dude who sold all his shit is doing good rn and either paid off his bills or added a grail to his collection.
