I was gassed at the Arena and I did some laps. Missed the Willow match and took a break to get food during the Jericho match. Sitting down for all 14 matches is detrimental
Naito absolutely does not try as hard on US shows. By his own admission he doesn't care about being a star in the west. And by his own admission has never watched any American wrestling. Which ironically makes me respect him more, because man openly does not give a fuck.
This is true, but I also think it's that he just doesn't care about AEW. His bout with Moxley at NJPW Strong's Windy City Riot in front of about half the crowd in attendance for Forbidden Door was actually good.
@@ItDoesntMatterReally he doesn't. He didn't care on ROH shows back in the day either. He works hard in Mexico though, he just isn't interested in American wrestling. When he feuded with Jericho he kept insulting him by saying he knows nothing about him except he was in Best of the Super Juniors.
@@parsath_2584 Someone also pointed out last year in his multi-man bout at Forbidden Door he came out in the dreaded t-shirt and took fewer bumps than Sting. Didn't even grace the crowd with a Destino finish. Love me some petty Naito antics.
Punk had creative control too, and he was talked into winning the title (which he didn't really want), so I'm not too worried about Mercedes. She's not Hogan, and I'm not too concerned about her abusing it. If you're not worried about the Bucks, you should pay no mind to this
@@raduconstantin7289 no that’s literally creative control. You can control or influence creative. No creative control means Chad Gable being Shorty G or The Fiend losing to Goldberg. Neither Gable or Bray wanted to do it, but did it anyways because “no creative control”.
WWE getting hot and improving has really shown how much people didn't want an alternative. They just wanted WWE to be good, and that's fine. They should just stop watching because they sour it for those of us who are really enjoying what AEW is doing.
Brian Zane even mentioned this in his "Monday Night Impact" video a month or 2 ago. The mindset with fans wasn't this will help grow TNA. It was "competition will make RAW better."
People view wrestling through a more limited lens than other forms of media. There's room for both Hollywood Blockbusters and indie films to have an audience. There's room for Taylor Swift and Dream Theater to be considered successful whilst appealing to radically different demographics. But because pro wrestling has been a monopoly for over 20 years, some people think the WWE way is the objectively right way.
4 hours for the big shows is fine, but for a show like forbidden door(which I feel is lesser than shows like all in and double or nothing) should be around 3 hours.
He argued that it's Forbidden Door so it should be filled with exhibition matches. It's a PPV. You would think that people want the matches on PPVs to feel different from regular weekly television (where exhibition matches with other promotions also happen), so the matches on PPVs should push a story forward or end a story.
yeah Sanada and Evil are the only other two it seems that are at the top, but they didn't deliver the numbers apparently. Naito was super awesome, haven't seen him wrestle in a while, though. Haven't watched New Japan in a while either. It is in a rebuilding period, that is for sure.
Pretty much anything past or current LIJ is over right now in New Japan. Shingo, Sanada, Naito, even young Tsuji. I think Evil's starting to wear out his welcome with the HoT antics though. Did it enough to get he and Moxley voted out of the Dominion main event.
I wouldn't put the belt back on Sanada, they pulled the trigger on him WAY too late! once he left LIJ and joined J5G his draw and star power just kinda...fell off, and that's coming from someone who was a huge fan of his. I know he's still young but put the belt on Umino, give him a run and see how it goes, cause the audience love Shota.
Mone is absolutely the Hulk Hogan of the women’s division. She’s a double champion after only 3 matches and is immediately getting a championship celebration ceremony on Dynamite this week; whereas when Swerve won the world title, he didn’t get his celebration until the Collision after the PPV
I was excited for MJF's return and they have really let me down. Now they are going to feed another returning original to Sasha😂 wtf are they thinking. They make it hard to care when the people you want to see are wasted.
Tsuji's won NJ Cup and had two world title matches already, so I'd say he's technically main event. I don't know what the deal with Zack is. He seems loyal, but maybe he doesn't draw domestically. There also might be a fear he wont draw globally either. Kidd's only been in NJPW proper for a little over a year now, and while he's great in-ring and has an awesome persona, he's not a draw for western fans who aren't already watching or Japanese fans just yet. Titan splits time between NJPW and CMLL, but does awesome when he shows up for junior tourneys. I think after the Dominion debacle they're starting to value juniors more, especially now that the heavyweight division is lackluster. I kind of want this year's G1 to bypass the R3M and other young hopefuls involved just so Naito can win and challenge Hiromu for Wrestle Kingdom. Everything LIJ past and present is over in Japan, and Hiromu's very deserving of his flowers. His goal all year has been a title shot against Naito. I say give it to him.
I got a hot take, Mercedes Mone is the current WCW Hulk Hogan in the women's division. It seems like she has to have a championship to prove herself that she's the best of all time.
I don't even like AEW but I watch the PPVs so I know what Cornette is talking about 😂 Shingo vs Bryan was awesome, and I dig that Stephanie Vaquer a lot
@@mike112789 that's part of it. I'm also addicted to keeping up with it, even though I stopped watching weekly in 2007. Like an abusive ex I swear will change back to being good to me one day. But I know better.
Jim is awesome! I think Shingo vs Danielson was okay and Stephanie Vaquer carried the entire match against Mercedes, but what a great wrestler she is👏🏻
MJF has the same problem Bray Wyatt had back then, long drawn out promos with no substance and a character that goes nowhere. hopefully he gets an engaging story soon. Vaquer&Mone seemed to have no real chemistry. Vaquer was great but Mone fumbled all over the match.
I dont understand people complaining about the zero hour, like dont watch it? its free on youtube and twitter and if there is a match that intrests you, watch it later then?
@@thevoicelesswriter This I can agree on but to say it was a 15 matches card when 5 of them are on the zero hour and pretend that u cant skip them is a bit disingenuous.
I think MJF has peaked in AEW. He'd have been way better received if he'd gone somewhere new like New Japan or WWE. Punk comparing him to Miz was on the money because if he doesn't leave AEW or wildly reinvent himself soon, I see him settling into the same rut that the Miz has mostly been in since his failed world title run: sporadic bursts of "yeah this guy is really good at character stuff, why did he fall down the card?" in between years-long stretches of do-nothing midcard goofiness.
After hearing TK say he is happy with creative I fear my personal deadline of ALL IN will mean no more AEW for me. I'm just tired of hoping for change and TK being delusional.
Khan is terrified of not getting his entire roster on a card so he doesn't get upset employees. And also doesn't want his multi million dollar investment in Mone having boo boo job face with her losing to Baker.
Do you ask why they hold a show in London, which Americans can't attend? Or are you actually capable of understanding that there's an international audience?
It's a gift to fans that actually know these people. The maniacs that hit the net and watch/stream/download foreign shows and indy shows/ppvs. I think it's dope that they acknowledge they people exist instead of acting like American wrestling is the ONLY wrestling. If it's not for you don't watch...it's literally that easy.
@@parsath_2584 No because the show in London is intended to feature people who actually work there. It’s just getting them in front of a an international audience that doesn’t get to see them live very often. Putting your top talent in matches with people your audience doesn’t know is the exact opposite of that. And it’s not bringing in new eyes because everyone who knows who these people are is already watching AEW anyways.
I feel Mone is either really lucky or really good and she isn’t good. Her being strong champion is not believable and her squashing people that could eat her for breakfast and spit her out.
Wwe manipulate the pop and boos, sometimes i see a dead crowd, but there is huge pop and some people join the sound. Heyman segment was very good. But keep this in mind. Plus just look at the difference between wwe crowd and aew crowd, wwe crowd is mostly kids and their families.
Zero Hour is for those who didn't buy the PPV. As for the live attendance, they can check when the actual PPV starts on cable TV and then plan to arrive just before then. Problem solved.
@4:30 - i would definitely say its within the realm of possibility that she has creative control and that she might actually be Hoganing this. This is the same chick who was manipulating Vince to get her way in WWE... so its not out of the question that she would have duped Tony for creative control. He gave it to Punk, i dont doubt that he would give it to other big ex wwe guys.
MJF not being a heel the second he came back blows my mind. Adam Cole betraying MJF should have made him the most hateful version of Max we've ever seen but instead they pretend that whole story never happened. Now that I think of it I don't even know the last time I saw any of Undisputed Kingdom on TV
You obviously don’t watch. What you said makes 0 sense, MJF addressed Cole, and kingdom was featured last week and on pre show, with a video package online after PPV.
@@mike112789 I know MJF addressed Adam Cole but that's part of the problem. This was AEW's primary story last year and obviously both of their injuries got in the way but the fact that it has had absolutely 0 effect on MJFs character makes no sense. Also didn't watch the preshow or see their online clip so I'll admit that's on me
