Ikrani are you sure? Most older Metal musicians are fans of rock. Rob Halford liked Queen, and Ozzy Osbourne liked the Beatles. I think Chris Barnes is a fan of AC DC
Ali Jr. But they didn't switch to rock, did they? My point is that if they grew out of it, they would've stopped playing it. Besides, all roads in rock lead to Chuck Berry, so arguing over "Yeah, but this guy's a fan of ____" would never end. It pretty much all started from the same guy.
Tbh metal feels more like an adults type of music anyway. Especially the more extreme genres, kids/teens never like that shit because they can't hear what they're saying. Every kid/teen I've spoke to about death/black etc metal all say "it's just noise, that's not music, it's just screaming" while they love Nu-metal and the likes. You have to have an acquired taste to enjoy that type of music, and kids/teens usually are too closed minded and lack enough attention span to develop acquired tastes.
I have a son, I'm married, I'm 32 years old, I've been listening to metal for over 17 years and I remember being a teenager when everyone told me I'd grow out of it. Well, I honestly don't believe I ever will. I'm a metalhead, it's a huge part of me and metal is as important to me as breathing. I know people who "grew out" of metal, but everyone is different, I don't judge. However I think if you really love something, it will always be with you no matter what.
Metal is pure energy. It cannot disappear or vanish,it can only change its shape, just like the taste for heavy metal,it is pure passion and energy,it can only change.
Arch Mage. My questipn to you is: Why aren't there any Wiccan metal bands ? Godsmack has onlt one member who is a Wiccan .One Wiccan member , doesn't a Wiccan metal band make !
Arch Mage yeah, I started with Skillet and Slipknot then I started listening to death metal and lot of bands like Cannibal Corpse,... (I still listen to Slipknot :3)
Metal will never die. I first discovered it when I was 9 and continue to love it at the age of 16. Not just music, it's a way of life. Any metal musician would tell you that.
I grew up listening to metal because my dad was a huge fan of Metallica and slayer. I'm 18 now and my music taste is pretty broad, I love classical music I also play in a band and orchestra. I also sort of like rap. But metal will always be my favorite. Currently, my favorite band is Acid Bath
LMFAO oh you're such a tough guy. Your gonna split my skull over RU-vid, eh? Look out everyone Yuri the poser police is online!! The kid who listens to Trivium, Mastodon, and Lamb of God while watching Spongebob and jacking off to SssniperWolf is so true and brutal! He'll fuck all posers up!! Are you counting some of these 30,000 bands from things you heard when you were 2? How about what you heard in the womb too, do you count those? In reality you've been a metal fan for four years tops, musical taste doesn't start forming until you hit the age of 14, that's just psychology and science, look it up. You can look at Metal Archives all you want, every metal fan does, but seriously no you haven't listened to 30,000 bands. That's a bald faced lie, no one believes that. Since you know my avatar is Leviathan, you'd think you could put 2 and 2 together and see I'm a black metal fan not a death metal fan. I've got plenty of blackened death, but straight death not so much. I don't give a shit about the rapey blood and guts starter bands you listen to. That's metal for pimple faced, angst ridden, sexually frustrated teenagers. If your mommy and daddy saw some of that album artwork on your page you might get in trouble. : 0 I tried being nice to you, because you're just a stupid kid, but you seriously need to learn how not to be such an insufferable lying cunt. : )
*If you want to pretend that you're two different people then you shouldn't respond to my reply to Yuri with Psychosadistic, you idiot.* By the way Mr. Underground you can't get anymore mainstream in metal than Mastodon, Trivium, Lamb of God, and Pantera. Did your daddy let you stay up past your bed time to watch Mastodon on The Tonight Show? Does he buy you your band tees from Hot Topic too?
I used to listen to bands like korn and slipknot, when I was 11 I found Darkthrone and Marduk and other black metal bands, I'm 28 now and I have over 600 records all of them are black metal and death metal (apart from the David Bowie ones. Everyone loves David Bowie haha) I still get told by my family that it's a phase and I'll grow out of it haha
I have to say so far nothing has made me give up metal, so 34 years in, I don't expect anything to change. I'm still discovering new bands and buying merchandise and wearing metal clothes.
I'm 60 now. You are not likely to grow out of it, but the disappearance of certain aspects of what people see as the trappings of heavy metal culture may indicate to others that "you have grown out of it." Someone in their teens and 20's listen to it, and in addition their dress, hair, discussions of concerts and band "soap operas," and the such indicate an imersion in a whole metal life seen by outsiders. As life progresses, one listens to it, but no longer go to concerts or do so as often because of other responsibilities. One listens to it, but wearing band t-shirts is inappropriate for work and meetings. One listens to it, but much of one's conversations no longer are centered around the subject because of other pressing subjects. One listens to it, but one's cars no longer have a dozen band bumper stickers on it because of the need to deal with others in a professional manner. One time a band was going to play at a nightclub and a person trying to get me to go after I said I couldn't stay out late told me to call in the next day and tell my boss that I was sick. I told them, I can't do that because I am the boss, I have to show up at work. Outsiders see relatively young people with the trappings of metal and older people without the trappings. Therefore, people must grow out of it. This is a statistical analysis error.
I wanted to type the same thing. I love metal and will continue to listen to extreme music but I rarely wear band shirts any more, have short hair etc. I love the look on someone's face I see a cool shirt and strike up a convo looking like a ''normie".
I started listening to metal during the mid 80’s when thrash metal was the big thing. I was 16 years old and now I’m almost 47 and still listening to metal and going to metal festivals and metal concerts. My favourite genres haven’t changed much over the years. Still lovin’ late 80’ style old school thrash/old school death/crossover/doom metal but over the years I also like stoner/sludge/post metal. Only during the 90’s my interest in metal was very low because almost all my favourite bands put out bad or mediocre albums (many changing their style).
Kinda same here, I was into celldweller and blue stahli as a young teen (don't even know what genre they are). Now into black metal. And more recently have opened my mind into some other genres like folk, doom, power..
Kyokopathic KO KO if you want some good black metal, check out Ruins of Beverast, Cultes Des Ghoules, Horn, and Demifiend if you haven't heard any of these. I'm a black metal freak.
I used to be super purist because I fell for the whole 'if it's not br00tal it's trash' stuff. In a way, it made me have a more 'respectable' music taste for people my age, but I also missed out on other genres. To any newcomers, don't let people tell you what to listen to. Go ahead and listen to everything from Jerry Lee Lewis to Desecrator 👌
I have definitely expanded my taste in music over the years but i still love metal. Metal is what gets my blood pumping and makes me happy. I've been listening to metal/ rock for maybe twenty five years and still love it. Nothing beats finding a new band that just blows you away and changes your view of what metal is or could be.
maybe the difference is that when you are older you are no longer part of a scene, or you dont dress like a metalhead anymore for obvious reasons, but the music is still in your heart. I love all types of music, I can enjoy a frank sinatra song as much as a celtic frost album. In the end, its all about the music you d like to hear at the moment. Im 37.
Great video dude. I'm 53 and I've only been listening to contemporary heavy metal for two years. I grew up during the 'hair metal' era of the 80s. I wasn't interested in any of those bands because I found them cheesy, shallow, superficial and overly commercial. In short, they weren't alternative enough. Skip forward to the last couple of years when, due to the influence of a couple of internet friends, I suddenly discovered a whole world of metal that I had no idea existed - Melo Death, Symphonic, Power Metal, Thrash, Folk Metal etc. No Cheese, still plenty of hair and suddenly I realised. "Wow, these are serious, talented artists." So I grew into metal and I'm enjoying it more and more.
I’m a bit like you. When I was 13 in the 1970’s I worshipped and incidentally had a crush on Alice Cooper. He was the most extreme artist I had access to in the small city I lived in. My taste in music shortly turned to heavy metal, punk and some hard rock after that. My love of heavy metal has evolved over the years, but it has never left me.
Became a metalhead at the age of 17. I’m now 28 and still love this music to death. Over the years I have developed a liking for a good number of different types of music but nothing can ever replace metal.
Antonio TF I feel the same way. I've liked metal since I was a kid but have really had my preferences grow throughout the years. Along with metal, I really like hip hop, jazz, jazz-fusion, and some of the nu-soul groups that have been coming out. Hell, I even appreciate certain areas of pop now. If the music is well written, I'll listen to it, regardless of genre.
I could never outgrow metal/rock music especially when it's the only thing keeping my chronic depression at a stand-still and I sure as hell could never outgrow or get tired of Manson
Personally, I don't ever see myself growing out of it. I grew up on rock, and the taste for it just grows. It kind of becomes a part of you. A part of you that evolves as you age, not fades away.
Well, I am 40 years old, I am here, and I have been listening to Heavy Metal music for the past 27 years. Indeed, priorities and life has changed a lot through these decades, as well as my taste. There were times when I had drifted away from Metal, focusing more on other genres of music, but never outright giving it up. I still explore genres that have nothing to do with Metal, but I don't see myself giving it up any time soon. This music is vital to my existence.
I have been listening to Metal for 8 years. I've grown out of looking like one (metal shirts everyday and long hair) but I am in no way near growing out of the music. I still discover new bands and new genres every week, and just started writing songs on guitar and planning to start a Death Metal band.
I grew into heavy metal (I wasn't allowed to listen to it as a kid, even though I yearned for an Iron Maiden album) My tastes have refined, evolved and changed over time to include a lot of different types of metal, and although metal owns my heart and it's my go to genre, I do have a pretty eclectic taste in music, and I like all kinds of music. I don't listen to music because it's cool and it's not about about the culture and lifestyle for me - it's just about the sound.
I'm old now (50) and I grew up with my Dad in the 60s and 70s rocking his stereo loud! I was fortunate. I love metal and always will. I will be the 80 year old at the show!
I remember listening to Slipknot and Marilyn Manson thinking it was the most dark and brutal stuff. I'm 23 and I don't really listen to those bands anymore and now I listen to black metal more. As I grew older I started listening to other sub genres of metal like power metal, symphonic metal, Doom metal, black metal, and death metal. So it is true you can actually grow out of some bands due to your mentality changing
Im 15, ive been listening to metal since i was 12 and i dont ever see myself growing out of it because i love it and connect with it. Also when i get kids i cant wait to share my music with them and teach them how to play guitar and take them to concerts and what not
When I first got into metal and punk as a teen I was told I'd grow out of it. So were my friends and fellow late 90s / early 00s school teens. Some of them did later but many of those seemed at the time to only be listening to heavy music because others were or to just seem edgy. Those of us who genuinely loved these sorts of music still listen to it, even if exact tastes have altered. e.g when I was a high school teen my favourite was pop punk as so many of the songs were about teenage shit, about school/college, about skating and girlfriends, etc about the sort of life I had at the time. These days I prefer bands that sing about more adult topics like politics, drug addiction, existentialism, etc because I am now a full grown adult and have been for some time now. I generally prefer darker, heavier bands these days though I always listened to the heaviest of the heavy (especially in the winter) and I still listen to the poppy stuff (especially in the summer.) My point is that *I didn't "grow out of it", I just grew.*
I've been listening to metal for a long time. Ever since I was like 6 I used to listen to Pantera and black sabbath. And I still listen to metal, I don't think I'll ever grow out of it
I get in metal when I was 8 and I'm 13 now and I don't believe I'll ever get out of it.. like, one of my teachers once asked me why I listen to Satan's music and I said 'coz Satan told me to (she wasn't really happy).. and most people don't like me coz they think all metal bands are about satan n this shit.. And it also sucks when someone says that I can't listen to metal music because I'm a girl... Anyway, great video, as always
Being the age I am now and having listened to metal since I was really young I don't think I'll be growing out of metal, I did have a bit of a pop phase when I was younger, and even gave classical music a chance, and yeah there's a few songs that stayed, but I'm mostly into rock and metal and I don't think it'll really change that much, especially with the new music genre trends and everything
I don't see myself growing out of metal anytime. Within the past year and a half-ish, I've been listening to metal, and I've never been more involved in music previously. Like you, I assume my taste in metal will change, but I don't think I'll ever fully "grow out of it".
My father had a death metal band before I was born, I grew up playing and tinkering with the cds and lps he had. It always fascinated me those gore covers some he would not even let me see. And at the time I had no idea what that would mean for me one day. In my childhood I heard the classic rocks, in pre adolescence I began to listen to some heavier bands until I met Death, after that I was so in love and every time More fascinated in extreme metal, death and black are my favorite strands. After a while I met other musical genres, and with my boyfriend he introduced me to many amazing reggae bands that I really enjoyed. But it's that thing, there's no music that makes me as energized and passionate as metal makes me. The patches of my jacket were all painted and handmade by me, because there are no stores that sell this in my city. I've been listening to metal for years and in all those years I've never had a friend or acquaintance who knew or liked them Bands that I, it always made me feel alone with all this feeling for the music that I always had, but this video made me feel that all this love for music sometimes connects us somehow. Sorry for the English, I'm Brazilian and not So good in English, sometimes I have to use the translator.
I've actually never had anyone say this to me. can I consider myself lucky? EDIT: recently i've had a bit of a newfound drive to search for and listen to new awesome bands, albums etc. I don't see myself ever growing out of it, I feel physically uncomfortable listening to most pop music. That's why I never touch a radio and bring my cds everywhere
I’ve been listening to metal since I was about 14 or so. I’m 32 now and more into metal than ever, but I heard “You’ll grow out of it” for literally the first time the other day at work, some customer said it to me. I told her I’d been into this shit for literally half my life, with the subtext being “Fuck you.” My girlfriend does ask me if it’s not “time to grow up”, but she likes Harry Potter, so...
I've been a metal head for five years, and I don't see myself quitting metal anytime soon. Once you get down to the nitty gritty of metal, and once you put so much appreciation for it, and realize how much it's impacted you as a person, it becomes a part of you for the rest of your life.
I don't think I will ever grow out of metal. But I grew out of my "metal only, true metalhead, in your face"-type of person phase. It's kinda silly to think about it, I was trying to think in a very one dimensional way, and felt like I needed to hide the fact I liked other things. Now I really don't care and I listen to whatever I want. I grew to like drone music, ambient, progressive, orchestral music, folk music, medieval music and a bunch of stuff I didn't even know about. In a way, most of it was because of metal, which just proves how metal is very varied and vast and can expand your tastes a lot. This also helped me grow even more into metal too.
I have been into metal since I was 11 years old! When I was younger my parents tried so hard to get rid of my taste in metal! They ripped my band shirts ( At that time )....they thought I was a devil worshiper.....
I'm 64, and metal has been a way of life for me. Bands like Sabbath have been gateway bands for me leading up to me being heavily into stuff like Black Metal, stoner, doom etc. And I don't foresee changing anytime in the near future. As a metal guitarist, I feel I've had a closer connection to it than your average listener would have I think. If metal has as much meaning to you as it has to me, then I don't think you will ever have to worry about growing out of it. I just can't wrap my brain around a world without extreme music. Love your channel bro. Yours in metal Paul.🤘🤘🤘🤘
I'm a 17 years old metalchick and I don't think you can grow out of metal easily. But I think it can happen on a very unusual occasion or something. On the other hand the more you get into something the harder it is to get out of it. I've already invested a lot of money in cds, gigs and merch, I started learning playing the guitar and singing thanks to metal, I made some friends very similar music taste... I got so deep in metal topics that for now it seems impossible for to "go out of my metal phase". Even though I'm the only metalhead in my family as well as one of two metalheads in my class, I won't change my musical preferences. Also I think metal helps you protect your originality, your special self, rather than blend you into a plastic mass of people with no opinions...
I'm 14 now and i've been listening to metal since i was about 7, I started out with korn and disturbed and some bands like that, and now i listen to mostly trash and death metal with some other genres of metal too and I honestly think that I'll never grow out of it, because I'm always finding new bands and most of my friends are metalheads
Marilyn Manson is pop music don't be confused by his imagery and sound. He's a major label, MTV, TRL guy. Manson, Korn, Mudvayne, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, any 90's nu-metal is simply "heavy" pop music.
I am 50 years old and have been listening to Hard Rock and Heavy metal since I was a child. I will never stop listening to Hard Rock and Heavy Metal ever!!!
I will be 52 this November I have been an Iron Maiden fan since the early 80's. The only thing that would make me grow out of some metal is if the band all of a sudden sucked. BTW best song on Gutter Ballet is "Hounds" those leads are insane! What's even more funny; the older I've grown the more extreme my tastes have become. I just recently discovered bands like Advent Sorrow, Dark Fortress, Carach Angren, I re-discovered Enslaved among others.
I totally get that... I'm 53, and though my tastes run all over the place, I've actually latched onto some black metal like Satyricon and Carpathian Forest. Not a die-hard fan, but when I'm in the mood, I can jump into that no problem.
I'm only 13 years old and I feel that my music taste has change very much, when I started in metal (11 years old) I started listening metalcore, but now I don't like it, now I listen thrash and Death metal bands, such as slayer, metallica, megadeth, death angel, testament, Evile, cannibal corpse, obituary, arch enemy and children of bodom, I'm starting to listen bIack metal with the most known bands, such as mayhem, burzum, dark funeral and marduk... I love your puppies poster😍, good ood video dude!!!
Dude I've been listening to metal since I was 11, and I'm 46 and still listening to metal. If there's anything that's changed for me is that I don't feel as angry as I used to in my teens, 20's, and 30's. And that has allowed me to open up to other forms of metal/hard rock that I wouldn't have given the time of day 10 years ago. I stopped listening to Maiden, Priest, Ozzy, Metallica, Megadeth etc. around 1990, for the reason that it wasn't as angry as I was feeling so I wanted heavier and angrier. Now that I'm older, and more mellow I can love Maiden, Priest, Ozzy, Dio again. Even stuff that I didn't get into when I was younger like Rainbow, and 70's Scorpions. I started listening to Metallica again after 20 years, and being older has made me understand why they've done some of the things they've done. I can actually listen to the Black album and Load now, where I couldn't before. I feel like I've fallen back in love with metal for the right reasons like when I was 11, before all my metal had to be pissed off and angry. Don't get me wrong I still like the heavy stuff. I still put on Marduk, Napalm Death, Unleashed, Obituary. etc. because I love that stuff and I'm always going to have a certain level of aggression in me.
You hit the nail on the head. I love heavy metal and I'm not sure I'll enjoy it as much as I do now when I'm middle aged, but my tastes have always been about hearing heavy riffs, coarse vocals, and freedom of expression, which these specific traits aren't available in most other types of music genres.
Metal music has been a huge part of my life. Growing up as a kid listening to the scorpions to being a teen listening to pantera and cannibal corpse heavier stuff and now almost 28 and I'm listening to Myrkur and melodic metal. Through out time my tastes in metal have changed along with life. I don't think I could ever just stop listening to it when music brings good memories of good times. Listening to that one old significant song that got you through a tough time in the past is just so good.
'You Grow Out Of It!' I'd like to tell the people that told me that 20 years ago, F U, because I started to listen to Heavy Metal at 17, and am now 52 and the only change that's happened is that I've broadened my tastes in Metal. Right down to Black Metal. However nothing METAL that I liked in the past, I've never stopped liking it.
bug, that never was said of me.... My parents were a ilttle older when I was born...so when I discovered metal...they said nothing about it& did nothing to change what I loved
Yo, man. Just found your channel and gotta say it's so fucking cool to have an open minded metalhead on RU-vid and I really enjoy your videos. Keep it up! \m/
i was late into metal i was die hard into slipknot and Manson and i'm turning 20 in 2 months and slipknot and Manson i still listen to them heaps but there not my tops anymore its now nightwish and alestorm
Caleb Boyd So you're becoming a fan of fantasy/symphinic metal. I like that. xD Check out Hammerfall, Epica, Dragonforce, Unleash the Archers, Amon Amarth.
I'm 42 and I just progress with metal. I've progressed from the Slayer/Metallica days when I was young. My black metal days are still with me I still love it. I'm more into death metal/death core anymore but I love metal for what it is no matter the genre or sub genre. Current favorites are Analepsy, Rings of Saturn, Infant anhillator, Vulvodynia...music along those lines.
Metal can cover topics like politics, mythology, literature, history (including war history), politics, mental health, love, lust, relationships and even science. I don't think many people are going to consider any of these particularly "juvenile". There's also different subgenres that could appeal to a variety of people of all ages. Think of symphonic, folk, gothic and doom (doom metal can have a Black Sabbath bluesy sound). I'm an almost 26 year old woman and I've listened to metal and rock since I was 11-12 years old. Things never changed nor do I think it's necessary for them to change. I'm also an artsy person and I love to feel the energy and emotions that metal gives me and yes, I do get moved by what I listen too (and no, I don't feel a need to destroy things or kill myself or what have you). Music also gives me inspiration for my art and gets me revved up to do a workout, so... those are bonuses.
you and Kylie, too? me, too. I mean, I've always had a soft spot for what I considered good pop music, which I like to believe WAS the better pop music. And Kylie, though I'd never listened to or liked her music before, suddenly became a fixture in my music listening. Like you... got all her albums, though they're separated from my rock and metal. Can't explain it, really... just classy, fun music... not cringe-worthy junk like so much else on the radio... in the 90's through to now. Still love my metal, but when I want something else....
yes, i know what you mean about a bit of melancholy, especially on her Abbey Road Sessions album, where she re-interpreted her dance-pop songs as mostly low-key, intimate, and atmospheric with a bit of jazz and other genre styles in there. i wonder if she could pull off metal? hehe
I LOVE YOUR SHIRT! And your channel and videos I don't think I could ever grow out of heavy metal. I've been a fan since I can remember I've grown up listening to it(I'm only 15) The first metal band I remember hearing (I don't know if I really consider it metal since I listen to much heavier stuff) was system of a down I still love them now but I'm very much into Amon amarth and older stuff like Black Sabbath. Even when I'm like 90 I'll still be head banging and listening to metal (I'm pretty sure😂)
I've been listening to metal for a year and a half now, I grew attached to it. I don't think I'll be leaving anytime soon, hopefully stay a fan for a long time.
My music tastes have definitely changed a LOT between when I was a kid and now as a young adult. Within the past couple years though I've mainly just been expanding my music tastes rather than completely changing them, if that makes sense? Like, I enjoy a lot of stuff now that I either wasn't aware of or didn't love at age 17, but I also still enjoy most of the stuff that I liked at 17. I've come to enjoy a lot of different music genres which is pretty awesome :) there's just so many incredible artists in the world
I'm 18yrs old and I've been listening to rock and heavy metal for as long as I can remember, because it's the music my parents instilled within me, basically since I was born. In fact, I still conserve lots of Iron Maiden, Uriah Heep, Asia, AC/DC tapes my dad gave me when I was a little kid, I still listen to them and hold appreciation for them. Some 5 years ago I got introduced to Folk Metal, through my cousin who moved back to Colombia from Sweden after a 3 year college exchange; and that's what I've been listening to ever since. Specially lots of Svartsot, Skálmöld, Manegarm, Vintersorg, Otyg, Metsatöll... I've even discovered some other bands in the subgenre by myself, and eventually got into atmospheric black metal kind of. The funny part is that, through folk metal I ended up growing out of Metal a little bit, because I started listening to lots of folk music (Faun, Kalenda Maya, Garmarna, Wardruna), AAAAND through that somehow, I got into Baroque, Renaissance and Medieval music. (Specially flemish and mediterranean). In brief, I still listen to metal, consider it an inherent part of my self, but simply don't listen to it as much as I did before.
