wanna make it a little easier on the gimbal? get the tilta V-mount baseplate for the rs2. does all the same things, but the battery fits under the quick release/adjustment plate. the tilta also gives you the option to have 2 d-tap and 2 lemo power outs.
Great video! I love finding uses for stuff that I have lying around. I took an old "tactical" H-harness and "battle belt", and combined them to make my gaffer/hiking harness. Then I braided together some paracord to make short little tethers to lock onto the shoulder rings on the h-harness, attached some anchors, and voila! No more weight on the back of my neck. It looks goofy, but with one pouch on the belt filled with all the random tools I might need, one or two lenses attached to rig, and even a water bladder carrier on the back that if I end up not carrying water that day I can use to carry a folded up tripod, I can handle looking a bit goofy.
@@chrisbrockhurst Yo, could you check the message/account just below your message (I got one almost like this). Is this an account you just happened to make on April 1st.. or is this just an imposter?.. Also, 💖💖
As someone who is wanting to invest in this type of equipment in the near future after owning a canon 5d Mark III for the the last 7 years. I wanted to ask a question about the rig you've set up, the zooming looks awesome. With the autofocus the fx3 has and the zooming with the motor, does it still keep the subject in focus whilst zooming? Regards! Great video! Subscribed!
⚠️HELLO I need your help. I own a Ninja V and a Sony A7IV. I mostly record in ProRes LT but I’m always stuck at UHD 25fps. You somehow managed to set it up to HD 23.98fps. How do you change resolution and frame rate?⚠️
Great tip. I used this as inspiration and made my own version. I have been testing it for two days on a trip and it works much better than expected. Thanks.
Very similar rig to mine - DJI RS2, Sony A7Siii etc, except I've balanced the new Tamron 35-150 f2-2.8 on it, with the focus motor also controlling the zoom. Chris is right, the trick is to balance the lens half-way, but it's a shame there isn't a counterbalance system for lenses with external zoom. I'm looking at a belt-mounted (ie trouser belt) V-mount battery rather than add more weight to the gimbal and raising the camera's centre of gravity.
im like you with this setup. but I also bought this off amazon on the cheap, really helps out and the ronin tripod legs fit right in.. its called "Kamerar MogoCrane Belt Kit,"
Looking to copy this build but add my Ninja. Any good ideas on placement, Chris? I find the FX3 screen is so dim, a monitor is almost a necessity for me.
I'm the type of shooter that I'd rather be lightweight and change out batteries than add a heavy battery to my setup. But that camera harness hooked to the gimbal is absolutely genius and I can't believe I never thought of that. I have a BlackRapid dual harness with AndyCine Quick Release plates on them, with the plates mounted underneath my SmallRig dual handles for the RS2, I'm excited to try this out this weekend! I can already feel the back relief 🤣
This setup is going to be heavy. The harness will help when you are not shooting but while shooting all the weight is still in your hands and this will tire you very quickly, unless you are a body builder.
Smallrig makes several 2 handed grips for gimbals, seems like those would be better suited than 2 top handles? and cheaper... Either way, anything to take some stress off of lugging these around is worth the $$
That was clever and to the point. Who cares about the looks ? Only results matter, and they alleviate every other detail around. I've used the strap-trick (thank you Peak Design, as well !) for over 6 months, and would not do without now. The harness ? Why not, but it may be too restricting at times, especially when you have to twist and bend, and/or leave the gimbal kit aside for a while. Thank you for the ideas and the confirmations, all very useful !
Very interesting setup, thanks for sharing. Do you ever use an external monitor with this setup? What would be your setup for some handheld shots in between gimbal work? Do you switch handles for that?
Hi, thank you so much for the video. Can you write a name of the piece that you attached to the battery? It allows to switch between a tripod and the ronin, correct?
Will the handle get in the way when the gimbal turn around? I sometime accidentally trigger it twice and the gimbal turning around so not sure if they turn and hit the handle will it break 🤔
I do a lot of local travel videos/hiking etc(Boston Mass location) w my dji rsc2 and after 2 hours I am spent(I had bicep surgery in March so that dont help, seeing the straps makes sense for me,I ll have to give that a try..I was this close to buying a action camera but I hate the image from them although it weighs nothing..I rather have better picture quality and use my gimbal set up..
I was watching you using the neck strap and my neck started to hurt. I asked myself, Why isn't he using the double strap? And then, some seconds later, you did. So much better. Takes all the strain from your neck and makes it much more comfortable. I do not own a gimbal, yet. But I have to ask. Does it works perfectly with that much weight? I mean, the battery should be as heavy as the camerasetup itself? And, when zooming, doesn't it shifts center of gravity affecting the balance?
im using it with a fully rigged up BM6k pro and its HEAVY and it keeps up. motors dont seem to struggle. my arms give out before the motors.. time for that easy rig
I want to Use The harness and im a wedding videographer. I have The RONIN DJI RS3 Pro and a Heavy camera setup. Can you explain, how i clamp The harness to my Gimbal?
Great video Chris!!!!!! I've been thinking for months actually to message you and ask you to do this video cause i had a similar idea and didnt know if it would work. My question is, im planning on buying a gimbal to use with my a7iii + 24-70 2.8 sigma. Whats the cheapest dji gimbal that will support that? Not going to use the dummy battery but i'll be using the focus motor to zoom in and out and i know this thing will become unstable if the motors are not strong enough. If anyone else has any experiance with similar setup let me know! Thanks!
Awesome. Yeah dunno how people even use bigger gimbals now without a strap haha once you start wearing it you can’t go without it. Great video. Looks like you got a Mac Studio too if my eyes don’t deceive me… sweet as.
the problem with this is that your neck now hurts from carrying this load. The way I solved this was to use the fishing rod holder mounted on a hip belt. Fishing rod holder is used by fisherman holding a fishing rod all day. Once you let go of the gimbal, it's held by the neck strap but supported mostly by the fishing rod holder.
Nice one, I have been using my follow focus for zooming for the last 6 months and LOVE IT. My battery does NOT last nearly all day at all. actually wish I could some how turn off that when connectedto the Ronins RSC2 but have not figured out how. Mine last about half a shoot day and screwed me over last month on a shoot on location. I have the FX 3 and cage and got the RSC2 because the R2 is over kill for that set up. PS> I meant my Ronin charges the FX3 and loses power during the day. Anybody know how to disable the RONIN CHARGING MY FX3 ? I prefer Artlist bc you can use the songs for as long as you want. Epidemic only while you are a Member. HUGE difference!
I believe epidemic and artlist have the same model - you get to keep the music you’ve used on existing/uploaded videos etc, even after you cancel, but you can’t use the music on new projects. Pretty sure artlist is the same here, no? Otherwise what’s to stop people downloading all their music and cancelling after a month?
@@nashwins Apparently epidemic is only why you have a paid subscription. At least that is what I have seen on other videos. Artlist you get a license for life whether you decide to not continue your account or not.
@@ekphotography i think they’re the same. I have epidemic sounds and have cancelled before and never got penalised for past videos that had epidemic songs, and that’s because you keep the rights to any music downloaded while you had the licence. If you cancelled and then tried to use epidemic music or SFX on a new video, without a licence, then you’d get claimed. Hope that makes sense - essentially they’re the same.
@@nashwins Makes sense and that does NOT happen on Artlist. You can download many songs and use them in future projects even if your subscription is over, apparently. I have a paid subscription, but a couple of times during a period where I was not subscribed I used songs I had downloaded and no problems.
@@ekphotography I did not know that; that’s really cool! I think I’ll join artlist for my second channel and try that out and keep epidemic sounds for my ctzngirl channel. Thanks for the tip!
"Are you happy to see me or is that just a camera with a strap on?" I have a feeling the "look ma no hands" thing is going to be popular. Though insta360 already did have that accessory for smaller cameras. Also, sorry, I couldn't resist.
Awesome video Chris! I have the RSC 2 model here at home so it looks like most of that will work with my junior model. I do have one question though re balancing.. you had your pack very nicely balanced there.. I can't even get my Sony A6400 in the UURig (smallrig) full cage with a Sigma 56mm balanced with the stock plates.. am i missing something ? I can get the A6400 balanced fine without the cage though
@@ekphotography i have finally managed to get it balanced.. what a nightmare. there was nothing on youtube to help me when i searched .. but it looks like a) i had the wrong height plate on at the time.. and b) i was on the wrong mount hole on the cage.. so i had to fiddle about with that... finally managed to get it balanced but it looks like i'm going to need the smallrig extended arca-type quick release plate for the RSC 2.. with its wider base as the stock plate keeps loosening on me..!
Hey man, this setup looks awesome. Smallrig isn’t selling the handles anymore, and I can’t find them anywhere (not even used). Do you know of an equivalent handle that would work the same?
