You'll Never Buy Roundup Again! 

I’m in Zone 8A and have used this method for weed killing for many years. I purchase white vinegar at Sam’s then mix Epsom salts and Dawn then put it in a 2 gallon pressurized pump sprayer. Make sure to spray on a hot, sunny day since this ensures the weeds wilt quickly.Also,dissolve the Epsom salts in hot water before mixing with vinegar and Dawn so the mixture doesn’t clog the sprayer.

I used a 30% strength vinegar and added 1 cup of lemon juice. It worked great! Weeds began dying out within one hour. Just one word of warning…as I was mixing the solution, I accidentally spilled a little onto my leather garden gloves. Later that day I noticed my fingers were stained with the colors from the gloves. Two days later I had skin peeling on all fingers affected by the vinegar. Next time I do this I will be sure to wear rubber gloves!

I went all natural and organic five years ago and got my bees and butterflies back ( DO NOT USE ROUND-UP) . In a spray bottle I use household vinegar, 1/2 cup Epson salt , 2 tablespoons Down dish soap, it works but it does not kill the roots on some of the weeds and must keep on applying when they come back later. GO ORGANIC !!

I use a paint brush to paint ordinary cheap brown vinegar on a particular hard to kill flat weed in my lawn. Dead within the hour on hot day. Not only dead but disappears. Neighbours think I’m a bit strange painting my lawn but it works! This method means I just isolate that weed.

I use a combination of 1 cup white vinegar, 2 Tbls. blue Dawn detergent, 1 Tbls. baking soda and t tsp. salt in a gallon jug, fill with water. Works as good as roundup and I apply it several times over the summer months. I have brick patios and walkway. I save old Windex spray bottles and use those.

Thank you for finding this weed killer. Europe banned Round up years ago! Why the US is still selling it, baffles me! I can’t wait to try this!😊

I have tried both the high strength and regular vinegar. The high strength vinegar works, but I recently tried 1/2 c salt, 2 tsp dish soap and 1 gallon regular household vinegar (MUCH cheaper) and it was as effective. I have the Trifecta of poison plants in my gardens--ivy, oak and sumac and the salt/dishsoap/vinegar solution killed it all. I sprayed the leaves, and when I safely could, pulled the vines, cut them, then doused with the solution. Very happy about that! Same zone as Linda!!

Linda, this vinegar works! I have been using it at half strength for years on our extensive gravel pathways. Spray it on a sunny day at 50% strength-no salt or surfactant needed-and it works like a charm. I just put it in a 2-gallon sprayer. The only risk is that your paths smell like a cheap salad dressing for a couple of days (but no carcinogen risk)!

This could be a game changer! We don’t use any chemicals in our garden so we are constantly pulling weeds. My husband is completely against poison weed killers! So excited to try this. Thank you.

For weeds in the cracks in the driveway, I pour table salt in the cracks and that works well. I would mix the vinegar in a gallon plastic milk container instead of figuring the liter vs gallon math problem. I am sure the remaining unused solution would keep for a few months if you didn't use all of it on that day. Sometimes, it isn't the odor that is a BIG problem, it is the fumes that get in the lungs, especially folks with respiratory problems that can be serious. Love watching your videos.

I have used regular household cleaning vinegar mixed with blue Dawn dish soap and Epsom salts. I used this mixture on the weeds that grow in the cracks of the driveway and it worked like a charm on a hot, sunny day. Within 15 - 30 minutes, every weed was dead. Have not tried the mixture anywhere near the grass or flower beds.

My husband & I have used just plain 1gallon white vinegar that you get in the grocery store for many years ! We mainly use it on brick crevices , it’s easy and effective , we use it full strength .

I have used this and it worked well in the sun, but not so well in the shade. I also decided not to add salt. I believe the build up of salt in the soil can inhibit it over time from growing anything, so not too plant friendly. I know not many homeowners are going to invest in a backpack sprayer, but as a professional with large(or small) areas to spray, a backpack sprayer with a long wand which saves your back by preventing you from having to bend over and just a few easy pumps with your left hand is the easiest, most efficient way to spray. In any event, the weeds gotta go!😊

Yay!!!! I tried this homemade weed killer this morning and am absolutely overjoyed that it worked so well! I used regular strength vinegar, a few drops of dawn and epsom salt. The spurge was dead within an hour.

I use I gallon of white vinegar, 2 cups of regular table salt and 8 drops of dawn dish soap. Mix this in my sprayer and it kills weeds quickly. I think it’s better than round up and it’s non toxic and a safe way to get rid of weeds. Found this on Pinterest

I use this method and it does well on most common weeds in sunny areas. To apply to weeds that are amongst plants, I cut a slit in a large piece of heavy cardboard and then pull the weed thru the split to spray it, being careful overspray doesn’t hit my good plants. I keep cleaning vinegar purchased in gallon+ jugs around for many uses so that is what I use. I do full strength for weeds. It does not work on nutsedge or trumpet vine for me. Bermuda is questionable. It may be because my trumpet vine doesn’t get much sun. I need to get one of those battery powered sprayers!

I used the white vinegar purchased in the grocery store. Pour directly from the bottle, kills weeds within 24 hours..🤔 Used the same vinegar for towels when rinsing, great fabric softener.

Southeast Missouri region... I have had success with household grade vinegar table salt...heated to boiling... up to three applications & applied in hottest parts of day... killed an unwanted invasive wisteria and poison ivy...

I’ve used horticultural vinegar with dish soap for a couple of years. It does slow the weeds, but I’m super careful with it. I do a lot of hand weeding, but I use this to supplement in small areas. I don’t use salt since I don’t want that in the soil. I don’t think it permanently kills the roots, so it’s not one and done.

I’m going to try this on the out of control chameleon plant in my garden. It is very invasive and takes over so quickly.

We have a xeriscape area that is covered in river rock. The weeds are so hard to pull from the root because of the rocks. I am so excited to try this method, and will be able to get to the root of the weed with minimal effort. We have lavender and cabbage roses peppered amongst the rocked area, and I love the idea of protecting them with a piece of cardboard! Easy peasy lemon squeezey!

I use the same recipe but I add 25 to 30 drops of both Clove and Mint essential oils. Works great.

Just a reminder that this is still a powerful acid that could still cause harm to skin and eyes. Best practice is to wear long sleeves, gloves, and eye protection when using ANY herbicide, even those which don’t contain dangerous chemicals. If it’s powerful enough to burn leaves it can hurt your skin, eyes, nose, and mouth too. Also make sure you’re wearing gloves when mixing and that there’s plenty of air circulation in the mixing area because those fumes really can harm your throat and lungs when they’re undiluted. I think this seems like a pretty good alternative to glyphosate products for those stubborn weeds like you mentioned just be sure that you’re still taking all the proper precautions. :)

I used regular white vinegar, and mix it 2 to 1 with water. It works great!! Great video, I learned a lot! love, hugs,prayers.

I have used regular vinegar(mixed with Epsom salts ,Dawn dish detergent and water)before in a 1 gallon pump sprayer ... it does work temporarily... I will try the 45% vinegar next time ! I would recommend flushing the sprayer with water several times after using these because vinegar and probably salt can ruin the mechanisms in the sprayer.

I have never seen industrial strength vinegar. I make my own weed killer that works, just a bit slower than commercial products. I just fill my sprayer up to the fill line with vinegar. Then I add about a good 1/2 -3/4 cup of salt, and about 4 tbsp. of Dawn dish detergent; so much cheaper than ie. Roundup.

I use regular vinegar, salt, dawn and red alcohol used for muscle rub. Bottle of vinegar, 1 cup salt, 2 Tablespoons soap, bottle of alcohol. Only spray what you need sprayed. Overspray will kill other stuff.

It’s dichondra - a most beautiful ground over that most have no luck growing! People use it for lawns instead of grass - no mowing & lush :) lucky you:) Thanks for weed tip!

The round leaf plant that came from the neighbors yard at about 11:50 looks like dichondra, sometimes used in southern California as a ground cover. The other weed at about 15:20 looks like spurge.

I use simple houses Hold I use just house hold vinegar which I buy in Aldi for 60 cents.i buy a supply and just spray it directly on the weeks, you can see the results in 2 days. Fantastic

I live in Coeurd'alene, Idaho zone5/6 , thank you for the idea of using the cardboard to protect the plants, very brilliant, I always wanted to use weed killer, but afraid to harm the plants. The tulips started blooming 2 weeks ago and they are still in bloom. Delphinium does grow very well in Idaho, this spring I dug them up and decided them. We have Japanese maple trees in our garden, and pine trees , the pine trees grow winter, summer, fall, spring. I heard that you should transplant tulips after 5 years to a new location or they will get diseased.Thank you. Cindy Scarth

I have used vinegar with great success in my zone 8b garden. But, with the rain we get here in the Pacific Northwest, it does get rinsed off so it has to be done during dry spells. If I know it is going to rain then I do my other method-a torch hooked up to my bar-b-q tank. That works great too.

Ive been doing this the last few years and its amazing how in a few days it dried those weeds right up . Vinegar , dish soap and salt in a spray bottle . especially those weeds in the cracks of walk ways. hard to get out just spray that good and great results. Thanks for sharing ~

Yes, I have tried the regular vinegar, dish soap, and epsom salt combo and it does work, but you do have to reapply after a while. I want to try the industrial strength vinegar. I am in 7B Alabama

I clean only with, vinegar, vater, soft soap and bicarbonate. In different concoctions depending on what to clean. Old, old Swedish recepies. And for the drains too. There I use a bit of salt and boiling water etc. I can translate the recepie if you want but I am sure there are similar things in US that people sent you. 12% vinegar. Never used in the garden, need stronger vinegar then I think! Brilliant Linda ❤️🙏

In my driveway, I have used boiling vinegar on weeds and Bermuda grass in warmer weather. It does work for months, but I have had to redo it at a certain point. I have also used a flame thrower connected to a propane tank and again works for months, but eventually comes back. I bought the vinegar you recommend and spray bottle and will try this product.

Good advice, re not using ordinary table salts. Once that area of ground or soil is salted, it may be years before anything grows there again. This is fine for sidewalk & driveway cracks but never flower or garden beds.

I use white vinegar from Costco mixed with regular salt and Dawn dish detergent. Works well.

Vinegar is a staple in my household. It stops itching as well. Just Dab with a cotton cloth.

I use rock salt & lemon mixed in hot water until the salt completely dissolved & works well for me

I always use regular vinegar with a handful of table salt and a squirt of Dawn dish soap in a spray bottle. I apply this to the weeds on my driveway edge on a hot sunny day and by that evening the weeds have wilted and died. May have to do this 3-4 times a summer.

I’ve tried household vinegar, dawn dish soap & salt. Just be sure where you apply that, you don’t want anything growing in that area because nothing will grow in those areas again. Certain weeds take multiple applications & it will kill grass, too. I’ve been interested in the horticulture vinegar. We have dogs so I prefer the more organic gardening and lawn care. I believe the weed is prostrate spurge or something- my gravel garden is prone to it, 😢 but it is easier to rip out by they roots than dandelions 💢. I have used household vinegar for killing weeds and grass growing up in between my sidewalk pavers. It took a good number of tries but worked.

Like others, I’m not sure this kills down to the root. Therefore likely (possible) that the weeds will reappear. Since the leaves are killed it weakens the plant by eliminating the plant’s ability to manufacture food. Repeat applications may be necessary. But since this is relatively safe, easy, and cheap, it’s a great alternative to harsher methods. I’m going to try starting with the weaker solutions. Have a huge problem with thistle that I am anxious to try this out on. Thanks much for sharing. Love your methods.

I use 20% horticultural vinegar. I have a power sprayer and it works beautiful!

Regular Hydrogen peroxide 3% in the brown bottle not diluted works great too. Found this out by mistake! Just spray it on. So easy, no mixing. It does not take alot either.

I embrace my weeds. I won't put anything on them. I have a large colony of Anole lizards; butterflies (they actually used my porch one year for a hatchery because of the passion flower vine I let grow on it. (Host plant for larvae). There were butterflies hatching and taking flight for weeks that year. Amazing. I just sat on the porch and watched the show. The Anoles also gather on the porch. I also get a tone of honey bees because they absolutely love Mexican Heather. It is literally a honey bee magnet. I grow a lot of it because it grows really well here and they get really big -- almost 3 feet in diameter. The Honey Bees also love Sumac (the none poisonous type). The Sumac grows into 10 foot tall, multi trunk trees and the flower clusters are an average 8 -10 inches in diameter and conical in shape standing at least 6 inches in height. The flower clusters get so full of bees that you can hardly see the flowers. I let the Sumac spring up anywhere it wants, and pull it out if I do not want it there. I will not put anything in the garden that could possibly harm the wildlife. What I do is plant things that suppress the weeds. I find that it is hard for weeds to grow through thick growing ground covers, so I have a lot of different types. Weeds also do not like growing through thick plantings of Canna. So every year I just add more and more plants. I do not have to pull near the weeds I used to, because the gardens are very full now. I get very little weeds under the thick ferns that I have growing and especially the ornamental grass -- mainly Miscanthus and Pampas. These grass clusters get so dense nothing grows under them. I give the gardens a good going over during the early Spring as the plants start to come back. Sometimes I will give it another once over just before winter, before it gets too cold outside. Any thing that manages to grown within the dense plantings, I leave. If it managed to pop up through all that shade, then so be it -- those are the ones I embrace. I have a lot of trees (over 30 on an acre of land). Raking the leaves in the fall, crushing them and dispersing them as mulch seems to really give the plants a boost. Sycamore leaves make great mulch because they are so big; easy to rake and crush. I go this route because my garden is not just for me to look at. I have it, so that I can work it. It is therapeutic for me to be out in it, tending it. I am 61 and been gardening this way since my early 20's. Plan on keeping it up until I physically can not do it anymore. At that point I will probably go the chemical route, and if I do, it will be something natural like in this video. Thanks for the information. And the yard in this video is stunning!

Yes, Linda .... Ive been using regular old, cheap vinegar for years! Full strength, straight from the jug. For added strength to kill off things like dandylions, squirt in some dish soap and throw in a handful of salt! Waa laaa! Zone 6

I use urine instead of vinegar, some salt and a squirt of washing up liquid, works very well and is free.

I use household vinegar straight,no deluting. On a hot sunny day! Works excellent !

That leafy little weed that's taking over looks like the wild violets that are planted by the birds and then you will live with it. The stuff spreads through little tubers under the surface, which are impossible to get rid of. I live in KCMO, zone 6. They are EVERYWHERE. VERY excited to try the vinegar.

Hi Linda! Zone 9b here. I’ve been using only white vinegar with salt and soap for years. 1 gallon, 1tbs salt, 1 tsp soap. It works great. No harm to any plants. But I’m concerned it might discolor the artificial materials in your turf!

I used to use industrial strength vinegar but it is SO expensive. Now I use just plain vinegar and it works well. And I no longer use the salt and soap as they don't seem to be needed.

Doug Merritt I use 75% vinegar. I mix 1 quart vinegar- 1 1/2 gals. of water- 2 oz. orange oil- and liquid dish soap. Spray in about 2 seconds of dish soap. I mix it in a 2 gal hand sprayer.

I am in zone 5b SE WI and have used a similar recipe with household vinegar, epsom salts, and dish salt on my paver patio. If bugs are rampant I add some rosemary or peppermint essential oil.

I ordered a container of the vinegar from Amazon half way through the video. Thank you! I used to use the normal distill vinegar and it didn't kill anything. Going to try this 45% Vinegar and will hope for the best.

Used both65%, as well as dollar store cleaning vinegar. The combination of that with soap and water and orange oil works well.

I have used boiling water and you are right carrying big pots of boiling water out to the garden how long are driveway was rather cumbersome. And it did take several applications of it to kill the stubborn weeds. More recently I used first kitchen vinegar and finally the garden strength vinegar. It works pretty well on most common weeds. Nothing worked on mugwort, my arch enemy!

I've used the vinegar, salt , detergent mix many times. It's great for killing the tops of weeds, but if it is a weed with a strong root system, they will just grow back.

That plant you have growing between your bricks looks like Dichondra and is very invasive, there is a silver variety of it that looks great in a pot cascading down

White vinegar, epsom salt and dawn dish soap, in a pump up sprayer for larger areas ... works quickly, wait 24 hrs, then rake up the dead weeds and prepare the soil for planting.

So surprised to see those nasty little weeds coming up in your artificial turf. I didn’t think weeds could grow in it. I use household vinegar to kill Chinese Bittersweet. I put a little full strength in a plastic to go cup that has a hole in the lid. I cut the vine and insert it into the cup so it goes into the vinegar and secure the cup at the site so it doesn’t tip over and leak into my plants and let the vine drink it up. It does eventually kill the roots so I can pull it out. It didn’t harm the shrubs it was growing out of. I have some errant wisteria vines I’m going to try it on this year.

yep, used this method with undiluted household use vinegar with Epsom salt and Dawn for my brick patio and crevices on the driveway and sidewalks

Does this work for Morning Glory Vines? They've been a 30 year nightmare for me and my family, I finally had the yard gutted of them, now I have the unfortunate duty of micro managing them to prevent their unwelcomed return😥

Loss of taste and smell is a classic symptom of radiation poisoning. I lost mine way before covid was a thing. Still hardly have any taste and smell. Everyone reacts differently. Unfortunately most people are not aware that radiation poisoning has the same symptoms of what "they" are calling covid. I'm going to try this vinegar remedy for my weeds. Good video.

Vinegar does kill weeds, but also all soil life, other plants and insects. So just leave remedies like vinegar in the kitchen cabinet to prevent damage to the environment.

This is a great video, I’ve heard of this mixture as a weed killer but didn’t know how well it worked! Good old white vinegar wins again!

So much useful info here! For those weeding larger areas, and not driveways or paved areas, though possibly in pea gravel mulch, I like a scuffle type hoe. Some have a head shaped like a stirrup. The one I have used for decades has a thin, sharp diamond-shaped head. It slides just under the soil surface and cuts on the push or the pull. Very easy to work it around plants. Light years better than the old chopper type hoes that create more weed problems than they solve. Mine was sold by Seymour, and am not sure they still sell it, or if they exist, but others stock it. Recently I noticed Sneeboer tools has a stainless model, very nice but pricey.

We call the little flat weeds "spurge". Have used household vinegar, as well as cleaning vinegar plus Dawn for several seasons and feel better about using that vs. Roundup, etc.
