Same here brother. Adding yet another shotgun due to this channel. I don't need it but.... Well we all know how it is. I don't have the largest budget and here in the Great White North (Canada). The used market is almost as expensive as new. Wish I had access to the UK market without all the import tariffs 😢. Another great vid Johnny (scarface?) keep them coming.
My scope cut was a classic case of the steep uphill shot on an elk with a .338 Magnum. My hunting partner claimed I bled more than the elk did...worth it, though.
I got scoped by a Sako .300 Win Mag that I was sighting in for a friend. That left a pretty decent scar but I finished the job. Lesson learned, don't sight in a friend's rifle.
The problem with alot of thermal is the short eye relief This would be more of an upgrade for me with a 90-100mm eye relief and a circular view than any rangefinder add ons , videos stuff that you generally dont need , as if you are shooting a center fire anything from 50 yards to 200 yards is pretty much point and shoot
That reminded me of my mate back in the 80s when I had been bought my very first gun which was my webley tracker in 22 which I still own today and still in really good condition and still shoots Bob on. But my mate Fester wanted a go and I told him not to put his eye too close to the scope or he’ll get scoped airgun or not but he didn’t listen saying oh shut up it’s an air rifle not an elephant gun! I remember his exact words to this day and when he pulled the trigger there was a whole load of swearing as he passed the gun back to me and a whole load of claret running down his face. He had a perfect half circle above his eyebrow and a scar he still carries today.
I got pretty lucky with my first and hopefully last scope bite from my magnum muzzleloader. Had on eye protection and the scope hit my eyewear lens. The bridge of my nose got the slightest of cuts from the eyewear. It happens. Must be good luck Johnny!
digital and thermo scope producers: traditional optical scope 90-100mm eye relief is past-century thinking. Let's just all make 50mm, there is no downside to that - we are so smart
I was waiting for the caliber review and when I heard .243 I couldn’t help but laugh. Completely understand on the eye relief issue but in the states I can’t even imagine someone telling me that
Bloody Kiss from a Scope 😂😂 sry to say that Johnny but you are a Rifle Noob but a Shotgun Pro 😜 thanks goodnes you had a relativly normal Caliber with a Supressor and not something big without a Muzzledevice my Mauser 77 in 8x68s would have bitten you way more 😂
Traditional optics definitely remind you to put your eye in the right place, I guess that’s why these new things come with rubber eye cups (that I left off…)
The bank account regrets me going out that evening! Haven’t committed to that thermal yet, but perhaps that is what the gun from the last members film can become…
@tgsoutdoors the Pard DS35 has a 4" relief. Something UK shooters don't bother about as they don't shoot much bigger than 22-250 on foxes. When you start using 300 win mag you pay more attention to eye relief, battery orientation, electronic reliability.
Johnny, Jake and I are pissing ourselves, magnum eyebrow from a bloody 243 !! I have to say though, there is a lot to be said for the auto rifles over here, no recoil even when you're running 20 shots from the Scar 6.5 on hogs. We are going to have to take you out when you come to Florida again. Think we may have to give you some training though. Once again thanks for the bloody good laugh (No sympathy from me or him I'm afraid)
Thermals are considered too much of an unsporting advantage, hence are banned for deer, but I'm not aware of anything against digital scopes per se in Scotland. If I have missed it, which is definitely possible, can you advise the regulation banning visual spectrum digital scopes? Thermals are used often for tracking deer that have been shot in Scotland, but not mounted to the rifle.
Digital scopes are currently banned in Scotland for deer… but I’m told by a reliable source that’s likely to change along with the night licence policies
One would not be shooting deer with an air rifle in the UK, and if someone would be as unethical to do so, posting it here would get a visit from the law for breaking the Deer Acts. I could not imagine Johnny even contemplating doing that. In the UK for Roe & Fallow, the bullet must weigh AT LEAST 100 grains and have a MINIMUM muzzle velocity of 2,450 feet per second and a MINIMUM muzzle energy of 1,750 foot pounds, which is generally a 0.243 and up. In England, even Muntjac and CWD have a minimum of 1000 foot pounds by law. In Scotland, for Roe the minimum is 1000 foot pounds and though can be shot with a 0.220, is usually 0.243 and up (0.270 being common even for Roe). Fallow need > 1750 foot pounds.
