Ron, have you thought about switching out the trebles for inline hooks? maybe less damage for the fish and for you...

great point. I normally do when a brand of lure gets a more permanent spot in my tackle box. I have a post on how to do that ( kayakfishingaddict.com/2020/11/change-your-treble-hooks-to-inline-single-hooks/ ).

Hi Ron. Curious as to why you use bait-casting gear rather than spinning. Is there an advantage with it in the kayak or just personal preference? I find the saltwater lures too light for bait-casting although I much prefer it for bigger largemouth lures. Thanks

Hi Eric. Great question. I use baitcasters because I can be precise with each cast by controlling it with my thumb. It's also advantageous from a kayak because I can cast with one hand in case I'm busy steering, etc. with the other one. Baitcast reels handle most baits just fine....as long as the lure is within the weight specification of the rod you're using.

Great video, Ron! Have you ever tried any anchor up and fish style in the marsh? Like with some shrimp or cut bait in a spot with good current?

Sometimes I stake out using my stakeout pole….but I typically move until I find the fish.

I’ve still got my KastKing rods from years ago ( kayakfishingaddict.com/product/kastking-royale-select-fishing-rods/ - 7’0-M Power-Fast-1pc) and I’m using an Old18 Aerius rod (7'0" Medium Casting Mod-Fast) for my third rod. Old18.com is closing them out right now.

@@KayakFishingAddict i thought I recognized that aerius rod. I always find myself grabbing my 6'-5" ML Mod Fast or my 7' suppresor L xtra fast. The Aerius has a short butt, great reel seat and I love the feel of it. Perfect kayak rod. Dont sleep on the hollow point series either. On clearance for 80 bucks, they are great.
