Yes, I would purchase the new 3rd Gen. WiFi 6 Router. 😎 Currently, I have three (3) Internet service providers, *Starlink Residential version 2 with mesh nodes, *Starlink RV/Roam with Mesh nodes, and my old and painfully slow Microwave signal from a neighboring town, using a *Netgear Nighthawk X8 with WiFi 6 and a Netgear WiFi booster. *Starlink has been a MAJOR game-changer for us living in a very rural foothill location. Recently, I have also noticed an increase in download and upload speeds with *Starlink, with a "speed-test" this morning, I recorded a download speed of 351Mbps and an Upload speed of 25Mbps, with an average latency between 19-30ms. We love our *Starlink 🥰

As usual Joe- I always appreciate your enthusiasm and research! This new router seems perfect for my situation. We are now splitting our time between our home on the coast and a more remote location in the mountains. Because of the remoteness, I’ve now got 5 outdoor WiFi cameras to keep track of things. As I added the last 2 cams I’ve noticed the video has gotten a bit laggy while checking in. This may be exactly what I need.

You're right, it definitely has DC power input. The test reports for the device (FCCID:2AWHPR232), section 3.7 shows a block diagram indicating a DC input. The only problem is that while it can supply power to Gen 1 Dishy, the Gen 2 Dishy still requires the Gen 2 router to supply power. So unless you have Gen 1 Dishy, probably best to wait to pair with Gen 3 dishy for DC-to-DC mobile usage.

Great, informative video! I just purchased a Mercedes Sprinter van customized for overlanding. I get into a lot of areas with no cell service on my trips. Starlink is the way to go for internet access in the wilderness areas I frequent. I am hoping they come out with a flat mount that doesn't require cutting the dish. Once they do, I'll be making that purchase for sure.

Gen 3 router will NOT/NOT work with 3rd party mesh networks. For me, at least, that's a non-starter. I've got a gen2 in bypass mode with x3 Deco x55 mesh nodes, one on each floor with ethernet backhaul that provide wifi 6 at great speeds into every corner of the house. I don't like products that try to tie you in to their ecosystem. I'm glad I've got a Gen2 and will stay with that.

At 14:50 in your video you mention making the new Gen 3 the primary Wi-Fi and "converting" the old Gen 2 into an extension on the MESH network. You said you might be making a video to show how to do that. That is exactly what I want to do. I want to purchase the new Gen 3 when released. Put it in place of my current Gen 2 and move the Get 2 to make it an extension on the MESH network. Please let me know how to best accomplish this. Thank you.

I'm glad to see the improvements, but I see no need to upgrade do to the WiFi change. With only 80Mbps down and 10Mbps up, faster WiFi from that device does nothing for me. Now a separate power supply, or at least a design with vents so it could operate at 85F or so without requiring a fan to keep it cool in the summer, would be nice.

@@jcristina Sorry to say, but I had to return it. The gen1 dishy cable connection will not securely fit into the gen3 router port. The gen3 router port is circular and the cable end is square. This prevents the cable end from going in far enough to make a secure connection. Guess the engineers did not test it good enough.

@AF1US

The reason they say TWO different DC connectors is that if you are using it as a stand-alone router/mesh device, you don't need as much DC power (I think it's 30 VDC) and if you are going to use it with a dish, you will need more DC power (around 79 VDC) to provide POE to the dish. They are making both available. It also states this ON the router itself. Also, in a previous video you stated that you don't think this kit is "worth" $599 -- I disagree. The new dish is more of a phased array antenna and can view more satellites at once. It also has the improved router and ethernet ports, etc. I think Starlink is doing everyone a service by keeping the pricing the same. Cheers - BL

Can't upgrade right now it is not available, Version 3 has not been release yet. However, when it does become available I would prefer the new router over Version 3 if only they kept the motorized Satellite. The main reason is because of the built in Ethernet ports. In my house my Stepmother has a Home office. She has a Business computer and A Printer she uses for business. Very important that she has the best Connection. So I bought a high speed Gaming wifi router with 8 Gigabit ethernet ports and 1 2.5 GB Ethernet port. That should be enough to deal with the problem until Starlink can provide a better option in the future. What I am actually waiting for is the new Larger satellites to be put into orbit which they have announced that they are going to start doing in 2024 since they just got approval from the FCC.

I upgraded and regret it. My gen 2 was flawless for 2 years and the gen 3 is hit or miss some days and the wifi signal is much shorter. Wish I didn't get rid of my gen 2. Also the gen 3 satellite seems super cheap and the fact that we need to face it where it needs to be is a downgrade from the gen 2 in my opinion. Don't DOWNGRADE from gen 2 to gen 3. Trust me it's a downgrade.

I have the Gen-1 round dish here in Canada. My home is on about 8 acres and I would like to extend my wifi signal at least so I can get a phone call outside and keep the call without losing connection. I don't have much of a cell signal so I count on my wifi calls. Its good if I'm just outside the house but I'd like to be about 100 feet or so away and still get a wifi signal. Right now I use a D-Link extender on one side of the property but I have to change my wifi settings on my phone and connect to the D-Link extender when I'm on that side of the property. So I believe you're saying, the new router will connect to a mesh system and give me overall better performance? Thanks of for all the video's and information.😊

What if money is not an issue (per se) i was lloking to add an orbi 6e with 3 access points. I have a 2000 sq ft house with a detached workshop 40 ft from house. I was thinking central main, 1 Ap at one end of house, another at the rear and one line of sight with no obstruction to the workshop having another ap there. I do have the orbi at another home and while pricey (1500 for 3 units) i have seen a dramatic increase in connectivity within the system. No more, "oh damn, someone turned on the microwave" etc. Wired near gigabit, wireless laptop at 650 etc. I know starlink is 150ish on a good day but improving local dataspeeds is my goal.

@@jcristina Yes, my router is basically handling everything but the "dish side" hardware control (just the Physical Layer 1 in the OSI stack?). My question is whether that dish side electronics which is exclusively in the Starlink routers is being improved with each generation? For example, is a Gen 3 router able to track and stay connected to the constellation better than a Gen 2 router if using the same dish?
@5thGenNativeTexan
@5thGenNativeTexan 10 месяцев назад
@@billcrisafulli6926 There's nothing in the new Gen3 router that would enhance your overall connectivity if you're in Bypass mode using your own wifi / router system. Then enhancement are purely for those who use the Starlink router in native mode and it's integrated wifi. Like you, I run bypass mode and I use a Netgear Orbi mesh wifi system. Getting a new Gen3 Starlink router would be useless for that configuration.

As you said, wifi7 routers are currently available but they are $700 plus without mesh. My home WiFi supports WiFi 6 and it is a fiber optic system with upload and downloads speeds the same. I’m sure they will soon update to 7. On my boat I have Starlink that has an Ethernet connection so I guess it is v2. I bypassed the Starlink router to a WiFi 5 mesh system. I now have 3 devices that support WiFi 6 - 2 new iPhones and a new iPad with M2 processor. No other Apple devices support WiFi 6 currently. New releases are expected in the Spring - some with an M3 processor which could support faster WiFi modes. All my other WiFi devices on the boat - Garmin electronics, cameras, data transmission devices, etc. do not support faster WiFi. For most Starlink customers, I see no reason to spend the money for an updated router !
