Frankie Beverly, the legendary musician known for his soulful tunes and captivating performances, was given a wonderful send-off from Houston. The city truly did him right, with a crowd of about 17,000 people coming out to show their appreciation.
Despite some critics focusing on Beverly's aging voice, the true essence of the man was what truly captivated the audience. His character and perseverance throughout the years shone through, especially as he was honored for his efforts in helping to free Nelson Mandela during his imprisonment in South Africa.
Beverly was presented with a Congressional Proclamation and a flag that had been flown over the United States Capitol, a true testament to his impact and influence. It was as if he was being recognized as a native Texan, even though he hailed from Philadelphia.
Special mention was made of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, who shared kind words and praises for Beverly during the event. Unfortunately, my phone had died by then, but her sentiments echoed the sentiments of the entire crowd.

God Bless Frankie Beverly. I have been to many Frankie Beverly concerts . We Love, Love, Love Frankie Beverly and Maze in the Wash DC area. The man and band have had an extraordinary career and its a damn shame that throat cancer ruined his singing voice, but Frankie Beverly’s songs have always been about the vibes. The audience singing is just fabulous. I hope Mr. Beverly enjoys his retirement. Frankie Beverly and Maze will live on forever as the most feel good music in R&B..

He has plans to retire and on his terms. He has 4 more shows accross the country and I suspect each one of his true fans in 2024 will be there as they were in Houston. On to Chicago Los Angeles and to Philadelphia his home town. I enjoy his show and I embrace in every stage of their lives.

As a true MFFB fan since their debut album, this is so bittersweet to watch. Sweet...seeing Frankie and the fans enjoying themselves. I've enjoyed 50+ concerts. Bitter... knowing that the fans and his management clearly see that Frankie is in cognitive decline. He completely forgot the start of the 2nd verse in "You". Unfortunately I'm experiencing the cognitive decline of a family member and our family would never subject our loved one to be on public display knowing their cognitive condition. His new management is just using him for $. Plain and simple. They alienated the former band members who are basically Frankie's bothers that have been with him for 20+ years. Frankie does not need any money. And he's not in a condition to effectively give the people a good and decent concert. And it's not his fault. His management team has completely ignored his cognitive decline and decided to simply take advantage of him by getting his fans to buy tickets. Absolute shameful on them.
