Hej allihopa (that's Swedish for 'Hi everybody'!)... Here's our long awaited cover of an incredible indie-pop song by The Wannadies: 'You & Me Song'.
There's voodoo in this composition. When it released in 1994 it felt like it could have been around forever - being instantly familiar right from the first listen - and yet, almost 30 years later it still feels as fresh and contemporary as it did at the time.
There's something timeless about it's simple sentiment and honest account of modern relationships that makes it as beautiful as it is awkward.
Opportunities to play the melodica don't come around too often, so when they do we absolutely jump at the chance to strap one to a mic stand and get our toot on. The line the melodica plays in the original is just one of a number of absolutely genius little melodies throughout the song, and it really is a shame we only have four hands.
This is track 4 from our latest album of acoustic covers 'If The Mood Carries' (link at the top of this description) and we wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who's bought one of our releases since we started putting stuff out in late 2019. You've no idea how much it has helped us though the last couple of years, and has allowed us to continue being musicians even in a time where being a musician wasn't really possible. You kept food on our table and wolves from our door.
Speaking of which, yesterday we bought a new van for work. Well, a second hand van, but an enormous upgrade from the previous rusty bucket of bolts that we'd been running into the ground since 2013. It was becoming embarrassing to turn up to gigs in it, and at 225,000 miles on the clock, we felt we were probably toying with fate to try and get another year out of it. She served us well, but it's now time for some sweaty mechanic to strip out her vital organs.
Anyway the point is, we could never have considered something like this were it not for folks like you watching, sharing and buying our work. We're constantly astounded by your generosity and support and we really hope that we never reach a point where we're taking it for granted.
In other news... take a look at this: open.spotify.c...
It just appeared in the last couple of days and appears to be an editorial playlist of a bunch of our tracks made by the Spotify editorial team. We're vaguely aware that this is a positive sign, and we can only assume that we've reached some magical number in our streams or monthly listeners that has triggered this.
Ironically, the most popular cover we have on Spotify is Depth Over Distance by Ben Howard, which is approaching 3.5k streams (at least ten times more than any other track has accrued), and yet, here on RU-vid it's one of our worst performing videos of this year. And I mean absolutely terrible numbers. We wonder what it is about the RU-vid video that is so much less appealing than the audio alone.
Actually, don't answer that. I promise we're getting back to the gym.
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this little classic, and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you a thousand times over. Take care of yourself and others, and we'll see you soon!!
Mat & Soph

PS - so far only one person has found our secret new channel. He's been in touch to let us know it wasn't worth the hour of internet sleuthing. 🤣
