🔴 WATCH NEXT - Seiko vs Orient [The ULTIMATE Battle] SKX013 - 5KX - Ray II - Kamasu 👉 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4XnxnbVQUDc.html ERRATUM: the indices are stamped from the back of the dial, not applied. This is probably the reason why they're not as sharp and flawless as the other (properly applied) indices I'm talking about. Thanks for pointing that out guys.
I just bought the green one, cried my eyes when it arrived, just can't get over the beauty of it, its changed me as a person, I can't thank seiko enough, THANK YOU SEIKO
i am SO CLOSE to ordering one. But i want the seiko SNXS79 as well :( Decisions decisions, i might get both lol but if i should only choose one, this green one looks amazing
Considering 90% of dive watches have never even seen the ocean, the omission of water resistance is warranted. Granted, if you're not going to make a water resistant dive watch, why make a dive watch at all?
I think the answer is rather obvious. Because the style is very popular and they may sell a lot of units, not to mention the vast majority of people buying dive or dive style watches never come close to testing the max depth of their watches.
I disagree. The 5 is being touted as a SKX replacement. The 100m water resistance is paraded as "enough". The SKX is an ISO certified divers watch. The 5 is a water resistant sports watch and should not be classified as dive watch. I wouldn't wear a 5 in the shower never mind open water.
Super underrated. I was one of those people who was indifferent about this range but after trying it on, it just clicked with me and I actually bought one! The size and comfort were big factors - it wears smaller and more comfortable than what I'd thought for someone with a 6.5 inch wrist. The quality is much better vs the SKX across the board - my blue dial has none of the issues depicted in the video and feels much more premium vs the SKX (this is coming from someone who owns Rolexes, Tudors, GS and Omega's). Sure you lose the 200M water resistance but I've got my BB58 if I do want to dive and I'd rather have a better movement than better water resistance. Highly suggest any doubters to try them out in person. For people bitching about the price: boutiques will offer sizeable discounts (I got 25% off for my) or you can wait because the price will come down most definitely. Great watch!
People who shop only online, don't realize that shopping in a boutique not only offers the HUGE benefits of trying out the watch, and touching what you buy. But also, as you said, it's fairly easy to get a discount. Most boutiques I go to, offer me a discount, as soon as they see my interest. And we can often discuss it further. That also builds a relationship with the seller. At the end of the day, even if the price is higher than a shady grey market that avoids taxes and stuff, the experience beats it and you know where goes the money, and compared to reputable, not shady online seller, the price is not much different, with more benefits.
Completely agree with what you said. Quality is unreal for this price point. I also had no debris issues with mine. This watch is practical to use everyday and comfortable. I was worried that it would feel awkward being 42mm as opposed to the more in line 39mm case like a Sub or Speedy, but it’s spot on. Buy this watch guys, buy it for yourself not to invest, that being said, I can see these being more valuable than MSRP one day.
@@fteambjj its a good back up on your left wrist for submerged time.. I have a frogman analog 200meter and it does well enough for this , computer on the right hand frogman on the left with the dive mode to log location and duration.. although the computer does this as well we all know computers fail it is good to have redundancy. But mostly i use the frog for snorkling , jet sky, quick swim around the boat.
Let's be honest using a "dive watch" to actually dive is completely redundant nowadays. I think this watch looks great, a lot more so than the SKX. At the end of the day wearing a dive watch is a fashion choice and not a practical one. Seiko have realised that, and this is their response.
@@TimedSquare Only watch enthusiasts buy automatic watches. The non enthusiast will buy quartz or solar. Regular folks would never tolerate the constant setting and lack of accuracy.
I agree. I'll never go 200 m diving in my SKX, but, it's knowing that it can if needed. I know that may sound mad, but I think that's how many ppl feel. It's just nice to know you have a pro watch on your wrist. I think not having that, and lack of screw down crown are these watches biggest negative.
@@SirStamford27 I totally agree, the SKX was a very good watch and definitely sets the standard. I just don't believe this is the true replacement, it's more like a tarted up version for casual wear. If you judge this watch by its own merits I think it stands up pretty well, and the price will most likely drop given time. I reckon we'll see the true replacement appear in the prospex line up with very utilitarian styling.
@@GoddamnRED 100% agree, these are not replacements. These are not entry levels divers. These are good Seiko 5s but not SKX replacements. If anything now, the turtles are the replacements. I love the SKX and always will. All they needed to do was update the movement, and add drilled lugs, kept everything else, and ppl would have loved them.
In my mind there is no doubt that Seiko wants to be a more exclusive brand, but they really need to get their quality controll sorted out, so you do not have to be a bloody expert on watches to buy one. Thank you for yet another keen video, compliments du Danemark 👍
Greg you are quite right about that, but it certainly is another level, I like Seiko Prospex LX Spring Drive a lot, but seize is too big for me the Stig
Handled it in person. Changed my mind. For an everyday beater that’s aesthetically pleasing, comfortable, with quality finishing and a good movement I can stomach the lack of ISO very and screw down crown. The only water it’s seeing is the water cooler at work. Bought one today. It’s the epitome of the Seiko vintage SQ150 diver
No longer ISO certified, no longer 100m WR, Pip is no longer lumed, no more screw-down crown and now for $100 more. So, it has a hacking and hand-wind movement but the accuracy is just the same with 7s26 movement. I opted with the Sharkey SKX version with the unbranded NH35 movement(hacking and hand-wind), sapphire crystal with AR,, better bracelet for $135 delivered.
@Patricia 18 y.o - check my vidéó the diving part is just an extra feature for this watch. With this feature, I can wear it more regularly comparing to other watches and of course for swimming/diving as well if any chances arrived.
I bought two of these watches just because of the designs, one for suit and one for casual. The only thing that’s matters to me is the looks and water resistance. But it’s a little weird they have a besel when they aren’t dive watches, but I just couldn’t find any watches that looks better, so I had no choice😍
I very nice review. This is not a replacement for the SKX. It’s a Seiko 5 Sports and is comparable to other Seiko 5 Sport Models. 100m wr, push-pull crown, Display caseback, no lume pip. I have 3 SKXs, it is a great watch, it needed the 4r36 and better straps. The biggest problem come with this new series is the price. I feel it’s too expensive at this point, hopefully it comes down in the future. I do like the green version, but the version with the silver hands. They also do have J1 versions of this series, Gnoman has them, but they are too expensive, starting at $300 US. You forgot about the Mini Turtle. It’s another ISO diver that Might fit to your preference.
just purchased this exact watch (blue) and it is fantastic!!! silicone strap is very comfortable and will stay on this wonderful watch... was able to purchase at a kohl’s department store ( in the chicago area for, with sales tax included, $167 usd. It retailed for $295 usd plus tax but with the multiple sales kohls had at the time I got a price before tax of $154.68 usd!!! I always buy watches on line but stopped by the jewelry department at kohl’s and was surprised to see they had four seiko 5’s on display. had to buy it at this price!!!!
I think you made a good point, a lot of people like the idea of a “modded” SKX but don’t have the skills or tools to do it themselves. Now they have 27+ options for already “modded” SKX style watches. 👍. I do wish Seiko had used a solid case back so as to make the watch thinner, and sit better on the wrist because, let’s be honest, the 4R35 is not some highly decorated movement you’ll spend hours studying 😉.
Finally a proper review! Thanks. 😊 I won't buy one. 😝 Much prefer my SKX009... this is a "sports watch" that's aping a diver... I'd rather they separate them more. It kind of feels like an SKX homage fashion watch to me.
I really like how some of these look, but at this price point I expect them to get on top of the continuing misalignment issues and a Sapphire crystal. Honestly I don't see myself buying any more Seiko watches in the foreseeable future since there's so much better value to be had elsewhere for us low-budget watch collectors.
Agree. Seiko 5's are known for their affordability. This is all hype and once people dont buy this model, prices would go down hopefully. Sarb033 is what i want or the alpinist
@@fastbikesandtoomuchcoffee6871 Besides the ones that Martrex mentioned I think Chinese brands such as Heimdallr and San Martin also offer great value for money. But there's loads of microbrands out there too. Just a few I like would be Boldr, Traska, Nodus and Geckota, but there are so many others these days.
Hello Alexandro. Today i bought this, my first Seiko SRPD63K1, after seeing this video of yours, many many times over months (and researching etc). Thank you very much Alexandro.
I bought that exact same model. I love it. It’s not pretentious, well built and fun to wear. So far I don’t seem to have the clasp issue you mentioned. I don’t see it at all as an skx replacement and I’m thinking of adding that one too to my collection. Nice and extensive review!
I really like the new S5 , a swim up room on holiday is the most water resistance I'll need. The green dial , in particular , is a lovely looking watch. I've always had Seiko watches but arrived too late to the SKX party , just way too expensive here in the UK. So , I'll get one of the new S5s probably when the initial price starts to drop.
Thanks for the great review. The pictures in the ads make the green look kind weird but now that I see it in your video I will be buying this watch. Thanks again. Cheers.
Sorry to the new watch enthusiasts that they can’t get an SKX for a decent price BUT they have lots of good options that have good specs but don’t carry the same name. Thanks for the review!
I ordered one for around $360 (Olive Green dial) and kind of regreting it when you can pick up a Samurai for $290 on Amazon .... as well as an SKX 007, 009 and 013 for around $260 - $290 ! Yes they're still out there what a surprise! Not.
I hear so many people complaining about the new srpd Sekio 5 being only 100m and not iso certified. The new Seiko 5 srpd is not a replacement for the skx, it's a replacement for the snzf series (sea urchin). The old snzf 7S movement did not have hacking or manual wind, so the new 4R is an improvent. Also the snzf was rated for 100m and sold for around 180 dollars which is in line with what these new srpd Seiko 5's are selling for in department stores. So for all those complaining how about how the new srpd's are inferior to the old skx's, do some research. The turtle and the samurai are the true replacement for the skx.
It's a pretty watch, and even though i understand the appeal for them i would buy an Orient Kamasu at that price point. Saphire glass and 200m water resistance but comes with less colour options
Just got into watches a few months ago. Got the SKX009 (Pepsi), then the 5 Sports: DressKX Blue (SRPE53) and recently this Green 💚 (SRPD63). LOVE them all. Nice Video Alejandro !
I got this very model during the Xmas sales , got it for £189 from a UK wide store. I have a 7 ³/⁴ " wrist , I feel the dial and the bezel looks rather small , I really like this watch . The colour on the dial is really nice , as you say at some points looking black , then when it catches the light it's shines a really lovely shade of green. Also the gold accents on the indices are a nice contrast too.
I have the green dial and bezel with gold highlights. I love mine, and have owned it for 5 months now. It keeps great time with around a 6 seconds a day gain. Everything works smoothly with only a slight wobble on the bezel. I am going to add a 2 tone bracelet from strap code and maybe a ceramic bezel. The line up on the rehort and indices line up perfectly also. I agree, a small gold frame round the day/date would add a nice touch, as would a screw in crown like the older 5s had.
Just bought this exact watch (SRPD63K1) today, for 280 euro. The green colour is really, really beautiful. I've had expensive watches in the past (Oris, Mauric LaCroix Masterpiece), but almost never weared them because I was afraid to damage or lose them. So I sold them and for years I had no watch. Untill today.
Brilliant in depth review. I'm still not 100% sold on these exactly for the reason you say 😂 the 'automatic' font bugs me but otherwise they look great. Love the metal outlines on the markers as well. I can see these will be brilliant for modding in a few years as well.
Lul the automatic bugs you, well so on 99% of AUTOMATIC watches its written so all watches bugs you, i cant believe why stupid people always trying to find something that "bothers" them without reason and logic.
Agree with your viewpoint of owning this srpd6X more as trend styling in the first place. I can always wear my other dive-spec watch if I were going to dive. Considering the main purpose of daily casual yet reliable timing, I'm happy to own this Seiko srpd65. It's a good looking watch with high visibility & legibility. Trendy yet classy.
Very nice review. Complete and clear about all facts ie; movement, size info on the bracelet link, pins vs screws (or the dreaded,at least by me, pin and collar system.) I've been eyeing the SRPD63 vs SRPD61 and I think the 63 is the hands down winner. Your review has been a very big help in the decision making process. If only Seiko would incorporate sapphire crystals and milled fold over clasp and a screw down crown then I believe this watch would be perfect. But, as you've pointed out very well, most of us engage in desk diving as opposed to the underwater version. So, just enjoy this piece as a fun way to show your style. (Divers, tool watches, chronographs and pilot watches are definitely my favorite style.) Best wishes, stay safe, I look forward to watching TSW for more content.
@Phoenix 𝙾𝚙𝚎𝚗 𝙼𝚢 PROFILE Great choice! That's exactly why I chose the SRPD63. That and it's at least $19,700 less expensive than the "Hulk" Sub (if you can even find one.) Enjoy your new timepiece, it wears great!
I would love to get an skx but the movement is so so so outdated. If they would've just updated the movement in the skx to the 4r35/36 they would've had my sale but now that these are less than 200 it's a no brainier
I just received my SRPD71K2 , Blue bezel, cream accents, rubber strap version and it is perfect. Alignment, watch face and case with no imperfections visible even under the magnifier. Its not a SKX replacement and its not meant to be .Its a good looking sports watch, rugged enough for work, great looking for play. I picked it up for 245USD on sale from a handler and for what you get thats plenty of bang for your buck. Come on how many of us need 200m water proofing in a watch anyway.
Yes I agree with you Seiko seem to be producing large watches still when the trend is to go back to smaller sizes of watches. Casio have recognised the trend also and have addressed it and are really producing some great quartz analogue watches at around 40mm with great quality and great affordable prices. Two recent Casio's I purchased which are not from the Edifice range of watches are better quality than some of my more expensive watches from Seiko and other brands of watch I have.
The new design is much better looking than the original SKX, but Seiko still has accuracy problem with their entry watches. Orient and many other brands have much better accuracy at the same price point. The weird thing is the fact that most of the 4RXX movements consistently run slow, so I guess they can just make them run a bit faster; problem solved. But great review!
These are a very good value, my new one is running +/- 4-5 secs per day, I have a few very nice automatic watches, and I’m using this Seiko and abusing it as a daily beater. Handsome watch
My wrist is just under seven inches and this watch is perfect for me - I love it. It doesn't wear like a 42mm watch because of the slight 'taper' between the case and the bezel.
Hey Alessandro - great video man! So I think SEIKO are GENIUS!! A SEIKO 5 has never had this much press - ever! The whole Internet has been blowing up on this release for over six months - Rolex and Tudor WISH they had this kind of press. The ‘diver’s watch’ argument is SOOO tired already. Folk forget that the early Blancpain Fifty Fathoms was less than 100m resistant. This line is going to take mechanical watches to a new generation and all of us 30 something watchers will be able to continue our hobbies thanks to SEIKO and companies likes them (including the plethora of micro-brands - most of whom rock the NH35/36 movements and many of whom wouldn’t stand a chance at survival if SEIKO offered the SKX with sapphire, a 4R36 movement and 200m WR) A job well done
Just got the exact model like yours and it looks much better in person! Reminds me of the seiko alpinist green dial. Also in malaysia they re sold for less than £200!
I have this watch and it's fantastic, I had difficults to find it because these were sold out and the factories were down due to covid, after many weeks I could finally get one and now it's completely out of stock again on the Seiko website. The green is a bestseller. On a side note, this watch resists up to 100m (theoric - lab testing) so don't worry about the crown nor the swimming pool.
Great review. Just ordered the blue one today. I use a smartwatch normally but really wanted an alternative mechanical watch. Looking forward to checking it out.. Thanks for the review. Just subscribed. 👍
Just bought one of these - great design but indeed the bezel is about a half click off the chapter ring.. and once you see that at 12 o'clock you can't unsee it!
Awesome video! You seem to be the very first one I've seen who's not comparing SEIKO 5 with SKX, thank goodness! The new SEIKO 5 adopted the look & feel from SKX, but people can't seem to keep it in their little heads that they are not and never have been intended to be 'replacements' to the SKX! It's never endorsed as a diver's watch, hence 'DIVER'S 200m' is no longer on display. How hard is that to understand?
If you still haven’t bought one of these yet and are scanning comments while this is in your Amazon cart or shopping list, just do yourself a favour. Go and buy one. It’s so choice, quality is incredible and you can find them for less than msrp as well. I got mine 50% off MSRP!
The 200m water resistance is pointless for mass majority. The watch falls in line with most S5. I know 3 people with SKX and those watch have never been in the water. S5 are for bar hooping and desk diving. I will be getting at least one.
I like these a lot, Seiko realised everyone was modding the SKX and wanted a piece of the action. Love my SKX and wanted a Pepsi next (009), however might as well get the new 5 now so I can enjoy the hand winding. 200m was nice but 100m is no big shakes plus the prices will fall soon I’m sure.
I always thought the 007 would be too big for me, so I've been looking for a 013 for a long time (with no luck), but I tried this on in the store and it was just fine. Got one there and then. Love it!
In my country srpd63, Pepsi and all black with pvd prices did not go down too far. Stable or even you can raise prices up to 20%. Because it is rare for certain colors such as Hulk, Pepsi and all black.
I wanted a watch I can go snorkling with. The only way youll ever see my 100 meters under water is if I'm wearling concrete shoes and a lead overcoat, so 200 meters is irrelevant to me. I just ordered this watch and cant wit to collect it tomorrow :) Thanks for the review, it was very informative.
It’s very unusual to see blemishes on a Seiko or there sister company Pulsar. The watch actually looks amazing on the wrist my friend. Don’t forget you can always get your watch repairer / jeweller to alter the crown to a screw down crown plus he can change the rubber gasket’s in order to take the watch down to 200m possibly 300m .
These definitely address the modding culture. "True" modders will never accept any factory design, but so what? These are aimed at everyone else who won't be taking something apart but like how an SKX looks. Not a diver? So what. The $295 or whatever "normal" price obviously isn't sustainable, as evidenced by recent Black Friday deals that reveal $120-$180 or so.
I have the the one with the milanese strap and the black background. Very good value for money. I can wear it during business meeting and on weekends too.
Believe it or not, outside of the patented Rolex design, a screw down crown doesn't improve water resistance at all. Best thing it can do for you is reducing the chance of pulling it out while working undersea. This is why you had no issue swimming without screwing it down. It's a crazy thing that everyone on youtube and most forums believe that the screw down increases the water resistance.
