Since you added the medium solves, I appreciate the new format of less detail.

Yes, I also found this one "weird" at first. I came back here and once you cleaned up column 8 by finding the triple and the pair, that got me on track. Then as you pointed out, that opened the door to the 178 triple in r8. That cracked the puzzle for me. Really good solve. I'm also enjoying the medium walkthroughs. Thanks!

I like the pacing of this, and your rather more minimalist explanations - which were still enough to follow your thought process. Nice.

First kind comment! This one was truly fun and hard, as you correctly observe. I *really* like your approach of using the daily "medium" puzzle to explain the more common techniques like pointing and crossings. Possible spoiler follows ... Speaking of crossings, there's a crossing on 4s on row 8 in box 8 that makes the solve a little easier (it puts corner-marked 4s in r7c5 and r9c5. I happened to catch that a bit earlier than you, and it made the solve go a little easier as the other singles fell out. I love your new format for the daily "hard" solve, and really enjoyed this one.

Nice spot on the 178. Got the other triple and the singles, but missed that.

I'm fairly new to the game, and learned a lot from this solve. I also appreciate the new format. Thanks!

11 minutes today. a very straighforward solve. I always scan for 1s in the whole puzzle, then 2s then 3s and so on. this meant I filled in quite a few numbers quickly for this puzzle.

Wow! You found the hidden triple so fast. It took me forever.

21.54. Got a real buzz finding the 578 triple in box 6, but could have got it on the initial scan I think. These videos helping me find triplets and quads although I didn't see the 178 triple today. That's maybe why I was slow clearing up at the end. Fun puzzle. Pace of video about right. Thank you for doing medium as well - that took longer today again!

I managed the puzzle. A couple of surprise quads and triples appeared to help me, as well as pairs. I had a definite sense of strangeness during the puzzle, and feared that I would find that I'd broken the puzzle. I encountered a deadly pattern threat, a "uniqueness rectangle" -- 18, with 168 in one cell. I followed my usual practice, color the cell and cornermark the 6 as my prediction. 7:00 I found the 178 backwards, by first finding the 3569 quad in row 8 simply from filling out blocks. The triple promptly led to a 1789 quad in block 7, which gave me a 46 pair and a digit. I found other pairs as well. 12:40 There's that deadly pattern threat in rows 7 and 8, blocks 7 and 9. 13:00 Glad to hear that it wasn't just myself finding the puzzle strange. 15:00 That first triple was 578 in block 6.

I missed the second triple and ended up taking 1 hour and 20 minutes to solve. I'll admit I'm slow to solve on a good day but "good day slow" is 40 minutes, not twice that much like today 😂 🙈

Great help with hidden triples. I manage medium 95% of the time and hard 60% but not fast.

Like the new format of more detailed explanations on the medium puzzles, then doing less so with the hard, unless of course there is something that would need further explainer.

4:29 stupid triples! For me the thing that will be helpful in this one is how did you think to look for that? What cued you into it? (I have paused your video at this point so if you explain it later, apologies!) edited to add: with the other things I already had, that 578 triple broke the puzzle open for me and the rest fell into place. But I was completely stuck and didn’t see that. So anything that you can do, maybe in your mediums, to help identify that sort of situation as something to look for would be helpful!

Paying attention to givens is key. A given in a box removes that digit from 3 cells in each row and column that it's not in. If you have several givens in a box all removing themselves from 3 cells in a row or column then they have to share the remaining 6 cells. Often this can cause restrictions like hidden pairs or triples.

@@Rangsk this makes sense logically, but still for me it is hard to see when I’m looking at the puzzle. If you see this in your mediums, would love if you could really call it out. Maybe it’s just me that struggles with triples (I can’t even imagine quads !) but I’m thinking it would be helpful for those of us who are kind of on the cusp of understanding these things. Thank you!!
