This update is pretty weird as getting 20 reliable friends who can test the app for an introvert indie dev can be hard. I guess a publication fees for each app would have made more sense.

I used to work on airplane IFE systems and our QA team was like 5 people. Google basically just gave the finger to small developers.

@Hitesh , A lot of companies have a criteria that a person applying for a mobile development role has to have atleast 1 app published on play store. Now getting 20 reliable friends to test is just adding more to this just make this more difficult.

Actually Google is also very strict about resources such as cameras, microphones, storage,... collecting data,...you have to provide details and enough reasons why you need to have access to those resources. Besides, you have to explicitly tell everything in your app policy so that users are aware of what's happening behind the scenes, respecting their privacy,...I have published 5 apps on Google play and because of very strict policies, every time it was a big pain in the heart and lots of work. I did more work publishing the app than building the app. About the iOS system: from the user's perspective I can tell that iOS doesn't respect your privacy. It totally ignored what I explicitly disabled in the settings. iOS gives you some options for having some control over your privacy But it doesn't respect that, especially when it comes to the Apple itself. The Android system has much better privacy control than iOS.

I was thinking of launching my app to the Android platform, but with this I don't know, I do not have people who will leave their important personal work and test my app. The only thing that this will do is limit some genuine and fantastic apps not to be in the Store.

Apple uses human testers to test an app, and they fund the testing by utilizing the annual fees. That’s the way to go.

I'm not sure the £100 pet year is actually better service but I don't disagree with Google's being awful, but I wonder if somebody couldn't do a better job who didn't have a vested interest in the platform it was hosted on, say an Amazon app store for all platforms, probably a terrible example but I just mean a third party vendor

Classic Google policy here. Putting all the blame and hard work on the user/customer side to clean their mess. Android itself got famous because of these crappy/indie developers who made 1000s of app for free. Ios everything is paid.

I mean I understand people getting criticism for developing apps with malware. But if it's simply someone that didn't put a lot effort into the app, I don't think they should be docked that much for that. If there is misplaced hate then I think that gets us into a dark place. A lot of newbie developers probably get in, like I did and think they could make a lot of money off of a simple app. People expect a lot and give very little. You see other apps on the app store that are very basic that have a million downloads. That leads people to think they can do the same thing, but not only do they not get the money and women, they get criticized for their work. Let's face it a lot the people that released low quality apps probably have improved by now. I think it's probably unfair and motivated by greed. Other developers don't want the competition.

Renting developer account is risky, You can get banned so easily for the crime of others, DON"T EVER RENT YOUR DEVELOPER ACCOUNT TO ANYBODY... ONCE BANNED GOOGLE WILL HUNT ANY ACCOUNT YOU USE IN FUTURE. DON'T TRY IT

Guess the nice thing about Android is that you don't have to publish your app in their store for users to use it unlike iOS. But it's hard to imagine finding 20 testers, from close friends, especially when you're an introvert indie developer, but 20 people who have android phones. Most of the people I know have Apple phones.

This is a challenge but not that big of a challenge. Just form a partnership with 20 other upcoming devs and agree to test each others apps for 14 days. It can also be an opportunity to learn from others and also its a way of forming professional networks. Actually i would rather this than them having to ask for an annual subscription. I understand Google needs to meet quality standards and this might actually end up helping devs in the long run. Because of this hurdle, it might become necessary for many developers to charge a fee for their applications thus normalizing charging for android apps.

I published an App a week ago and there are none like this that add 20 friends, maybe that option is present in internal or open testing although I have publish app as production not in testing mode.
