I've not listened to much Scofield, but after hearing "Cracked Ice" I wanted to get some of the lines down, so here are 3, increasing in difficulty that you might want to try out over static Dorian vamps!

That does not even vaguely remind me of sco……..he doesn’t blow through lines…..he plays one note and then listens until he hears the next note and then reluctantly plays that and then w waits until he hears the next one

I had a feeling there would be a comment like this. What do you mean Scofield doesn’t blow through lines? I be heard him play bebop lines a lot and it sure fours sound like blowing through lines to my ears. Sure, he has a an amazing feel and supreme note choice. One can only try to emulate that, and that’s what I think John is doing here. He has his own style so, I don’t think he’s trying to copy Scofield 1:1. It would make no sense.

I think John Cordy just chose the lines that appealed to him and have more similarity to his own playing, even though it may not be what Scofield is known for, that’s fine

Nice! John Scofield A Go Go is still a fav of mine. These vids (jazz licks) prob aren't as popular, but I enjoy them more over the "are tube amps going away" videos.

Ok... gear matters, but I'm a way worse player than my rig sounds. In the modern era of guitar and effects, its not very difficult or expensive to get album/stage quality tones... with the hx stomp i've got whatever tone I want within 2 minutes. It's just wether I can pull off playing the song.

Awesome! My intro to Scofield was actually the album “Out Louder,” with Medeski, Martin and Wood. It’s been a long time since I’ve listened to that, I’ll have to give it a spin again! Also got to see Scofield at a jazz fest like 10 years ago. He’s so good!

You should take this post down. What you have done here has absolutely NOTHING to do with Scofield's guitar style. Just adding vibrato at the end of a legato line is NOT Scofield's style. It is not even good vibrato if you are trying to sound like Sco. I am not going to say anything more other than this is irresponsible. Anyone interested in hearing what Scofield actually sounds like and doesn't already know can put the following in the search window " John Scofield & Pat Metheny (6/29/94) "Everybody's Party"

Wayne, it sounds like maybe you have imbibed either too little or too much of some substance. The video is about the notes that Scofield plays in the song Cracked Ice. If I wanted to make a video about Scofield's vibrato or "guitar style" from Wayne's point of view, I would have asked you if you had any tips, but that's not the video I tried to make.

@@johnnathancordy What I have imbibed is too much worthless internet crap posturing as worthwhile content and the drivel of sycophants. Your title says "Scofield' Licks" but just providing a few notes is not a Scofield lick. If you can't actually play it the way it is presented by Scofield then it is worthless. Try showing up to a gig and telling everyone "well I can't actually play the music, but I know the notes". This is your channel and you can post what you like, but what you post represents you, your skills, your thought process, your professionalism. You seem to aspire to higher professional levels of music. Do you think there are any really good artists out there looking for a guy who knows the notes but can't play the lick? Learn the material, then make the podcast. I have actually been watching your channel for a few years. This was disappointing.

Pretty much everything Scofield is golden... Some a bit dated, some all-out classic & some wickedly modern... but all tasty (and time-shifty) which surely satisfy in the right moment(s)
