You NEED these units for your Guard! | 10th Edition | Astra Militarum Tactics 

Kriegers seem to the be the best base for this combo. The ability to regenerate d3 from indirect fire that will target you, +1 to hit for the whole blob once a single krieger bites the dust, and the ability to use stratagems even while battleshocked from the pcs make this unit an amazing durable utility piece with a surprising bit of punch to it

I think an important thing to note is lord solars extra cp generation! Even if you can cover the extra orders other ways, he’s really good just for the CP! same with creed! Fields of fire (2cp) for free every single turn!

Its such a auto include unit now, I run mine as follows: Lord solar, Platoon command squad w/master vox, medi pack, mortar, and the platoon commander with Drill commander enhancement, then infantry blob with 2 mortars and grenade launchers, sit back, fire out orders to arty, tanks, etc. while throwing out indirect mortar rounds doing lethals on 5s

I play this two ways, i either take a infantry squad with a mortar, and a platoon command squad with a mortar. Then camp them safe in the backline with solar and spread orders. Can even take the extra order on the command squad if you want 5 orders. And you also get two mortars so they can accualy do something while hiding away on homefield objective. The other way is just stick him with Dkok, a platoon command squad with Ogryn bodyguard and just jeet em up board. Lord solar having +1 to wound from the Dkok and the end of their life can be quite amusing.

GW should have let tank commanders order up to 3 other tanks within range with the same order.

Maybe worth adding that if you don’t like the Lord Solar model, it takes a head swap well and is also one of the most proxied in the Guard range. Loads of options.

Officers should be able to have the choice to order ANY and ALL units within 6inches, or any SINGLE unit with a vox anywhere on the map. This way it simulates that they either yell their orders for everyone to hear, or radioed to a specific unit. The better the officer the more orders they can issue Simples.

Really hoping when the actual Codex comes out there’ll either be an Enhancement you can take to let an Officer issue Orders to vehicles and/or one you can take for a vehicle to allow it to issue an Order to another vehicle like the 9th edition Tank Ace ability. Or even one that lets a Tank Commander issue more than one Order. It’s odd to have to take the Lord Solar with every vehicle list just to be able to give more than one vehicle an Order. And Tank Commanders are still expensive and strangely still can’t give Orders to their own tank.

I feel like there is a hole in the roster right now. You can get like 10 different flavours of regiment orders, but only Lord S and Tank Commander for squadron. I feel there will be some new model for squadron orders some time soon, maybe when the codex drops. Be it a Rommel style buggy (which would be very cool), a command Rogal or something completely different. Im willing to bet 1 person a pot of Castellan Green about this.

To audio listeners the dataslate has changed everything, mainly big tanks are cheaper and tank commanders with demolisher cannons are 205 points. Basically u r paying 5 points more for a squadron order and shoots on death. They are very good now.

Hopefully by 2025 when the guard codex drops it’ll have more access to vehicle orders

Great tactic, but i wont be buying a Lord Solar unfortunately. That and I feel tank commanders need to spash their orders. Fluff wise, the tank commander could switch to a squadron frequency anyway and order tanks from there, rather than a specific frequency for each tank.

Supreme command squad with infantry, who takes a mortar, and the command squad who takes another mortar, sitting next to creed to feed these 2 mortars fields of fire to prime a target. platoon commander can order a sentinel unit, and creed orders two heavy weapons team (both mortars), to fix for lethal hits.

Throw in a Ogryn Bodyguard and you have yourself a Deal!!

My tanks get orders from a tank commander. As the god emperor indented. Not some flowery noble on a horse.

I stubbornly refuse to run leontus. I dislike auto include units, especially if they're special characters.

I don't mean to be rude about this, but I will say I do actually find it kind of funny that you never mention that this unit will then also have an additional officer in it, netting the ubitca FOURTH order, and while I admit that might seem less relevant, since we are discussing Leontus bossing around the big metal boxes, and that Commander would be limited to ordering infantry, it's still not nothing, and Guard definitely looks like it might be moving in the direction of mech infantry, so there will probably be some footmen around, supporting those tanks, who could also use an order. Might also grab the regimental advisors/attaches, for perks, ot just a few extra Wounds, to keep not Macharius alive!😊 Still, I'm really glad that the Lord Solar has gone over so well. I was hoping that they would eventually get a Guard Supreme Commander, and he's good, even if that paint scheme on the official art still kinda bugs me, and he didn't get to keep Macharius' 3++ save. Oh well, if Guilliman can't have it, I guess "just a Lord of Terra" wouldn't, either, and atbleast his is a 4++, and not 5++.

Where do i fnd the rule that says you can add 2 leaders to batteline units??? I thought i remembered seeing it, but then couldnt find it again, can someone point me in the right direction

I JUST bought a Lord Solar after trying out the same combo but with Ursula Creed.

With the new points drop, what are your thoughts on the tank commander now?

so...even if you swap in creed and were using her free stratagems to throw out fields of fires to the rest of the army your still investing like like 175 points (or 245 with leontus) for a unit that really only has like 1 heavy weapon and a few assault weapons and that isnt particularly survivable. the kaskrin creed ball seems like it can do all the same things minus being able to throw stratagems in quite the same way (but still useful) and the ball seems like it would have a lot more firepower and a good amount more survivability for only a few points more.... but im a noob so i dont really know lol

what about for a 1k point game? that's a pretty hefty number of pounds

I typically go for a Proxied lord solar (official model is horrible) 2x infantry squads, infantry command squad all with mortars for a baby mortar pit. Give the pl the grand strategist. The pl orders the plt (really the mortars) and an armored sentinel squadron. Lord solar orders the demolisher, exterminator and the hydra.

For the Tank commanders, I think that whole index should be removed from the game and the tank commander is set as a option for all the other Russ variants. Though you still also have the option to include a enhancement. Tech commanders, even with the points reduction are still garbage.

Lord solar represents everything i hate about 10th edition and competitive play

honestly depends if you are using a mechanized list. A infantry heavy list can do with just Creed and command squads.

what im trying to do is isntead of spending too much on supporting units like the lord solar, i just take more tanks to make up for the worse balistic skill. Also I take tanks that buff each other while still dealing some damage, like hellhounds, sentinels, and extermiantors. I just dont like that horse riding douchebag. (he is too specific to convert and i already have lots of models, im not buying that guy)

Well, I'm not getting Lord Solar since Mordian Glory and I promised not to buy any more GW products (I have not forgotten). I'll get around to getting proxy or counts-as eventually.

Still sucks you HAVE to take lord solar if you want any sort of efficient squadron orders/CP generation and still looking at at least 245~ for the squad and an ugly ass model.

You really dont though. Its boring seeing everyone run the same thing. Just because you like it doesnt make it auto include.

as nice as the rules are i dont think i could bring myself to field the Lord Solar Leontus model in my army, looks out of place, not a fan of the model at all.
