SHOPPING AT THE BIGGEST FOOD MARKET IN ACCRA GHANA | THE COST OF FOOD IN GHANA | LIVING IN GHANA
With another day in Accra, Ghana ahead of me, I set out bright and early to check out an amazing West African market! Join me as I explore the biggest market in Accra and buy some local Ghana produce to cook delicious Ghana food later on.
At this Accra market you can shop for anything from snails, fresh vegetables, meat, fish and cooked Ghana street food. The prices of food has increased significantly within a very short period of time. In this video i buy food in bulk and we get to compare the final cost of food now versus the last time i was in a market.
This market is a must see if you ever head into Ghana and you want to connect with the reality of most local Ghanaians living in Ghana.

My name is Jasmine and I have relocated from Sydney Australia to Ghana in west Africa as of the year 2020.
My parents are of Ghanaian descent and so am I although I was born in Australia. Here on my channel, my goal is to give you a real glimpse into what it’s like to live in Ghana, from the Ghanaian food, to the Ghanaian culture, to the Ghanaian lifestyle and everything in between. My goal is to satisfy your curiosity about Ghana and help inspire to explore Ghana.
My prayer is that these videos do just that for several African’s in the diaspora.
Follow your bliss because life is short, follow your bliss because human life has no intrinsic value, follow your bliss because everything happens for the greater good and follow your bliss because it has all happened before.

Living in Ghana now has made me understand the value of money even more, because now I know first hand how inflation affects citizens on "THEIR" budget, not my western mindset. Now I'm bargaining with prices and services like a local. Seriously, Ghana must grow more of their own food, and citizens must buy more local goods. Let's start there.

It's the govt that should get serious. The fooling is too much. Just ban/reduce the import of rice, tomatoes, sugar, chicken, stuff we can produce here locally. That one too we can't do? Nigeria has banned the import of rice, and there's huge patronage for Nigeria rice. We should go beyond appeals for Ghanaians to buy made in Ghana stuff. Ban/reduce imports and support local production. Oh
@YawAsafo

True, and the mindset of the citizenry must change too, because I have to search for local rice, because the citizenry mostly want foriegn rice.

Accra is gradually becoming a city for the rich and mid class… its developing so fast making cost of living quite high. Accra is turning into New York, london and many other expected cities. Eventually people will start moving to other regions for survival. Its just a matter of time unfortunately.

I use to shop here every Saturday when I lived in Ghana. The gov't needs to work on the agriculture sector. For those saying it's cheap because of the conversion, the prices are not cheap for the average Ghanaian. Agbogbloshie market is like the wholesale for the neighborhood grocery shops. You can imagine their prices. For the average Ghanaian, this is unsustainable.

This video really opened my eyes. I am being cheated at DOME market, the tomatoes I buy for 40 cedis in the market here is not even up to 20 pieces. I need to go to makola markets. Sometimes these sellers notice you’re not Ghanaian and they increase the prices. Same thing with buying of sanitary pad the other day, this lady sold me pad for 30 cedis and it cost about 15 cedis or 10 when I later bought at the mall. It’s not really good what some of these sellers do to foreigners who don’t speak their language.

The govt that should be championing this is asleep. Every modern important country is ditching plastic but not Ghana. Crowded important cities are doing Bus Rapid Transit brt but not Ghana, hotel prices are cheaper in richer more popular Nigeria, Kenya etc but not Ghana etc etc. To tell you how upside down some stuff are here

Wow!!!!!!!! Everything you bought is like $50. The same stuff in America will be close to $1000. I understand that both are two totally different economies but if you live in a Western country, Ghana is VERY CHEAP! However, I also understand $50 is ALOT for the average Ghanaian making a living in Ghana. Nice video!

You guys keep on complaining, but none of you want to build your own farm to produce food for the market consumes.. Who do you guys expect them to farm for you.. In the west here,they farm their own food and they're very proud to be called as farmers.. But in Africa continent, farmers are undermined and Mistreated badly...

Which farmer in USA uses a cutlass? Have you seen how inefficient farming is in Africa ? You runaway from your country of birth and enjoying from the toils of others only to talk by heart. Send your kids to Ghana to farm since your are wise.
@healthylifestyleletshareid6060
Who's birth country ?? Get your fact right.. OK. My point is Africans don't like farming business.. In overseas their rich peoples in investment in farming they see as profitable business... A rich Man like Bill Gates, he owns all the potatoes 🥔 farms which fast food chain used to make chips 🍟.. We Africans like to blame their Gov't for Every thing.. Israeli 🇮🇱 country landscape is full of desert. But they're the world producting of farm products... White people's see opportunity, whilst we Africans waste every opportunity... I'm also point out that farmers on our African continent been disrespect
@markntiri8251
@markntiri8251 Год назад
Unfair comparison. No bank loan for farmers because it's a risky venture, no govt support, no subsidies, poor roads, high fuel cost so stuff produced cheaply become expensive in the markets, no rail service, high post harvest losses, in ghana's case free market economy'so lots of cheap importation competing with local produce etc etc

The citizens need to grow more food in their backyard. Hot pepper will grow anywhere. Genger grows fast. Food should not be hard to grow. We have the same problem in Haiti 🇭🇹. Even the simplest to grow herbs 🌿 people refuse to plant them to alleviate the high cost of food. I still grow a good amount of my own food. In the USA 🇺🇸 😎 💕
