When i attempted heartgold i has Lofie the Noctowl She has Hypnosis Fly Shadow Ball Confusion (lack of accessible moves tms and exp so all my team was lvl 37 max) She was a solid special attacker but now i wish i went with fearow due to speed (lance’s team was so powerful my team of jolteon sudowoodo quagsire noctowl ariados and typhlosion was reduced to heal stall for jolteon spamming thunder and landing 12/15 times), and we lost I plan to try again in soulsilver instead with feraligatr persian xatu combo emphasizing exp for select few and then catching wild mon for rest of team
Saw Lanturn in the thumbnail and I had to watch. I love using Lanturn for its wide move pool. Your move set for it is very very similar to mine, except I use Thunderbolt and Ice Beam instead.
9:25 I used Lanturn with surf, discharge, ice beam (and waterfall because its needed) in a HeartGold playthrough last year. I actually had a Gengar with Thunderbolt back it up, but Lanturn defeated Lance's Aerodactyl in two hits!
I used my Lanturn with charge beam( cause you get sp.attack rise from that),surf, stockpile(makes Lanturn even more of a tank) and finally Ice Beam just for dragon type coverege.
My last playthrough, I tried out Forretress and... Let me tell you, I was blown away at how good it was. Great bug/steel is a great typing against team rocket and holds its own very well against the elite 4. It wasn't an overpowered move set but: light screen, bug bite, toxic, and rock tomb got me through the elite 4 much better than I personally expected
Noctowl has always been on my team whenever I play Gold/Silver/Crystal and I love using it in other regions too when I can. I know it's not everybody's cup of tea, but I fell in love with it since the anime. And though I gotta love lanturn, nothing beats mantine in my heart in Johto. I just adore its face and the idea of surfing on its back and flying through the air :P.
For the low accuracy moves, we can also grab the Wide Lens in the Goldenrod Game Corner for only 1,000 coins. Lanturn may even benefit more from the Zoom Lens since it's so slow and the boost from that is greater if you move second. If you're okay with replacing Muscle, you can grab a Machop with the No Guard ability in Mt. Mortar on your way to get Giraffarig. This allows Machoke to always hit with Dynamic Punch as well as Rock Tomb in the early game. Could also go with Rock Slide over Return after you beat Brock. For Arcanine's last move, we could go with Dragon Pulse to help with Lance. Unless you're emulating and can manipulate its IVs, I'd also replace Ninetales' Hidden Power with Nasty Plot since its special attack can be a bit underwhelming. Just grab a Heart Scale and relearn it in Blackthorn City. Other than those nitpicks/alternate options, this looks like a neat team that fits the underrated title. On to Hoenn!
I've used a Lanturn before in Crystal and HGSS in both regular and mono-Water runs, pretty good mon. I subbed out Thunder with Discharge though for accuracy. Signal Beam is just funny to use to slap Psychics and Dark-types. I am looking at you Exeggutor especially! I've only used Girafarig in HGSS, surprisingly good too. I decided to catch one before facing Morty. I can just point and laugh as he tries to use Shadow Ball only to watch it fail. He never used Sucked Punch which made it funnier.
These movesets feel like how i played as a kid. I think Lanturn has to have rain dance. It powes up surf and changes thunder's accuracy to 100. It adds some strategy to your battles
Playing for the first time with very little Pokémon knowledge. Right now I have Croconaw, Hoohoo, Sudowoodo, Exeggcute, and Flaffy. Only have 5 right now because I had Togepi but learned that I can’t get Togekiss so I ditched it. What should I get for my 6th?
I was thinking about that, I just didn't know if you guys were comfortable waiting that long to evolve Vulpix especially considering it would still be a Vulpix by the time you get to the elite four challenge. But I definitely second this if yall are willing to wait and be patient!
@@MysticUmbreon fair enough. I certainly am, since Vulpix is manageable enough to be acceptable on its own since HGSS isnt exactly difficult aside from solo runs
I wonder which Kanto Pokémon, and how many, would’ve been able to gain the Dark type in these games. The most obvious one is Gyrados, but I want to know which others could potentially gain the new type
I've seen some people say Arbok to get a Poison/Dark typing. Would have been cool to give Pinsir the Bug/Dark typing as a counterpart to Heracross' Bug/Fighting
A good thing about this list of you don't like grinding the dome or trying your luck with the trainer you can just choose the fire starter because the rest aren't starters
I am planning to use Arcanine in my heart gold version (playing as a male character) and in Soul Silver, I have used Lanturn before. I will be planning to use it again with the volt absorb ability. It comes in very handy when facing electric types
And vital throw has negative priority if i remember correctly. Not terrible for a low speed mon but I’d still rather go first sometimes 😊 Btw love your content always a joy to watch
Love the videos! I used lanturn not too long ago and it was fun! Any stadium videos planned? I was hoping with it releasing on nso that Id see some content around it, but I havent seen any yet from the ones I follow. Kinda sad, ive been having a blast playing it
@@MysticUmbreon woohoo! A buddy and I did some metronome battles, theres only 5 that have access to it in 1v1, and we filled the last spot with ditto. Even having to use the same team and only using metronome/transform, we still found our own strategies and it was really fun!
I used Shiny typhlosion(290 resets) Crobat Amphoros( later raikou) Herracross(machamp from goldenrod trade later) Shiny lugia(64 resets) Quagsire I know not related to the video just figure I share.
Heartgold and Soulsilver aren't really the best remakes. They are gen 4 games and gen 4 games are known for their slowness. Not to mention HGSS inherited flaws from gen 2. I would say ORAS are the best remakes to date.
HGSS get carried for having 2 regions and following pokemon, other than that the games have many flaws. Unmemorable towns, pretty bad story, limited pokemon to use, single use tms, reliance on grinding to get tms and evolution stones, many things are post game exclusive, etc
@@nep7939 this. HGSS still inherited old flaws from the originals. Still have Johto pokemon only caught in Kanto, gym leaders using a lot of gen 1 pokemon, etc.
honestly just don't understand why the pokemon games haven't been added to the Nintendo switch GBA service yet. I want to play emerald so bad wtf Nintendo
Not a big fan of Girafarig having two Electric-type moves, honestly. Giving it some Normal-STAB or something else like Energy Ball would be better for it. Same with Noctowl, but I'll excuse that one since we do need a Flyer for this team. Other than that, team looks solid!
I hope Noctowl gets Brave Bird if it comes to Scarlet and Violet much like Unfezant got it in sword and shield. I like Noctowl design and always ran a mixed set.
@@AdamDawson3 yeah My favorite isn't returning unfortunately Unfezant always liked design and then it finally got Brave Bird in gen 8 and it was actually good. Some others I wish was returning is Stoutland, Dubwool and Golisopod. At least Toucannon coming back tho that was a cool pokemon.
